A year ago I found a lil infant Norway rat outside my old job shivering in the fetal position from cold. The woman who pointed him out to me wanted me to "kick him around the corner so people didn't have to see him"! 😱😭 I was like- no, ma'am! He was too young to eat solid foods so I fed him thickened vegan protein and greens mix off a paintbrush for two weeks and kept him in my sweater until I found him a few buddies cause ratties Need friends or they get depressed. He's now my heart rat and I 100 percent Know the fae sent my lil Treasure Nugget to me. He's been the most healing companion I've ever known and I'm so grateful. 💜🐀💜 Just felt like sharing cause I adore him. 🥰

I’ve always been fascinated and drawn to wolves. How they are misunderstood and magnificent and how the way they live is so close to balancing the physical and spiritual ecosystem. I’ve always had figurines of them and Oh gods ! How much I adore Princess Mononoke !!
I have a connection with the monarch butterflies. My yard is practically loaded with common milkweed for the females to lay their eggs on. Plus, the caterpillars are so cute!! I just love watching them snuffle around on the common milkweed leaves, chewing holes ten times bigger than their heads.
Mia your timing is great for me today. Just this morning I got myself caught up in an online drama, and when I went out to the garden with my daughter I was feeling so heavy. But then a group of finches came up to us, right up to us! and they were playing on tree branches, hanging upside down and making eye contact with me. They represent joy and it’s easy to see why, they are so playful and brought me some much needed peace. I was able to connect and play with my daughter after that. We made some beautiful items for our fairy garden and ended up having a great time.
Crows and Ravens started coming to me in an extreme way about 15 years ago. They were really warning me, big time. For a number of years, they wouldn't leave me alone. Sometimes they would crow and follow me all day, no matter where I went until I tapped into the message. They don't come as strongly now, but they definitely still come. They used to drive me crazy (they are quite intense), but I appreciate them now. Spirit connects to me through many other animals and insects, as well. I'm always listening.
I've been seeing black cats so frequently the past year. I've been thinking about adopting one around Halloween bc at first it made me feel like it was a bad omen, but the more I made contact with them I realized its my own programing to make me feel that way. I went on a date last week and low and behold we had a black cat chill by us the entire time and specifically it was only coming up to me for attention. I'm taking that as a sign that I need one in my life to show me something 💚

Went for a hike after watching one your videos about dragons and decided to try to find one myself :) Well, as soon as the music I was listening to stopped, an owl started to hoot hoot his little heart away ! Super magical moment and I wouldn't have experienced it if it wasn't for you. I now have 3 little owl statues as decor. Mia! It’s amazing because in Acting school my amazing Voice Teacher took my class and I into that drum meditation into the underworld and I was pleased and surprised to find my spirit animal was a Black Cobra! I’ll never forget that incredible experience. It was the first time I went into a trance like state and I’ve yet to replicate that deep state. But I’m on my first week of Witch School and I LOVE you❤
Wolves have always been my go-to animal. There's a wolf sanctuary near me (haven't been for awhile, and a couple have recently passed that I'm having a hard time getting there because they won't be there). But cool story during one of my visits there, I was walking down the hill towards the entrance, I don't usually take that way, and there was a black phase wolf and a white female wolf in the enclosure and they were off doing wolf things, they actually ran to my location, basically like a hello and then took off because people were coming to where i was like i had called them. I actually didn't, they came on their own. I felt pretty special that day. The black phase is the one with a horrendous back story before this place, glad he was rescued, and he's the one i haven't been able to get over the fact i wont see him there next time i go. I get very attached to wolves, should've seen me with game of thrones, that was a tough one for me, direwolves and dragons, they ripped my heart out way too much.
Red hawk has been coming up for me a lot lately, I don’t see them very often (well haven’t before anyway) and just saw one many times this week. I’ve always had a deep connection with animals, and their messages are always so helpful and appreciated. I went out to do one of my first full moon rituals outside a couple years ago. And when I went out to start, there was a beaver just sitting there watching me. I was so startled at first- but he felt so welcoming. It was incredible. And seeing what a beaver meant was so profound. Animals are such a gift to this earth. ❤️

I’ve been seeing roadrunners a lot. Just this morning, I was driving and a spunky little guy ran right out in front of my car. He stopped right in my eye line and we started at each other for about a minute. It was beautiful! I’m exciting to look up the meaning!!!
Dragons are my passion. I am learning about dragon energy…a work in progress. Once I found a great horned owl who had been struck by a car I think. I took her home for an honorable burial. My daughter who is an adult could not stop crying and cradled her in her arms for several hours. She is definitely one of my daughters totem!

Hi Mia all animals are my spirit guides as well! Ironically I went to bed last night and had the calls to go out into nature at about midnight! I’m on the east coast and there was tons of snow on the ground however I choose to be outside every day for my own healing as well as humanity in the light I spread! I love everything you said in this video about animal medicine and their shadows etc.! I literally started my journey following birds listening to trees and crystals or granite massive stones guiding me into the lower angelic realms of Gaia were the vibrations were incredibly intense and I was revealed to that I am ultra dimensional and can adjust my vibration accordingly to the reality I am in! It’s an honor and a privilege and a responsibility to have the awareness and connection to mother Gaia like we do! the other day i was on a date with myself. i was speaking via my tarot cards (i have a spirit animal deck) and right after doing so, a mother deer and her baby came along (i associate myself heavily with deer) and the mother was protecting her baby as if i was a possible threat, then she deemed i wasn’t. i took it as a lesson that some things may look like a threat, but they aren’t. same thing with the fear that you mentioned. if i was fearful, she probably would’ve charged at me. but instead i said i’m sorry to her in a gentle tone and she realized i wasn’t a threat.

a few days ago a spider visited me. I am so afraid of spiders, I was totally overwhelmed with it - it was also a reaallllly big one Dx. I managed to trap it under a glas bowl and take it outside. the weirdest thing was... the spider was super super peaceful. like... it just Idk. It had this very peaceful feeling that I havent seen in other spiders. On my way out it looked at me! I swear it looked at me and left immediately, as if it really just wanted me to see it and say hello. Its crazy but I think it was there to guided me. A weirdly spiritual experience but a powerful one and I am yet unsure how to understand it, but your video is so helpful! Thank you I love your videos please more!!!!!
Thank you! As I was watching and listening it made me realize or I just put some pieces together or the light bulb finally turned on lol we need to be more present right now and observe more too. As we are so wrapped up in our day to day and looking down all the time at our phones or in fronts of some kind of screen, we need to be in the now. There are so many messages all over the place if we just open our eyes and look. I am learning tarot and the symbols in the cards have no real different meaning than what we can see right around us. Oooo I was lucky enough to have an earth month meditation with a group of people 2 years back: We took outside rocks from our living areas and placed them on our Chakras. This group helped me see very clearly and it was a very powerful experience. I was guided up a grand staircase to a beautiful golden handle door to open up to my favorite place. For me it was a wide meadow filled with flowers and tall grass and a halo of pine trees (really funny that my name stands for green wide meadow). I could feel the sunshine and smell the pine freshness and I sat in the middle with my thighs open. A teen buck from my right approached me and sat with me. He rested his head on my thighs and and felt such a sense of belonging and happiness. I like to think this was me coming to terms with my masculine energy and I've seen a lot since that change. Very special memory in my heart and I hope my buck is still with me❤
I have lots of spirit animals of course, but the strangest in-person experience was porcupines. I kept seeing them by the road, and being morbidly attracted. For maybe two months I kept seeing them, when one would be gone they'd be a new one somewhere else along my daily commute. Finally I felt I had to stop and get some needles, I don't know what I was going to do with them, but I had to. I felt like a crazy person but I did it. The next day it was gone and there were no more. Then I had a dream about the porcupine and he said thank you for respecting and honoring his body, and because of it his spirit was able to ascend. Not sure if that makes any sense but it was pretty cool. Also garter snakes are not scared of me, they'll just keep doing their thing if I'm in the yard, or come sit in my shadow.

I just realized that Lion must be my spirit animal. I was totally obsessed with them as a child and i WAS one for a couple of years, named Leo 🦁😂 I now can see how it has shown up right before something big has happened many times . Last may for example i got some wierd neurological symptoms just in left side of my body that is still there, it comes and goes and the doctors say Im fine. The day before had been one of the best days in many years and on one of the photos from that day there are fire smoke that resembles a face. Intill now i thought it was an ”evil” face but now i understand that it is a lion! 😭💕 it looks like the ancestor clouds in the Lion king! It’s so cool when I’m visited by my rabbit friends because they don’t show me fear at all! They always seem chill and open to me. When I show them the yoga pose “rabbit” the one where you put your head on the ground in child’s pose, they even come up to me. My rabbit guide is named flame, he has an orange stripe down his back. He is so cute and such a healer for me.

I’ve been connected to the otter my whole life... the otter is my totem. Owls and felines came to me too as I got into my craft... they are also a part of my totem. Rabbits are one of my medicinal healers. Deers too. They come to me often.

I've always understood it that spirit animals are more akin to kinds of guardian Angel's that God appoints to you and usually last lifetime at least if not always with you in your souls evolution... and they teach and guide you as you have characteristics and thinking patterns, behaviors etc that are similar to that animal. And totems to me come and go as needed for life lessons sometimes can be the same kind of animal as the spirit guide sometimes not sometimes it's the exact same spiritual being acting as both.. sometimes they last few days other times they last years and can come back if later on you need to learn from that animal again. My two spirit animals particularly are a husky/wolf hybrid ..white and light grey, fluffy poofy fur and tail, and the black markings around eyes with blue eyes. He actually came to me in a moment of depression while I was at school in the 8th grade... and the other one is a bat (not sure of species of bat but it looks to be a big brown bat maybe. Idk) but I've ALWAYS loved bats and Huskies since a baby. And my totems change all the time. Currently I've had phoenix, dragon, turtle, and flamingo for a couple months (Phoenix and dragon several months) ... but I've had bat, dolphin, snake lion white tiger, black labrador, lizard, owl, mermaid, parrot, badger, raven, eagle, otter, and deer in the past. I definitely recommend animal speak by Ted Andrew's,...FASCINATING book on animal medicine (idk if you will say thos too or not. Paused to comment halfway through lol)

Hey there Mia -- the term spirit animal is an appropriation of many Indigenous cultures here in the United States and actually belongs to a specific cultural and spiritual practice of Native peoples. The Native Governance Center, an Indigenous-led non-profit, has said that cultural appropriation is a form of modern-day colonization and oppression that directly harms BIPOC. I'm sure there are other words we can use to express a similar concept that doesn't erase the experiences of our Indigenous friends.
She defined the terms as natives would it seems. She explained the purpose and importance animal totems and their meanings. I feel like she approached these topics with integrity. However, I’m interested to know what language we can/should we use when speaking about other people’s cultures. If the words themselves for example “spirit animal” are off limits, if we replace the words (without changing the definition) are we white washing? Aren’t we diluting the importance of those words? Genuine questions and thank you for getting the conversation going. My personal experience In my culture is if you use the words, define them correctly, and use them in correct context, that’s above board. It’s fair and respectful.

I want to point out that this all comes from my experiences in educating myself after learning more about appropriation and the harm it can do to the cultures involved. The issue with using the term spirit animal isn't necessarily the words themselves but what it's attached to. The phrase Spirit Animal refers to a specific set of beliefs that are practiced by many Indigenous Peoples in the United States. By taking the phrase with an already assigned belief that the average person won't have access to, we're already diluting a sacred belief system by watering it down and taking it out of the context of the culture and education involved to understand the practice. A term that I use instead for describing the Spirit of an animal that joins me on my walk in witchcraft and paganism is Spirit Companion or even Familiar. It is exactly what it sounds like -- a spirit that accompanies a person and helps them in ways they need. As far as I'm aware, these phrases aren't tied to a specific culture or practice. The issue of appropriation comes from a long history of colonization affecting Indigenous communities and watering down their sacred practices to make them easily consumable by the masses. We can't possibly understand the context or belief system that Spirit Animals are part of if we weren't raised in that culture or tradition or invited in as outsiders. Add on to this the fact that it was illegal in the United States for any Indigenous person to practice their belief system up until 1978 when the The American Indian Religious Freedom Act was passed. During the time it was illegal, corporations profited from their imagery and caused a lot of harm by diluting and whitewashing so-called "exotic" and "wild" practices. As a white woman, my general rule of thumb is that if people from other cultures have spoken out against outsiders using their terms or sacred practices, then I just don't do it. I find another way or another term that better describes what I'm doing without causing harm to an already marginalized group of people.

However, I wasn’t aware if any native representatives had spoken definitively on the use of the words and any alternatives etc. That of course will always be my definitive source of guidance. She’s known for appropriating native american culture (appropriating spirit animals), desi culture (wearing bindi’s), buddhism (buddha head statues) and hoodoo (honey jar spells) Hoodoo is a closed practice and yet her video with Sky she does a honey jar spell which origins stem from Hoodoo. Bindi’s are jewelry that stem from desi culture that should only be used by desi people and are always appropriated by white people especially in Hollywood for an aesthetic Mia’s also a known COVID-19 denier who constantly travels with large groups of people. She’s very problematic and I wish she could do better since I look up to her and her craft.

I have a connection with the monarch butterflies. My yard is practically loaded with common milkweed for the females to lay their eggs on. Plus, the caterpillars are so cute!! I just love watching them snuffle around on the common milkweed leaves, chewing holes ten times bigger than their heads.
Mia your timing is great for me today. Just this morning I got myself caught up in an online drama, and when I went out to the garden with my daughter I was feeling so heavy. But then a group of finches came up to us, right up to us! and they were playing on tree branches, hanging upside down and making eye contact with me. They represent joy and it’s easy to see why, they are so playful and brought me some much needed peace. I was able to connect and play with my daughter after that. We made some beautiful items for our fairy garden and ended up having a great time.

Crows and Ravens started coming to me in an extreme way about 15 years ago. They were really warning me, big time. For a number of years, they wouldn't leave me alone. Sometimes they would crow and follow me all day, no matter where I went until I tapped into the message. They don't come as strongly now, but they definitely still come. They used to drive me crazy (they are quite intense), but I appreciate them now. Spirit connects to me through many other animals and insects, as well. I'm always listening.

I've been seeing black cats so frequently the past year. I've been thinking about adopting one around Halloween bc at first it made me feel like it was a bad omen, but the more I made contact with them I realized its my own programing to make me feel that way. I went on a date last week and low and behold we had a black cat chill by us the entire time and specifically it was only coming up to me for attention. I'm taking that as a sign that I need one in my life to show me something 💚

Went for a hike after watching one your videos about dragons and decided to try to find one myself :) Well, as soon as the music I was listening to stopped, an owl started to hoot hoot his little heart away ! Super magical moment and I wouldn't have experienced it if it wasn't for you. I now have 3 little owl statues as decor. I’ll never forget that incredible experience. It was the first time I went into a trance like state and I’ve yet to replicate that deep state. But I’m on my first week of Witch School and I LOVE you❤

Wolves have always been my go-to animal. There's a wolf sanctuary near me (haven't been for awhile, and a couple have recently passed that I'm having a hard time getting there because they won't be there). But cool story during one of my visits there, I was walking down the hill towards the entrance, I don't usually take that way, and there was a black phase wolf and a white female wolf in the enclosure and they were off doing wolf things, they actually ran to my location, basically like a hello and then took off because people were coming to where i was like i had called them. I actually didn't, they came on their own. I felt pretty special that day. The black phase is the one with a horrendous back story before this place, glad he was rescued, and he's the one i haven't been able to get over the fact i wont see him there next time i go. I get very attached to wolves, should've seen me with game of thrones, that was a tough one for me, direwolves and dragons, they ripped my heart out way too much.

Red hawk has been coming up for me a lot lately, I don’t see them very often (well haven’t before anyway) and just saw one many times this week. I’ve always had a deep connection with animals, and their messages are always so helpful and appreciated.
I went out to do one of my first full moon rituals outside a couple years ago. And when I went out to start, there was a beaver just sitting there watching me. I was so startled at first- but he felt so welcoming. It was incredible. And seeing what a beaver meant was so profound. Animals are such a gift to this earth. ❤️

yess! such a beautiful name! and deer are the totems of artemis! shes one of the first goddesses i ever connected with, the Greek mother originally a lady of the lake and rivers too, now mostly known as the huntress and guardian of children but if you look back she was much more than that!

I’ve been seeing roadrunners a lot. Just this morning, I was driving and a spunky little guy ran right out in front of my car. He stopped right in my eye line and we started at each other for about a minute. It was beautiful! I’m exciting to look up the meaning!!!

Dragons are my passion. I am learning about dragon energy…a work in progress. Once I found a great horned owl who had been struck by a car I think. I took her home for an honorable burial. My daughter who is an adult could not stop crying and cradled her in her arms for several hours. She is definitely one of my daughters totem!
I love that you brought up the vultures. I just moved back to IL from FL and i find i honestly miss seeing them so much. They are definitely misunderstood. It's comforting to know that there are spirits to help guide the souls but also animals to help guide the bodies back to the earth in the transition ❤

Hi Mia all animals are my spirit guides as well! Ironically I went to bed last night and had the calls to go out into nature at about midnight! I’m on the east coast and there was tons of snow on the ground however I choose to be outside every day for my own healing as well as humanity in the light I spread! I love everything you said in this video about animal medicine and their shadows etc.! I literally started my journey following birds listening to trees and crystals or granite massive stones guiding me into the lower angelic realms of Gaia were the vibrations were incredibly intense and I was revealed to that I am ultra dimensional and can adjust my vibration accordingly to the reality I am in!
It’s an honor and a privilege and a responsibility to have the awareness and connection to mother Gaia like we do! I just wanted to tell you that I followed deer tracks and it literally melted my heart to be walking the same path as the spirit animals! Chills just thinking about it! It’s not all peaches and cream joy and bliss it’s can be very frustrating at times as you are navigating the realms with your heart chakra it’s as if you need to take the journey through the woods very melodically and slow at least for me!

the other day i was on a date with myself. i was speaking via my tarot cards (i have a spirit animal deck) and right after doing so, a mother deer and her baby came along (i associate myself heavily with deer) and the mother was protecting her baby as if i was a possible threat, then she deemed i wasn’t. i took it as a lesson that some things may look like a threat, but they aren’t. same thing with the fear that you mentioned. if i was fearful, she probably would’ve charged at me. but instead i said i’m sorry to her in a gentle tone and she realized i wasn’t a threat.

a few days ago a spider visited me. I am so afraid of spiders, I was totally overwhelmed with it - it was also a reaallllly big one Dx. I managed to trap it under a glas bowl and take it outside. the weirdest thing was... the spider was super super peaceful. like... it just Idk. It had this very peaceful feeling that I havent seen in other spiders. On my way out it looked at me! I swear it looked at me and left immediately, as if it really just wanted me to see it and say hello. Its crazy but I think it was there to guided me. A weirdly spiritual experience but a powerful one and I am yet unsure how to understand it, but your video is so helpful! Thank you I love your videos please more!!!!!

Thank you! As I was watching and listening it made me realize or I just put some pieces together or the light bulb finally turned on lol we need to be more present right now and observe more too. As we are so wrapped up in our day to day and looking down all the time at our phones or in fronts of some kind of screen, we need to be in the now. There are so many messages all over the place if we just open our eyes and look. I am learning tarot and the symbols in the cards have no real different meaning than what we can see right around us. Oooo I was lucky enough to have an earth month meditation with a group of people 2 years back: We took outside rocks from our living areas and placed them on our Chakras. This group helped me see very clearly and it was a very powerful experience. I was guided up a grand staircase to a beautiful golden handle door to open up to my favorite place. For me it was a wide meadow filled with flowers and tall grass and a halo of pine trees (really funny that my name stands for green wide meadow). I could feel the sunshine and smell the pine freshness and I sat in the middle with my thighs open. A teen buck from my right approached me and sat with me. He rested his head on my thighs and and felt such a sense of belonging and happiness. I like to think this was me coming to terms with my masculine energy and I've seen a lot since that change. Very special memory in my heart and I hope my buck is still with me❤

I have lots of spirit animals of course, but the strangest in-person experience was porcupines. I kept seeing them by the road, and being morbidly attracted. For maybe two months I kept seeing them, when one would be gone they'd be a new one somewhere else along my daily commute. Finally I felt I had to stop and get some needles, I don't know what I was going to do with them, but I had to. I felt like a crazy person but I did it. The next day it was gone and there were no more. Then I had a dream about the porcupine and he said thank you for respecting and honoring his body, and because of it his spirit was able to ascend. Not sure if that makes any sense but it was pretty cool. Also garter snakes are not scared of me, they'll just keep doing their thing if I'm in the yard, or come sit in my shadow.

I just realized that Lion must be my spirit animal. I was totally obsessed with them as a child and i WAS one for a couple of years, named Leo 🦁😂 I now can see how it has shown up right before something big has happened many times . Last may for example i got some wierd neurological symptoms just in left side of my body that is still there, it comes and goes and the doctors say Im fine. The day before had been one of the best days in many years and on one of the photos from that day there are fire smoke that resembles a face. Intill now i thought it was an ”evil” face but now i understand that it is a lion! 😭💕 it looks like the ancestor clouds in the Lion king! What would be more wonderful for me as a little girl to see than that? Thank you so much Mia!! 🙌🏼

Just watch this video on yesterday. And just a moment ago I accidentally kicked my spirit animal tarot deck (from yesterday) lying on the carpet as I walked in dark room. I put light on and only one that was turned the way I see the picture was Vulture spirit. I'm like OK... As you are only one I even heard speaking of this bird. And then I think I'm gonna watch what is that card that got the most far from original place on the carpet and that was a Rabbit spirit. And I'm like OK!! OK!! :D So funny. "Nothing is wasted" from Vulture. And "Now is a lucky time" from Rabbit. And I am very new to your channel, just found it and have watched couple videos only! It’s so cool when I’m visited by my rabbit friends because they don’t show me fear at all! They always seem chill and open to me. When I show them the yoga pose “rabbit” the one where you put your head on the ground in child’s pose, they even come up to me. My rabbit guide is named flame, he has an orange stripe down his back. He is so cute and such a healer for me.

I’ve been connected to the otter my whole life... the otter is my totem. Owls and felines came to me too as I got into my craft... they are also a part of my totem. Rabbits are one of my medicinal healers. Deers too. They come to me often.

Yes! They’re meant to make us hopeful!
I've always understood it that spirit animals are more akin to kinds of guardian Angel's that God appoints to you and usually last lifetime at least if not always with you in your souls evolution... and they teach and guide you as you have characteristics and thinking patterns, behaviors etc that are similar to that animal. And totems to me come and go as needed for life lessons sometimes can be the same kind of animal as the spirit guide sometimes not sometimes it's the exact same spiritual being acting as both.. sometimes they last few days other times they last years and can come back if later on you need to learn from that animal again.
My two spirit animals particularly are a husky/wolf hybrid ..white and light grey, fluffy poofy fur and tail, and the black markings around eyes with blue eyes. He actually came to me in a moment of depression while I was at school in the 8th grade... and the other one is a bat (not sure of species of bat but it looks to be a big brown bat maybe. Idk) but I've ALWAYS loved bats and Huskies since a baby. And my totems change all the time. Currently I've had phoenix, dragon, turtle, and flamingo for a couple months (Phoenix and dragon several months) ... but I've had bat, dolphin, snake lion white tiger, black labrador, lizard, owl, mermaid, parrot, badger, raven, eagle, otter, and deer in the past.
I definitely recommend animal speak by Ted Andrew's,...FASCINATING book on animal medicine (idk if you will say thos too or not. Paused to comment halfway through lol)

I was about to forward past it and then I heard your voice echoing in my head saying any time an animal keeps coming up notice it and think about it means to you. Hey there Mia -- the term spirit animal is an appropriation of many Indigenous cultures here in the United States and actually belongs to a specific cultural and spiritual practice of Native peoples. The Native Governance Center, an Indigenous-led non-profit, has said that cultural appropriation is a form of modern-day colonization and oppression that directly harms BIPOC. I'm sure there are other words we can use to express a similar concept that doesn't erase the experiences of our Indigenous friends.
She defined the terms as natives would it seems. She explained the purpose and importance animal totems and their meanings. I feel like she approached these topics with integrity.
However, I’m interested to know what language we can/should we use when speaking about other people’s cultures. If the words themselves for example “spirit animal” are off limits, if we replace the words (without changing the definition) are we white washing? Aren’t we diluting the importance of those words?

My personal experience In my culture is if you use the words, define them correctly, and use them in correct context, that’s above board. It’s fair and respectful.
@@SP.Addams These are all great questions and I'm glad you asked! I want to point out that this all comes from my experiences in educating myself after learning more about appropriation and the harm it can do to the cultures involved.
The issue with using the term spirit animal isn't necessarily the words themselves but what it's attached to. The phrase Spirit Animal refers to a specific set of beliefs that are practiced by many Indigenous Peoples in the United States. By taking the phrase with an already assigned belief that the average person won't have access to, we're already diluting a sacred belief system by watering it down and taking it out of the context of the culture and education involved to understand the practice. A term that I use instead for describing the Spirit of an animal that joins me on my walk in witchcraft and paganism is Spirit Companion or even Familiar. It is exactly what it sounds like -- a spirit that accompanies a person and helps them in ways they need. As far as I'm aware, these phrases aren't tied to a specific culture or practice.
The issue of appropriation comes from a long history of colonization affecting Indigenous communities and watering down their sacred practices to make them easily consumable by the masses. We can't possibly understand the context or belief system that Spirit Animals are part of if we weren't raised in that culture or tradition or invited in as outsiders. Add on to this the fact that it was illegal in the United States for any Indigenous person to practice their belief system up until 1978 when the The American Indian Religious Freedom Act was passed. During the time it was illegal, corporations profited from their imagery and caused a lot of harm by diluting and whitewashing so-called "exotic" and "wild" practices.
As a white woman, my general rule of thumb is that if people from other cultures have spoken out against outsiders using their terms or sacred practices, then I just don't do it. I find another way or another term that better describes what I'm doing without causing harm to an already marginalized group of people.

However, I wasn’t aware if any native representatives had spoken definitively on the use of the words and any alternatives etc. That of course will always be my definitive source of guidance. I’m interested in hearing more opinions from native perspectives on this subject. Simply deciding to no longer use the term is just a starting point. And it really is such an easy change to make. How do you feel about “animal spirit guide”?
@@SP.Addams Seeking Native sources is always the best option 🤗 I know a few have spoken about it online. The one I mentioned above, The Native Governance Center, has some good information on alternate terms and words outsiders should avoid using.

She’s known for appropriating native american culture (appropriating spirit animals), desi culture (wearing bindi’s), buddhism (buddha head statues) and hoodoo (honey jar spells)
Hoodoo is a closed practice and yet her video with Sky she does a honey jar spell which origins stem from Hoodoo.
Bindi’s are jewelry that stem from desi culture that should only be used by desi people and are always appropriated by white people especially in Hollywood for an aesthetic
Mia’s also a known COVID-19 denier who constantly travels with large groups of people. She’s very problematic and I wish she could do better since I look up to her and her craft.
