This is one of my favorite short local hikes to do with my pup, as she really loves climbing the steep path and it's a much shorter drive for me than Castlewood, Greensfelder, or Rockwood Reservation. As an aside, you can do the park as a single large unpaved loop - head left once you cross the bridge to climb up to the bluff you were on, and when that comes back down, cross the paved trail and go up again to reach a "fake" bluff overlooking highway 270. You can follow that all the way to the edge of the park, where it loops back down to the parking lot, for about a 2 mile hike. Also if this trail doesn't satisfy your hiking needs, it's a 3-minute drive to Powder Valley Nature Center or Laumeier Sculpture Park.
My family was the owners of Club Fountainbleau when I was a child. My father sold his half to my uncle sometime before it was closed. I spent most of my summer days there. I even manned the snack bar sometimes. There was a huge picnic area along the Meramac river that we picnicked at on Sundays. I have many fond memories of that place.
Emmenegger is a fantastic park. I walked the trails up on to the bluffs many times. I have seen what I believe to be the remains of the Betsy Ann at low water, but it was on the park side of the river. Thanks for a great video!

Ah, the good old days when the meramec river was full of resorts rather than signs with skulls saying not to get in the water because drunken idiots who don't know how to swim don't realize what a river is...

Super cool. Been there many times but didn't know the history. Saw the remains of the Betsyanne but didn't know the history. Thank you.

I used to fish around it as a kid.
Ahhhh! Progress! Ain’t it a wonderful thing!
I taught my son how to drive at Emmenegger! 😂
