It is based on real life storys he left her after knowing about his father he did not even knew if his father was alive so i guess when someones mind becames blank it takes time understand everything and besides he had said that he would try every single day to make it right and its true that he made her his second choice but for a son their father means a lot here y/n is understanding she understood his state so i think its normal because sometimes we need to face these problems
