It's kind of the other way around. That riff was part of "Wings of Fate" in Soul Calibur 1, which was the theme "Under the Pledge" is based on. Then they reuse it for "If there were any other way" in Soul Calibur 2. A bit weird, since "Wings of Fate"/"Under the Pledge" is supposed to be Sophitia's Theme, but in any case, it's one hell of a theme.
Hearing this intro with Mitsurugi saying "THE WAIT IS OVER! LET'S BEGIN!" in the options mode really summed up my thoughts of Soul Calibur 6 in general, like this song was a victorious reprise of the franchise itself.
