My father and I were CBers in the 70s. I had this 45 back then. I loved the end of the song as it fades out. "This here's Rubber Duck on the side. We gone bye-bye! " Thanks, dad.
40 years ago the song hit #1 on both Billboard's Hot 100 and Hot Country Tracks charts. This song crystallized the truckers' CB jargon into the minds of everyone. We're gonna roll this truckin' convoy cross the U.S.A. Fabulous song.
This is such a classic and it has been done so many times it is great to go back and listen to how it REALLY was, man I knew I remembered that correctly I knew it I knew it I knew it!!!!
I remember leading a convoy of about 10 trucks for about 30 miles on I-40 East through Tennessee and North Carolina. Made sure to cue this song up for the occasion. About the only time we follow each other like that nowadays is if there’s a bunch of company trucks that can’t pull a hill.
This movie still ranks as my favorite trucker movie! Right up there with the original "Smokey and The Bandit," Chuck Norris' "Breaker, Breaker," and the TV series "Movin' On."
If you recognize the publisher credit, and the name Chip Davis, you get a high five. American Gramophone is now Chip's music label, notable for the Mannheim Steamroller albums. This was also the beinning of the end for the MGM label, which would later roll its' catalogue and artists over into Polydor. Gloria Gaynor almost fell through the cracks in this process; originally her album was an MGM imprint, but the single "I Will Survive" ...well, survived.
+charlton myers They continued to used the MGM name on the label right up until the late 1970's and early 1980's when it was part of Polydor. I don't have any info about the label after this one.
#1 in early 1976. Good song, ignored by radio stations today.
Rebel Radio
Geez I wonder why
@oldiesmusiv76 I’ve heard it on classic country stations

The winter of 1975-1976..remember it well. This peaked at # 1 the week ending January 10, 1976 for 1 week. Virtually unheard on the radio today.

I can picture Peter Quill playing this on his walkman leading a fleet of ships in the next Guardians of the Galaxy.
Cruisin' the streets of Los Santos as this song plays, while running from the cops...good times :)
I got this 45 today, and it’s the same promo copy rather than a stock copy. The stock copy was on a blue and gold label.

Look for a record entitled “Classified” by CW McCall . A great shaggy dog story
Convoy was a film in 1978
Does he mispronounce Illinois on purpose? My dad was a trucker and he loved this song. RIP dad, 1939-1980.
Illinois can be pronounced this way. CW was/is not wrong in pronouncing it this way.
dont get me wrong, this is a great song but i hate how people ignore his other masterpieces like 4 wheel drive, black bear road, and wolf crick pass.
