If it was within a 120 mile range you'd be rushing over to buy it without a second thought. Seems like the one's I want are never close by.

      A lot of people miss this point. It is a key component of capitalism. The value of anything is what someone is willing to pay. There is no intrinsic monetary value beyond that. A Vincent is just an old outdated motorcycle unless there are enough people who very much want it and are willing to compete for it. This is the core fallacy of "investing" in collectable items. As generations die off the market for items they found valuable declines.

    It's surprising how much it varies per machine. Goldwings are almost lying on the side of the road, if you look for a 20 year old one they're like $1000 even though they're very expensive machines. Popular machines that are known to run for 200,000 miles without a problem, like the VStrom, even a 5 year old bike with 30,000 miles on it is still going for almost new prices (at least around me)

    If you have a bike with 10 year old tires, your bike needs new tires -- even if they look new (with tire whiskers) and only have 500 miles on them. The layers of rubber get brittle, like old rubber bands that just break when you stretch them.

    • @emilesp01
      @emilesp01 5 лет назад

      Offer it with the mods first, you may get a chance the buyer knows how much the mods are worth.
      However, most of the times the buyer is either stepping up from a smaller bike or may be from a different type of bike and won't know anything about the mods. If so, offer to remove all the mods and sell the bike as stock. Then sell everything else on eBay or any other website you can.

    • @TzeiEm

  • @ababbit7461
    @ababbit7461 5 лет назад

    Since a lot of buyers have to get a loan to buy a bike, Kelly Blue book and the NADA values are valid to a point. If you try to buy a bike that is priced $1,000 over high KBB and try to get a loan for that amount, the bank will laugh at you... So, KBB and NADA do have some relevance in buying and selling a bike when it comes to loans on that bike. Just had to toss that in Lemmy. Not trying to jump on you or anything. Not everyone can buy a bike on "sock drawer change."

    • @72chitwood
      @72chitwood 5 лет назад

      KBB has no impact on the Value that a lender will give you on a bike. NADA however does. You can borrow more than a Bike is worth, the amount would depend on your credit worthiness and the particular lender's guidelines. 115% to 125% of the Bikes value would not be out of the question with good credit.

Oh and the back seat has a nice burn into it from some friendly person who decided to lay their cigarette on my back bike seat. Cigarette was still laying on it when I came out from where I was at. I know this is irrelevant but just thought I'd express my anger here. This wasn't parked anywhere close to a venue or establishment, so someone purposely did it.
