I think I like the idea of when zamasu took gokus body instead of just switching them goku is still there but is fighting for control more like two souls in one body.
Zamasu's swapping bodies is just like ginyu's...if not stronger, he made a wish using the super dragon balls and *swapped bodies with Goku*. In other words, Goku just instantly became "zamasu" (before getting killed ofc). So Goku is dead.
