FYI, Kadokawa has a market cap of 3.5ish billion. So a premium of a billion or so means 4.5-5 billion. Sony were prepping a 10 billion acquisition early this year that fell through. So they can certainly afford it. I would also say that if Xbox are allowed to make Bethesda games timed exclusives after a history of multiplatform, then I don’t see how it should be any different should PlayStation lock FromSoft games as timed exclusives
I’m not even a FromSoftware fan personally, but I am a PlayStation fan and I do see Sony’s potential acquisition of FromSoftware as being similar to Microsoft’s buyout of Bethesda. Xbox + Bethesda have always had a very close relationship *(pre-merger)* and I was totally fine with BGS games going fully exclusive to the platform. It made sense and was a content power play that Xbox desperately needed before Microsoft backed out of doing that because they need as much revenue as possible generated by the Xbox brand considering how much it has shrunken. PlayStation is different. They don’t need Xbox. Granted, I think Sony will still allow FromSoftware to be a multiplatform developer with some stipulations, as you said, “timed exclusives”. However, I could see potential new IPs and DEFINITELY sequels to old IPs *(i.e. Bloodborne & Demon’s Souls)* remaining fully console exclusive to PlayStation and coming to PC either day and date or 6-12 months later.
@@DVRKSTXR yea, noway Sony is putting first party studios games on Xbox prob not ever if they own from software, but PC for sure for sure and PC is Xbox right? I mean to hear them tell it everything is, so that's just how it would be, I don't do fromsoft either but I don't see this being doom of all gaming as one article I read lmao, fromsoft has mostly been ps anyway so shouldn't be huge surprise, guess since elden ring shook the world that's why folks are worried
I think the FromSoft situation's particularly interesting because earlier this year, FromSoft themselves said that Sony and Tencent increased their shares in Kadokawa to provide sufficient enough funds, for the studio to explore self-publishing, and they even bought back the IP rights for Elden Ring from Bandai Namco to presumably prepare for such a transition. I'm wondering now that should this take place, if whether Sony is going to just inherit those responsibilities and do a full integration of FromSoft into first-party or if they'll be held, not quite like Bungie, but more like Bethesda in relation to Microsoft where they operate as an entity, much closer to SIE, but still publishing games by themselves and not through Sony like with Bloodborne and Demon's Souls. I realize gaming absolutely did not motivate this acquisition for sure and it's likely all about Kadokawa's pull on manga/anime which Sony controls a sizable amount of through their own divisions, but recent moves made by FromSoft I imagine would have to be honored in a sense because Sony helped supply them those funds by investing in them
Kadokawa/FromSoft are looking to RAISE their value prior to sale of the company! They must be cashing in all of the favors they have among gaming press/influencers - that's how they got this nomination
@@IBelieveInTheGYAT I guess it depends on how quickly those copies sell and at what price. I would imagine that selling 1 million copies would be a failure though when you include paying the various retailers and what not.
@@IBelieveInTheGYAT At $70 a copy, for a 3rd party it almost always is If you sell 1mil copies of a 1st party exclusive, its 70 mil. 3rd party with losing that 30% cut makes 49mil Steam and EPIC complicate things because EPIC takes less upfront and Steam has tiers that give the publisher more money, the more it sells But in general you can consider it a failure
@imo098765 tell the ponies this who believe to this day that the whole 70 dollars you pay goes to the developer. It's even worse when marvel takes a cut from game sales which means the 70 dollar for Spiderman can effectively be 35 dollars to the developer.
Gotta say, listening to the Dukes go back and forth on their time with Avowed, it's so pure and wonderful the way they bounce off each other. When Cog interrupts Matty, I'm all ears and they vibe so well with each other... juxtaposed with whenever Jaffe is on Constellation and won't stop interrupting everybody every 30 seconds. These 2 better keep podcasting together until one, or both, become dementia ridden
FromSoftware has a way stronger relationship with Sony than Nintendo, imo. Their first franchise was ps1 exclusive. Edit: Also, i think you are referring to Bandai Namco, not FromSoftware. FromSoftware has never made any exclusives for Nintendo from what i know of.
I’m unsure what relationship they really have with Nintendo. They had Lost Kingdoms on GameCube but they even did a MS exclusive once. Maybe there are a few visual novels on DS.
Just because home is where the heart is, doesn't mean we should redefine the homeowner's idea of what a house is. It lends itself to confusion and a lack of confidence for the consumer to invest, especially when the leading competitor isn't pretending a park bench is a house.
100% agree. DLC has no buisness being on a Game Of The Year award list. Make a new category. The addition of this DLC to the list is a huge middle finger to other original games released this year. I'm liking the Game Awards less and less.
Kadokawa was the one wanting to be acquired. They reached out to Sony because they were afraid of a hostile takeover from Kakao or Tencent. Also internally, the company is in dire straits.
17:21 not sure how true, but Alanah Pearce, who has been on the panel before said that Geoff doesn’t pick what is nominated. And they send out basically a form of what they think deserves to be there to media outlets/people. I don’t have first hand experience, so take it with a grain of salt, but she has a good video on it from last year where she tells you what her experience was like as a judge.
Also Matty’s own friend SkillUp said the process is as lenient as him being able to put The Outer Wilds in every category for the past few years… and they keep bringing him back for the panel, so. I wouldn’t be so quick to talk shit about “journalists” as if they’re a monolith.
To be clear, I was speaking about the structure of the show itself and not what's up for vote. Geoff has made it clear multiple times that he isn't involved in that sort of stuff.
I just don't think Play Anywhere is the future of gaming. Maybe in East Asia where you're on a train for 3 hours a day and in a cubicle for 12 hours, but in the West, people will always prefer to play games in their home, on a dedicated screen, in a dedicated space for it.
Why does Cog say he is surprised about Black Myth Wukongs inclusion because its from China? Keeley happily takes Tencent money for ads all over the game awards. He has no issue with China at all.
It would be dumb to not include a game just because it was made in China. People in this community tend to conflate the CCP with normal ass Chinese people way too often. Even Colin at times lol.
Always weird to me ppl that hate on the Game Awards but then don't even cover the other award shows. Golden Joysticks just happened. FF Rebirth got 4 awards, Helldivers got 3 including Critic's Choice, Astrobot got 2, & Black Myth got 2 including GOTY.
Because that was also weird. The best console game is a game that is carried by PC till this day. We couldnt play it on launch waiting in queues The devs actively made the game less fun with patches
I’m convinced Sony fans have no life after reading all the hate comments over the last year from people who have never had an Xbox and never intended to lol
The bad and annoying PS fans, AKA Ponies... They think hating on Xbox is the same or better than actually just rooting for PlayStation. They some how don't realize just how big of haters they are, further more, will never look at all the faults and huge L's Sony has been taking this gen. They love talkin shit on Xbox, saying the grass is over grown... while right behind them, their house is straight up on fire!
I said this earlier already but everything about this ad campaign appears to repeat the exact mistake Microsoft made when messaging Xbox One early on. They clearly see some sort of timeline that culminates in a more ubiquitous, platform-agnostic outcome, but they're attempting to aggressively push towards that end goal and are courting an audience as particularly stubborn as gamers, trying to make them accept the transition immediately. This all happened already with stuff like Xbox One being always-online, or requiring authentication for game discs like licenses in PC gaming. You can't make these kinds of immediate swings and expect everyone around you to just capitulate to this kind of initiative because especially with gamers, if they see that they are being de-prioritized in the chase for some long-term fulfilment, they'll simply just move to a platform that provides the experience they're familiar with, which is why last-gen most of the 360's audience switched to PS4 and Xbox even ended up in this predicament to begin with. I don't think this is going to go the way Microsoft intends, and should such a transition takes place, I don't think they'll be looked back upon as fondly despite being the first one to make that jump.
The big issue I see is they seemingly still want to say their hardware is important. They want to be a third party publisher but still want to make hardware or something.
Nah. This is nothing like the Xbox One. Is a mistake of it's own? Maybe, we'll see. The actual mistakes however are very different. Xbox One launch was about moving away from developing games entirely, and they're clearly doing the opposite of that now. I don't think Xbox really have much choice but to diversify their audience at this point, whereas their mistakes in the Xbox One generation were entirely self inflicted.
@@alexlyster3459 if they made quality AAA games, most of the time, then they would have been releasing heavy hitters every quarter for a while now, and gamepass would have twice as many subs by now... Why isn't that the case? We all play videogames because we like videogames. We prefer to play great games over bad games, clearly. Gamepass offers all of the brands titles for peanuts...and it still isn't growing anywhere near where it should be...why is that? It's about the games. Period. They aren't meeting the expectations of the customer, not just that, they aren't meeting the expectations of people who believe they are getting them for free.... The videogame community seems to prefer to pay for good games, then play lesser games for "free" So again, I ask, why is Xbox in this position, and Nintendo and Sony are not? 1 of the 3 platform holders is having these problems, the other 2 are thriving running their business the same way they always have...
and with everything you said Xbox One was nearly 100% correct besides sharing games Always Online, you mean like the biggest games on consoles are. GT7 is a dead game offline. CoD SP is connected to servers etc. Your console is a multimedia box, oh like how Netflix, Hulu, Anime streaming, RUclips. Game sharing is allowed but 80-90% of sales are digital which are harder to share Kinect was AR gaming which is today more important with VR that needs cameras, ironically PSVR2 could use for tracking Xbox One was correct, but they put the frog in boiling water
Pretty much, this is their first aggressive move towards marketing the idea of Xbox being everywhere with no barriers as long as you are subscribed to GamePass. The Console was what got them to market but all along this was their ultimate goal in the end. Sarah Bond’s next gen tease is confusing tbh because this marketing campaign goes against the need for a console. Options maybe?
@@OcarinaHero93 Well 30 million people that are invested into the console is no small thing. Sure it's substantially behind PS5 but that's still a meaningful enough of people, that can be worth making a console for. They want to reach people from every possible vector, and console is certainly one of those.
@@MamoMark The problem is if this campaign's messaging around the lack of necessity for hardware is that resonant with the audience they're targeting, then it could also just as easily translate to even lower sales for a prospective future console. Series X/S are already likely to end their gen well behind Xbox One's total cumulative sales worldwide, and it's already assumed the next console(s) will post even lower numbers than that. At some point it's going to get to a point where it's diminishing returns, and Microsoft might even just not see it as worth the years of investment and R&D required to make hardware in-house. Unlike SEGA, who basically had no choice but to go third-party because of how deep in the red they were financially after a string of failures, MS could exit the console market at any time and be no worse for wear. They can seriously just drop Xbox hardware if it doesn't make them anywhere as much money compared to just publishing games. And it's looking likely it'll get to that point of redundancy at the rate things have accelerated
Yeah all the way back since the Xbox one gen. How dumb do you have to be. Phil is putting all your games on pc since 2016. Now he is putting your games on ps and Nintendo lol. 😂 they are spending money advertising that every thing besides the Xbox console is an Xbox lol. Xbox get the worst versions of games. There games even play better on pc and ps. You’re a fool if you are still wasting money on Xbox
Nice! I've been into Obstacle Running since 2012 and ramping up the distance throughout the years. And also picked up "just" Running along the way. Done a bunch of half marathons, but now building up to 30K (hit it once so far :O), for my first full marathon in March. I did do a 42K Obstacle Run, which had a cut off time of 7,5 hours, barely made it haha. And Spartan Trifecta Weekends with 2 days of OCR back to back, but 4-days in a row sounds wild haha! I do have 3 full marathons planned for next year :P. And make it an annual thing. As for Matty (if you read this..). Not sure about the severity of your joint pains... but I have a lower back hernia myself since age 18 (almost 40 now). And with slowly building up the distance, I really put those km's in my bones and have little to no issues with long distance running. I had major knee pains with my first 10K (too fast build up), and "restarted" training (and proper breathing) and no real issues ever since. Also, the combination with strength training really helps to prevent injuries! Keep at it!
Let's not even begin to talk about the modding and emulation scene this year. 🔥🔥🔥 In the best way! AI Skyrim mods?! R36S getting love? Cyberpunk full support?! Anyway, the GOTY discussion was great guys! I can say y'all always bring the love when the yearly highlights come around.
Todd Howard’s attitude is endemic of corporate double speak in gaming. He knows damn well Starfield isn’t up to snuff. This passive aggressive response is typical. “We are still learning” is total crap. Bethesda have been resting on their laurels and have gotten lazy. Simple as that. “Making a game is hard”. Sure. It is I agree. And so is constantly being sold a load of bullshit at full price and then being fobbed off when gamers rightfully complain.
@LordCognito 2:37:23 If you want to talk business sense… Give it the Starfield treatment. Make it day and date console + PC. Just don’t release it on the other console.
Microsoft either needs to buy steam or give up on being anything more than a publisher. They lost the console game to Sony, and people aren't giving up their potentially hundreds of games to migrate to a different system. The only way they can catch up is by buying steam and try to bring PC gaming to the living room in an easy manner, and make the Xbox a easy to use gaming PC
Microsoft will have a much easier time buying Nintendo than buying Valve. Valve will not ever let Microsoft or any other company touch them let alone buy them.
So should burger king and Wendy's become suppliers to McDonald's because they are not number 1. This argument is so God damn dumb and only happens in the console space.
I have three girls, the two older ones are well on their way to becoming gamers. Honestly there are a lot of family friendly titles on gamepass which is nice.
Literally nothing surprising about the Kunitsu-Gami news at all, many of us already called this when the game came out. Game Pass + Digital only and the game is 50 fucking dollars. A lack of marketing has nothing to do with it, there is absolutely 0 incentive to buy a digital only game (especially one with that high a price) when it's on a sub service. You can still get people to buy physical copies, but these publishers fail to learn their lesson and so the game flops. People are speaking with their wallets, time to wake up. Capcom especially is only making it harder on themselves by going on the record saying that their strategy is to do insanely deep ($5 to $10) sales when a game reaches a certain age. So I will just wait until then. It's not like I am in some situation where I have nothing to play and desperately need it. Like many people I have an absurd backlog. I only buy new games if I want to support the product (even if I can't play it immediately) but a $50 digital game is def not a thing I am gonna support, even from my favorite developer.
I have ro say something to you Matty. Anime is available on every streaming service whether it's in Sony's library or not. There's a ton of it. The other thing is the "censorship" bit. DMC5 was all on Capcom, which the Xbox versions got hit the same way and Stram got hit slightly less. Now on average Playstation does have less censorship actions compared to Xbox and Nintendo.
its available now But Crunchyroll, Funimation bought by SONY then ANIPLEX is theirs. Now add another in Kadokawa. This isnt like buying a publisher its like buying a console manufacturer, imagine Nintendo buying XBOX Besides Toei stuff, most things are going to be under them. Remember Daredevil and Punisher series on Netflix, then Disney went naaah
Its available "now" What if SONY goes, all Aniplex and Kadokawa anime is now only on our streaming services. Well thats a problem isnt By getting Kadokawa including libraries of older anime people would recommend to watch. The more mainstream Re Zero, Oshi No Ko, Fate, Made In Abyss, Konosuba, Overlord, Shield Hero, Date A Live, Mushoku Tensei Sword art online and many other smaller but still big ones Aniplex Frieren, FMA, Gintama, Bleach, Demon Slayer, Dandadan, Kaguya-sama, Naruto Shippuden etc Most major anime besides a few will be kept away from all other streaming services because they are produced by SONY
@imo098765 what are you going on about? Sony can't randomly break contract deals. You do know some of those deals are with Netflix, right? The irony of that anyways is that Sony almost exclusively deals with Netflix on that their Streaming content. What are you taking about produced by Sony? Sony has Crunchyroll and Netflix. If there is an impact that then Cartoon Network being killed off is a factor especially when Aniplex usually had a show or two on rotation on Toonami. At the same time Kadokawa went to Sony not the other way around and both are big Japanese games that happen to also be in the Anime scene.
If you want a recent example of Sony/PS censorship - the artbook included in the Tsukihime collector's edition (published by Aniplex) has a censored artwork in the PS4 version only. Funny enough the Switch version is unaltered. Even though I think FromSoft could be a good fit for Playstation and result in interesting new stuff (Sony might help them finally make an overdue switch to a new engine for example) the stranglehold Sony would have over anime/manga/lightnovels/VNs/etc paired with their censorship history aren't a price I'd be willing to pay. Not even for a Bloodborne 2.
@@linkinparkblink182ro afaik Type Moon isn't owned by Sony. They're just the publisher via Aniplex. (Tsukihime is a visual novel) My guess is that there are censorship guidelines specifically for Anime/Manga related media on Playstation, since Stellar Blade gets away with quite a lot.
Let's be real dragon age veil guard got a score boost because it was the LGBTQ darling. The game would have got sixes due to writing if everybody wasn't busy patting it on the back for how inclusive it was

1. Geoff didn't change anything. The rules have always allowed for DLC to be nominated for GOTY. The judging panel just never nominated one. 2. Geoff and The Game Awards have no say in the nominations or winners.
So Blood and Wine has an 92 in 2016. Everyone Loved it and was nominated for best RPG. Won over Dark Souls 3. But was never nominated for GOTY. Dark Souls 3 was nominated for GOTY. So Blood and Wine was Not allowed for GOTY
Sony would absolutely make their games exclusive if they aquire From. At least console exclusive. They've become more friendly to PC in recent years, so I'm sure they will come to PC as well at some point. This purchase makes a ton of sense imo.
Xbox"s future is live service gaming! Phil Spencer is Don Mattrick 2.0, he's here to smile &: play nice while Xbox transition into an online only future.
I think this is an Xbox is a huge mistake they basically tell us they are third party now. On sony buying Kadokawa id rather it not happen but id rather Sony than Tencent.
Starfield is unique because the foundation for the game is in place to fix the problem so you point out that need to be fixed. It literally would require work to the foundation. Do you want better loot that doesn’t mean you just go in and make better drops you have to change the entire loot system. First, you have to create the ability for better loot to be available not just shoot shoot gun but you have to put those mechanics for new types of weapons into the game. New features for weapons into the game then you still have to build the loot that you want to be dropped. Do you see first you have to tinker with the foundation and then still make more adjustments. That takes a significant amount of time. The game had a problem at the start and they had to fix that the first year was devoted to fixing those problems and the first expansion, the loot upgrade you want which will make the game much better that’s coming, but you’re just gonna have to wait. Now story the game itself has a good story that doesn’t need to be touched. You can argue you might not have liked it or it might not have been the best story they’ve created. It was one of the best stories they’ve ever made. Expansion not so good story not so good mechanics not one of the best expansions ever it’s just gonna be that, it’ll be a 7.0 expansion wait until the next one and see what you get.
How the hell can yall (especially cog) act like this is bad and creating a monopoly, when yall supported (ESPECIALLY COG) the giant buyouts of Activision and all them other companies Microsft bought. Lord Acquisition right?? Good when Microsft creates a monopoly, bad when Sony does? Come on dude... Now yall are REEEALLY sounding like biased xbox fanboys 😮
Just to be clear, Phantom Liberty was in the running last year-Geoff made that clear-but it didn't get enough votes. I think the "making an exception" comes from the voters, not him.
I think saying everything is going as far as Xbox’s games to other platforms as an influencer in the Xbox space is wrong and it sends the wrong message to the consumer base. They honestly haven’t said or done anything differently than “legacy titles and case by case.”
Streaming isnt a replacement for native gaming. Still, to this day, i guarantee you, that the VAST majority of people playing games, do not have internet capable of giving them an adequate experience. All these things that "are xboxs" are fukn not! Your customers arent stupid. They have absolutely tried streaming, and immediately stopped, because its awful. Microsoft used to step on all the rakes, now they fill the yard with rakes on purpose, and walk around blindfolded... This is dumb. This might be the worst thing they have ever said to their consumers...and Microsoft have been telling these same people to not buy their hardware or software for years! Looking at it any other way is cope. Plain and simple. 🤷
Microsoft promote gamepass so their users don't have to buy their games, the next logical step for them is to promote not buying their consoles so this absolutely makes sense lol

Sony wouldn’t have anything close to an Anime monopoly if they bought Kadokawa. According to analysts Anime is a $31.3 billion industry globally in 2024. Yet Sony’s whole Pictures division, of which Anime is only a part as are Tv and movies, only made around $10 billion. Reports say Crunchyroll is about a third of that’s revenue, around $3.6 billion. They likely have around 10 - 15% market share.
I’ve been primarily an “Xbox” guy for over the last 20 years. I’ve purchased nine Xbox’s over those years. Never again. Today I traded in my series x and ps5 for a ps5 pro. I hate this idea of just getting used to being screwed over by Microsoft. Nah, I found out about it in February and I still feel just as alienated now as I did then. I’m not just going to get used to the idea of Xbox betraying their console base because x amount of time has passed. If anything, I held out a smidgen of hope that they might walk it back. But nope. So F Xbox and F the people who have fallen in line who expect us to just get over it. If I want to play Xbox games in the future, I’ll get a month or two of pc Gamepass and play them all within that timeframe.
They've done like one-offs on the GameCube and the DS but yeah as far as FromSoft as we know them you could argue they had a very similar relationship to Sony from the beginning as Bethesda did with Microsoft early on especially on consoles
That acquisition for Sony it isn’t good. It isn’t bad. Sure you get a great developer for your souls like games but all that other stuff you guys mentioned it doesn’t make a lot of money. Anime I cannot speak to Octopath traveler to yeah it didn’t make money like they thought it would. Sad to say but true you can lean into the people who make great RPG, but the problem is and will continue to be people are not buying those games and it cost more than ever to make them. Anytime you go out there and make one of those games you’re hoping to break even. Now it fortifies your platform as the go to place for RPG’s, but wait a minute that’s your reputation right now what’s the point of this purchase? What do you gain from it? If you are already where people come to play these games the bigger issue for Sony and it’s the one not many people are talking about is how are they actually going to pay for this acquisition? Sony makes a lot of money each year, but they are not sitting on a lot of cash. Microsoft had money in the bank. They literally went white debit card and withdrew the funds. Sony does not have that option where they can say we got the money. Here’s the cash. They are a profitable company, but on a scale of one to 10 of profitability there beneath 5.0 I don’t say that I’m just talking about how much money they make in profits based on how much money they put out there in investment they are in industry where it’s not growing fast and the cost to make something in that industry is going through the roof. So how does Sony make this purchase make sense because right now even if you don’t make this purchase, you get all the benefits you make this purchase what do you do. How do you make this a plus.
I'm concerned about the discovery of Avowed having pronouns. Obsidian has insanely good writers, but if Microsoft's bullshit ESG and DEI policies have infected their game it worries me. I refuse to have this modern day bullshit in a fantasy world, it just kills the immersion. I used to let it slide with minor things like pronouns, but after seeing Veilguard ESG/DEI has crossed a line for me where I won't tolerate it in the slightest anymore.
Why does a hot take have to be due to console fanboyism? Maybe he just liked one game more than another? He really likes the Persona series so it's not that far fetched that he'd prefer it over Rebirth.
It was an absolutely wild take by Maddie but to be fair she has a history of preferring Persona to Final Fantasy. But to say that metaphor is BETTER was nuts.
You guys show your own ass when you say shit like this, it’s what we call “projection”. Maybe, just maybe he has a different opinion than you and many others, we are not a monolith as gamers.
1:00:06 What is 'Assassin's Creed Unity'? What does that tell us? Atelier Ryza is about a girl named *Ryza,* who is *an alchemist* and therefore has *an atelier.* It's part of the Atelier series alongside Atelier Sophie, Atelier Firis, Atelier Ayesha, Atelier Rorona, which are about alchemists named Sophie, Firis, Ayesha, and Rorona respectively. The subtitle 'Ever Darkness and the Secret Hideout' is tacked on because it's part of an 'Atelier Ryza' trilogy. In the story there's an everlasting darkness and a secret hideout. What is Star Wars: the Phantom Menace? What phantom menace? What star wars?
tbh, shattered space is bad because it is just more starfield. mainly because Starfield is just Bethesda not giving their A game. It's comparable to The Outer Worlds being Obsidian not giving their A game as well because I don't go to that game much, mainly because the writing just isn't impactful enough.
21:41 an “original idea”………..you literally list a sequel and a remake(sonic) in your example, the actual list has a fucking remake on it as well, a butchered remake that’s not even half the original game at that. 24:55 dude, Veilguard clearly paid for those scores, come on now you know this.
The Xbox console is not a growth space not consoles period. PS5 has probably twice the sales and The Switch might challenge the PS2 as the best selling console ever. Its your hardware that isn't delivering not the console space as a whole. Also XCloud is ass. The performance is inconsistent and the image quality sucks.
Outside of the fringe extremist xbox fanboys i dont really see anyone confused with the direction of xbox. Theyre going 3rd party as a major publisher with a sub service. Its been obvious for years.

You need to stop acting as if people are afraid that Xbox consoles will disappear soon-that’s something nobody seriously believes. What people are concerned about is that now, with the console no longer being the main focus and games going to competitors, the quality of the console hardware and the console experience might decline.
Xbox is going to transition to a digital platform and away from hardware to reach more people. The series X has only sold 8 million units, that's Wii U levels bad. Except it's worse because Xbox doesn't have franchises that make people wanna buy one, where as Nintendo could trot out their star series and recover. Xbox would already be dead if not for the series S, but that's a double edged sword because series S sales are people who wanna play cod and sports games, they don't drive serious software sales. The only way Microsoft could stay in hardware is if they bought steam and rebrand it Xbox. Then they could make Steam the new Xbox live marketplace on a next gen system and allow PC games on the system

I would also say that if Xbox are allowed to make Bethesda games timed exclusives after a history of multiplatform, then I don’t see how it should be any different should PlayStation lock FromSoft games as timed exclusives
Fromsoft games will become ps exclusive prob not time when Sony owns em they don't do first party on Xbox as such like them
I’m not even a FromSoftware fan personally, but I am a PlayStation fan and I do see Sony’s potential acquisition of FromSoftware as being similar to Microsoft’s buyout of Bethesda.
Break even = 0% ROI, not 100% ROI. ROI is a calculation done net of expenses. Sorry to nitpick, but had to say it
Yep. The ROI formula is: ( profit minus cost ) / cost.
So 1 million copies on a 50 million dollar budget is a failure?
@@IBelieveInTheGYAT I guess it depends on how quickly those copies sell and at what price. I would imagine that selling 1 million copies would be a failure though when you include paying the various retailers and what not.
@@IBelieveInTheGYAT At $70 a copy, for a 3rd party it almost always is
If you sell 1mil copies of a 1st party exclusive, its 70 mil. 3rd party with losing that 30% cut makes 49mil
Steam and EPIC complicate things because EPIC takes less upfront and Steam has tiers that give the publisher more money, the more it sells
But in general you can consider it a failure
@imo098765 tell the ponies this who believe to this day that the whole 70 dollars you pay goes to the developer. It's even worse when marvel takes a cut from game sales which means the 70 dollar for Spiderman can effectively be 35 dollars to the developer.
Gotta say, listening to the Dukes go back and forth on their time with Avowed, it's so pure and wonderful the way they bounce off each other.
The fan base can’t even rally to buy Astro bot😂
I’m unsure what relationship they really have with Nintendo. They had Lost Kingdoms on GameCube but they even did a MS exclusive once. Maybe there are a few visual novels on DS.

100% agree. DLC has no buisness being on a Game Of The Year award list. Make a new category. The addition of this DLC to the list is a huge middle finger to other original games released this year. I'm liking the Game Awards less and less.
Exactly. BMW should win and DLC should be excluded
Kadokawa was the one wanting to be acquired. They reached out to Sony because they were afraid of a hostile takeover from Kakao or Tencent. Also internally, the company is in dire straits.
I'd rather take Sony than Tencent. I have no idea about kakao
He has already said Journalists basically pick it.
That’s like a deluxe album winning 2 Grammys a year later
I just don't think Play Anywhere is the future of gaming. Maybe in East Asia where you're on a train for 3 hours a day and in a cubicle for 12 hours, but in the West, people will always prefer to play games in their home, on a dedicated screen, in a dedicated space for it.

Why does Cog say he is surprised about Black Myth Wukongs inclusion because its from China? Keeley happily takes Tencent money for ads all over the game awards. He has no issue with China at all.
it being from China should not matter
Wukong is gonna win
I'll admit I'm suprised journalists let it be on the list.
It would be dumb to not include a game just because it was made in China. People in this community tend to conflate the CCP with normal ass Chinese people way too often. Even Colin at times lol.
It’s “game of the year” nominee. Why can’t people wrap their head around the fact it’s a about the game and nothing else
I get why Geoff does what he does. An actual awards show would be boring that's why he has musical performances and announcments.
Because that was also weird. The best console game is a game that is carried by PC till this day. We couldnt play it on launch waiting in queues
The devs actively made the game less fun with patches
I’m convinced Sony fans have no life after reading all the hate comments over the last year from people who have never had an Xbox and never intended to lol
The bad and annoying PS fans, AKA Ponies... They think hating on Xbox is the same or better than actually just rooting for PlayStation. They some how don't realize just how big of haters they are, further more, will never look at all the faults and huge L's Sony has been taking this gen.
They love talkin shit on Xbox, saying the grass is over grown... while right behind them, their house is straight up on fire!
PlayStation podcast... Only talks about Xbox. Xbox bad, durr
The videogame community seems to prefer to pay for good games, then play lesser games for "free"
So again, I ask, why is Xbox in this position, and Nintendo and Sony are not?
1 of the 3 platform holders is having these problems, the other 2 are thriving running their business the same way they always have...
and with everything you said Xbox One was nearly 100% correct besides sharing games
Always Online, you mean like the biggest games on consoles are. GT7 is a dead game offline. CoD SP is connected to servers etc.
Your console is a multimedia box, oh like how Netflix, Hulu, Anime streaming, RUclips.

So, if we already bought an Xbox, I guess we wasted $500? That's the message, right?
That would only make sense if you bought it only to stream games from the cloud using Game Pass.
S/o distance runners! Currently training for a 4-day 48.6 mile race weekend in January
Keep at it!

Kunitsu-gami always had an uphill battle but expecting alot when it's on gamepass is double lol.
I have ro say something to you Matty. Anime is available on every streaming service whether it's in Sony's library or not. There's a ton of it.
The other thing is the "censorship" bit. DMC5 was all on Capcom, which the Xbox versions got hit the same way and Stram got hit slightly less. Now on average Playstation does have less censorship actions compared to Xbox and Nintendo.
its available now
But Crunchyroll, Funimation bought by SONY then ANIPLEX is theirs. Now add another in Kadokawa.
This isnt like buying a publisher its like buying a console manufacturer, imagine Nintendo buying XBOX
Besides Toei stuff, most things are going to be under them. Remember Daredevil and Punisher series on Netflix, then Disney went naaah
Its available "now"
What if SONY goes, all Aniplex and Kadokawa anime is now only on our streaming services. Well thats a problem isnt
By getting Kadokawa including libraries of older anime people would recommend to watch. The more mainstream
Re Zero, Oshi No Ko, Fate, Made In Abyss, Konosuba, Overlord, Shield Hero, Date A Live, Mushoku Tensei Sword art online and many other smaller but still big ones
Aniplex
Frieren, FMA, Gintama, Bleach, Demon Slayer, Dandadan, Kaguya-sama, Naruto Shippuden etc
Most major anime besides a few will be kept away from all other streaming services because they are produced by SONY
Do they censor the anime stuff they own now?
@@linkinparkblink182ro afaik Type Moon isn't owned by Sony. They're just the publisher via Aniplex. (Tsukihime is a visual novel)
My guess is that there are censorship guidelines specifically for Anime/Manga related media on Playstation, since Stellar Blade gets away with quite a lot.

To be honest since everything is an Xbox now you will get all the same stuff the only difference is you have to let go of the previous stuff
20 years is a long time supporting an anti-consumer brand that always sucked at making consumer products. Smart ppl never bought an Xbox.
@ indeed
@@east00 For a moment there I thought you were talking about Playstation or Nintendo
@@imo098765 lol nah. Msoft is one of the worst, most heinous companies to ever exist.
Which From Soft games are on Nitendo besides Dark Souls Remastered? Bandai Namco owns that IP anyway.
They've done like one-offs on the GameCube and the DS but yeah as far as FromSoft as we know them you could argue they had a very similar relationship to Sony from the beginning as Bethesda did with Microsoft early on especially on consoles
Did S Fish say Matty is a physical lover?
I dont think Metaphor should win. The last act falls hard and I think for a goty it needs to do great all around but we shall see
I'm concerned about the discovery of Avowed having pronouns.
Imagine if From started using the Decima engine for their games.
Metaphor way better than FF7 Rebirth? That's a bold opinion Matty 😂 if FF7 Rebirth was on Xbox I'm sure you'd have a different opinion.
I agree with Matty. Wasn't overly impressed with FF7 Rebirth
Rebirth did not hit for me at all. I don’t like the cast. I much more enjoyed the cast of FF16 way more. Clive over Cloud any day
You guys show your own ass when you say shit like this, it’s what we call “projection”.
Concord
tbh, shattered space is bad because it is just more starfield. mainly because Starfield is just Bethesda not giving their A game. It's comparable to The Outer Worlds being Obsidian not giving their A game as well because I don't go to that game much, mainly because the writing just isn't impactful enough.
what is that bs he is talking about kunitsu gami? Its not turn based and its nothing original. Its just a simplified tower defense.
Yeah I wasn't impressed with it.
I stopped taking TGA seriously after they snubbed Hogwart's Legacy
2024 flight sim is great for my system its got quirks but itll get fixed
16:31 HellDivers?????
21:41 an “original idea”………..you literally list a sequel and a remake(sonic) in your example, the actual list has a fucking remake on it as well, a butchered remake that’s not even half the original game at that.
24:55 dude, Veilguard clearly paid for those scores, come on now you know this.
I hope the Kadokawa deal goes through simply because both of you were championing Bethesda and Activision Blizzard deals.
Hypocrites 🙃
This is an Xbox opinion
The Xbox console is not a growth space not consoles period. PS5 has probably twice the sales and The Switch might challenge the PS2 as the best selling console ever. Its your hardware that isn't delivering not the console space as a whole.
Also XCloud is ass. The performance is inconsistent and the image quality sucks.
Remakes and dlc doesn't deserve to he in game of the year. Doesnt matter how good it is. A remake is still from an old game. And dlc isnt a game
#thisisadd 😂😂
1:19:45 - matty speaking facts. XP distribution in team-based rpgs has needed rebalancing for so long. How have devs not uniformly improved this???
Outside of the fringe extremist xbox fanboys i dont really see anyone confused with the direction of xbox. Theyre going 3rd party as a major publisher with a sub service. Its been obvious for years.
Yeah when they went heavy on gamepass some of us were already noticing they were de prioritizing hardware and game sales.
Maybe their DEI hires are causing a worse game because everyone is walking on egg shells at Bethesda instead of making a better game.
Will Shen already talked about issues, this time its not a DEI thing go watch the video from VGC and you'll find out why its turned out the way it is now.
DEI in your racist brain 24/7. You are so insecure.
@@StarTraffic-z1o As someone who would benefit from DEI hiring. DEI hiring is rubbish
You hire the best person, not a person to fill the quota
Even if that one person is only 5-10% worse, you do that for 20 people. You are not 100-200% worse, you've lost 2 developers worth of work. But now you doing that across multiple studios of hundreds
it quickly adds up, not to mention office dynamics that could slow things down because you cant say things because feelings
Hey guys it’s KZEikon here just wanted to let you know it’s pronounced K-Z-Eikon(icon) thanks for reading my comment
I'm so done with Xbox smh
