  • Yes, I am grow my own GMO-free organic sweet corn indoors. Here's how: I started it off in a dish of water to activate the corn and speed up the germinating process. Now its time to pot it on and move it outside where it will harden off and eventually go into the garden.
    I am growing this corn for both its cobs and it's looks.It should add some hight and shape to the garden.

    We ate soooo much corn this summer, but I never got tired of it! Nice video Scarlett!

    Great video, I used cfl bulbs for a long time to start seeds until I watched this investigational RUclips video on them. Toxic Lights CFL energy saving lightbulbs, toxic chemicals and the need to see daylight. Led grow lights are non toxic last much longer and getting much cheaper on eBay.

    Another great video Scarlett! It is good to know that you are using organic seeds in your garden. I have used Christmas lights around plants and fruit trees to help protect them from frost in the past. It is pretty and worked for me.(-: I'm not sure if it will work in Germany or not but you may want to experiment...I look forward to your next video!

      Eco Oasis That is a great idea! I use the grow cloth and wrap or cover all the vulnerable plants. Mini led lights would indeed look really good too.

      That won't work with the new LED lights☹, they don't generate any heat

    Just saw the corn video, very nice!
    I am trying to grow some heirloom Incan black corn so I can get seeds and expand my seed library and share them with people who are serious about gardening. I have a rather larg variety of seeds but its still verry small compared to what I want it to be one day.
    Thanks for the comment by the way !

      Nice to see you in my neck of YT. :) That is a really awesome goal you've got!
      How many seeds do you hope to have in your finished seed library?
      Thanks for commenting!

      ***** Hi HCC I think I already answered this question somewhere else.. :)
      The answer is no. You'll need properly harvested (dry) seeds. Popcorn that hasn't been toasted or seasoned and is organic will germinate. Just soak the seeds for a few days and then pop them in a pot of soil.
      Scarlett
      Ps. I recommend getting some sweet corn seeds and working with that they're common and cheep and come 50+ seeds to a pack.
      Happy gardening :)

    How interesting. Would love to see this in Winter.

  • @potatom3611
    @potatom3611 8 лет назад

    Hey! I was wondering how I'll harvest the ears when they're ready, and also if dry, warm climates would allow drying the ears within mesh bags outside. As in, the bags keeping out bugs and being hung up outside like a clothes line? Just wondering, seeing as how I plan to try homemade popcorn!
    On another little detail- about how low should I put the roots down in soil? And can I grow corn fully in a pot, or will the roots break it for room?
    Thanks!

      ***** Thank you! I am very pleased with how this turned out. I've been wondering how I can film in the growing room (where to put the camera) seems like the window sills work just fine. Which is great coz I've got lots of episodes planned for indoor winter gardening.

    Your videos are uncanny in that they are exactly what I'm doing now. I've always been told you can't transplant corn, and I'm calling BS. I rest and RUclips Saturdays, so today is Scarlett day. :)

    • @HowToGrowAGarden
      @HowToGrowAGarden  9 лет назад

      Joey Bologny Ya I call BS too. You can totally transplant anything you just have to know your plant and in some cases not let it know it's being moved at all. Scarlett day, I love it! Thanks for the comments do keep um coming.
      I am off to tackle the ridge just beyond the garden. I want to start a wild meadow and lupin patch on the other side of the road across from the garden.
      Unfortunately I left my camera in the car and I was all ready to film starting peppers from seed. oh well I'll do it tomorrow. :)
      Happy gardening & Enjoy the show! (and the ads - as they help pay for the garden)

    Very unorthodox technique. Nice work young lady! I would be afraid to let them grow that long without access to nutrients. As soon as they sprout a tail, I usually put them in a mild soil. Now I see, corn is not so fragile.

      +Saint Michael, Absolutely with tomatoes, peppers, herbs, lavender.. but corn seams to just keep growing.
      Happy Gardening,

    Hi I am looking at growing inside home all year round can I grow the corn in the house I have to younge daughter's who I want to do this with. Until I feel confident in moving to the Gerd en then growing thanks

    • @HowToGrowAGarden
      @HowToGrowAGarden  9 лет назад

      Hi Paul, if you have south facing windows and you can add a light above the plants in the winter month and on cloudy days. I don't see why you couldn't try growing corn (or anything else) indoors. Corn likes lots of sun (think of full sun corn fields) and warm soil. Corn takes 3 months from germination to harvest and without wind you'll need to self pollinate the plants. If you have a wintergreen or sunroom that would be perfect.
      Do let me know how it goes.
      Good luck

      How to Grow a Garden with Scarlett Damen thanks for that will do I will keep an eye on your videos and watch. I will be wanting to try all sorts but in small quantities. Potatoes cucumber carrots etc. The reason being if I grow my own and the girls to take part. Then it may encourage them to eat more vegetables. Thanks for the reply and will certainly keep you in the loop regards paul

    • @HowToGrowAGarden
      @HowToGrowAGarden  9 лет назад

      Can you grow then outside and get the girls to help start the seeds inside, watch them germinate and then help you transplant them into the garden. I'd start with all year strawberries as few children can resist strawberries. :)

      +Paul Reed Just remember how freakin tall corn gets. Depending on your strain and grow method, it often grows 10+ feet. Unless you got a really high ceiling and lights that can accommodate the leaf area on that plant, more power to you! I would love to see indoor corn myself. Sounds like fun, and good luck!!! Let me know how it goes.
