If Sony announced the PS5 Pro as a 30th Anniversary console (with a disc drive!) without limiting the stock, they would sell millions at $700+ per unit and everyone would be happy.

I spent two hours in the UK waiting room, then only had to queue for 6 minutes which jumped to 3 minutes then 1 minute in alot less than 6 minutes.
I got the 30th bundle in my cart only for them to tell me at checkout it was out of stock.
I ended up with the standard PS5 Pro and the 30th Edge controller.
I had sat up for 26 hours and your stream really made the long wait bearable.

Manged to get the 30th bundle. Yeah i remember say situation. But lol 😂 it was the way had thumbnail if didn't click on 1st you'd miss out. Had multiple pages open . Samsung Internet. But seemed to get better job using Chrome. 🤔 . Seemed to go smoothly. Dude at least you'll have one. Man well done 👏 to you. I ain't in for scalping or anything. Gonna keep that baby & be 🤫 that own 1 of them.
I think they should send a custom email to verified PlayStation account holders guaranteeing a spot to pick one up. That’s how I got my launch PS5.

This may be a little long but there’s several things Sony could have done here:
-First off they once again changed the parameters of the Queue. They actually paused the queue an hour before which means they had a pre queue queue. Why advertise a 10am est sale time when the queue paused at 9am? Thats just stupid.
- Sony could easily have sent out invites to PlayStation loyalist. People who have supported them from day 1 or who have made multiple purchases over the years. You send these people direct links to buy everyone else gets a regular pro.
- now the easier thing to do would have been make 12,300 numbered limited edition bundles and the rest could have been unnumbered but the same bundles but randomly sent to buyers. Many people just said forget pro at all after they didn’t get a 30th anniversary pro.
I’m no guy working at a big marketing firm but even I know 12,300 worldwide of something is plain stupid on Sony’s part and to not have learned your lesson previously from other limited edition launches makes zero sense. I have zero confidence Sony will learn from this when they launch limited products in the future.

I got the 30th pro edition and ill never do a playstation fan by overpricing it if i was going to sell it, but im going to keep the one i got from psdirect since im in my 30s and a symbol of 30th edition really hits home since the ps1

Imo the best thing that Sony could have done is allow people a one time chance to preorder one 30th anniversary edition pro system on a verified date between a set period of time. All orders would then be processed and fulfilled. I’m sure it would be over 12,300 systems, but it would give everyone an opportunity. Have it over a 24/48 hour period that you can place a single order. Scalpers would still scalp I’m sure, but it would have been better as a whole.
Tje problem with scalpers are the buyers. We're the problem. If we stop buying from scalpers they wouldn't buy them in the first place.
They'll always be those willing to pay. Money 💰 you see going for or potentially. To a millionaire nothing at all. To have 1 of 12,300 to any collector or Sony fan well heeled it's a no brainer
I was able to snag the 30 Anniversary Edition Pro bundle. I was queued up for like two hour beforehand. I got in and then when the queue reset it took me back to the queue but I never had a wait time. It immediately said it was my turn. Had to wait a little for it to take me to the site proper in order to buy it, but it went pretty quickly once I got in.

Queue reset at 10am EST, was back on queue screen, 🟡🟨🟨🟨⬜️⬜️⬜️ but it showed no wait time, I immediately had the pop-up "That it was my time to enter the store".... it had like a 30-second delay, so I thought I was glitched out... but then dumped me right in, and I snagged it. No password needed or anything. 10 second check out. Was stoked!
I have PS5, and I don't want the regular PS5 pro and have no plan to pick it up anytime soon, BUT I want the 30th anniversary PS5 Pro bundle, it's nostalgic. Sony should have made more of that not just 12,300 of them. I don't care about the limited number thing on the console. Just want the PS1 30th anniversary theme on PS5 pro.

2. I waited till 9 a.m EST
3. I logged in 3 devices without any help from bots or else
4. I waited while it was paused (while working)
5. I got in the site on all 3
6. I bought it (PS5 Pro bundle)
7. And went back to work.

The sad thing is… this edition probably steered the scalpers away from purchasing the base version of the ps5 until it was out of stock since it’s such a high ticket item… I wanted the 30th anniversary but I’m still grateful I got my ps5 pro pre-order….
Just sell them based on a queue and 1 per account, determined by how long the person has a playstation account. That way the longest die hard fans would get priority and bots won't get in unless the account is stolen.

They should have just made all PS5 Pro made in 2024 be the 30th anniversary edition, so when the regular version comes out next year, people may actually justify the sticker price.
How absolutely blind Sony is, I had no desire for a PS 5 Pro, but I was in line to scoop up one of the Anniversary editions, I am sure that there are plenty more like me out there. Sony really missed a great opportunity for some $$$ and even more importantly they lost even more good will.
They know how to add so about losing money nah is a strategy they were testing the waters.
I also attempted and prepared very well hours earlier on the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle and didn’t have a chance. I was able to cart and purchase one of each other 30th anniversary item but let’s be honest, we all wanted the pro version. And Sony knew what they was doing. That $699 price for the regular PS5 Pro had people deterred and had no stand nor disc drive. But releasing a very limited number of 30th anniversary Pro bundles which technically was a lotto grab, made people settle for the regular Pro. If they released over 50,000 or millions of them noone would buy the regular pro version. Sony wins in the end as well as the scalpers. The actual PS1 OG fans lost here.
The problem is there's a big difference between making money and doing right by the consumers. Unfortunately, Sony and eBay benefit more from one over the other.
I agree they need to go back to physical retailer releases for these special editions especially. Get there early camp out and stand in line like the good old days. The retailer gives people a number matching the number of preorders allotted as they join the line so that way people can't call friends and family to come cut in line, no number from the line, no preorder. That's the only way to beat scalpers at this point. I was able to get the 30th controller and the 30th Portal. As far as the PS5 Pro goes, I'll just get some classic grey skins or plates and the rainbow logo skin is easy to find and that's good enough for me.
The live stream was a blast. The all-nighter for me was well worth it, not only by being able to help people and providing tips.... but just being able to casual chat with people all over the globe. The turnout on your stream with people from so many countries was epic. Still sad that there were so many L's
they only made 12,300 that’s a very small amount of console. So million of people are not gonna get one it doesn’t matter it’s not a big of a deal. It’s just a color not that serious.
Listen Sony is not stupid. They know selling it online and scalpers will buy it and sell it for a higher price. Selling it online was going to guarantee that it will sell. That’s all Sony really wanted.

The portals were gone like that too. It was my fall back, but like you said it wouldn't let you add anything to cart. Not even the non anniversary stuff. It was terrible. I even made sure to sign in through the app to avoid any delays to getting in.
Gotta blame the people paying the scalpers as well. The same people who cannot wait and need a out dated box painted grey. Nostalgia is a hell of a tool.
Sony doesn't care about its fans. How do you make a 30th Anniversary Celebration and reduce it down to something for bots? They should have made plates for the console and physical release at retailers for everything else.
Hey, I was able to get one of everything except the 30th Anniversary Slim, and that's because I didn't want it. Three of my devices got into the queue almost back-to-back, so I placed three separate orders for different things.
Someone spending over a thousand dollars to triple their money, is NOT going through ANY tough times! It’s pure greed by those that have more money/buying power than others.

The main problem is that they kick you in 10 mins that's all you have to buy something when that queue-it system is active. The problem is they started that functionality even for early sign-ins, and it's somewhat non-intuitive because people think they're early and will be closer to the front of the virtual line just like physically waiting outside a store. Maybe there's a reason they set it up like that, but the result is that it was dumb random luck where you happened to be when they paused and resumed relative to when one had last kicked out and had to wait all over. EG I had to start over and did on 1 laptop about 2 hours before it went live, I got to about 3/4 the way progress then the line paused. When it resumed I still had around 15 mins to wait, by the time I got in again was about 10 mins after it went live and the 30th pro was already gone. I did get the 30th edge controller at least, and might go for the 30th regular dualsense but otherwise won't try for the 30th normal slim. Just get some aftermarket gray plates skin or stickers etc

I got in right from the start but the ps5 pro 30th edition was not listed even though everything else was. I bought the portal and a controller. When I got back in after the purchase the ps5 pro 30th edition showed up but showed currently unavailable. I can say that it was never for sale here in my area of Texas. They could easily sell these to loyal gamers. Steam did when they sold the Steam deck limited editions by requiring an account with purchases made in the last 30 days. I had no problem buying it. I think far less of Sony after this. Like most I only wanted the pro 30th anniversary version and had the money ready. After what they did I skipped on buying the pro all together and will be returning the disk drive I had bought for it. I may just go with pc, I dont like supporting companies that do this type of thing.
IMO instead of limited consoles, it should be limited time to order it online. This way all people who ordered in 24 hours can get it. Obviously, delivery date could be well over 6 months to a year but everyone will be paying retail price and get it eventually. Once they have the final count they can produce them.
I think reliance on online purchasing is becoming a problem, and we’re just now starting to see the consequences. In-store sales are an easy way to fix the scalper problems.
The problem is bro eBay and Sony don’t care they get paid regardless of how scummy scalpers are . These should’ve been sold as plates that way everyone get they’re hands on them how can you celebrate a 30th anniversary for fans when they can’t even get these products at all lol

I still have my original playstation 1 and all the accessories all still sealed, so getting the 30th anniversary was something I didn't want. I just pre-ordered the standard ps5 Pro

Concord bailed out, the PSN-Steam account linking issue, live-service failures, State Of Mid, and this absolutely ridiculous $700 price tag on PS5 Pro. Haven’t Sony learned anything from their meme-friendly E3 2006 presentation when they announce the PS3 for $599, which the PS5 Pro Price Hike at $700 is in fact $100 less than the PS3’s launch. But I’m sorry. $700 is way too expensive. A big shady embarrassment by Sony.

These were targeted at collectors not the general public and Sony does not give a rat's tail about its customers. They are in business to make money and that is exactly what they did. Get you a regular Play Station 5 Pro. The playstation is nothing but a giant graphics card so the 30th edition is just that with a color scheme. If Sony cared about their customers, they'd produced 100 million of them ensuring everyone who wanted to get one got one.
I wanted that limited edition controller badly and i refuse to pay anything other than the official price from PlayStation. What a gosh darn bummer

I agree and disagree. I think 30 000 units was a good number to go with for the 30th, but people with disabilities can't always make it to a store, but I agree with the point where you were thinking on if that makes sense.
You got to get them out there, but to them, I don't think they care anymore for plebs. Big boys club now. $100 bucks minimum in Canada for controller, year of basic online $100. Its SONY Selling The ANNIVERSARY PS5 Console For $5K, it's the PERFECT Money Grab..!! The PS5 Pro should've been the Anniversary Edition, it doesn't make sense to have multiple PS5's coming out around the same time.
Depending the company at retail store's associates would just snag them before hitting the shelf & back to eBay basically* it's up to the companies policy if so.
I won't mind if Sony came out soon and say since the bundle was a hit we decided to make the bundle a part of the lineup and alternate color. Even I the console doesn't have the production numbers on it. I went as well an hour before was able to go into website 30 min after it started. And bundle already sold out. But was able to get a portal anniversary and a dualsense. At this point I'll wait till November to maybe consider a PS5 pro and maybe we get more color options.

I had to wait 18 minutes I went with the standard ps5 pro didn't want the 30th anniversary bundle because I have an original ps1 till sealed in a box and the accessories.
They should just allow 1 person with 1 entry using their real name and matching credit card with the name, then let them register to enroll for a draw. That’s it, square and fair

When the que let me in, the pro bundle was unavailable and ive restart the page and sign out n in and it still unavailable, ive decided to get the 30th slim and after i placed my order, it shown that the bundle cane be place in cart and i did that, glad i got the bundle but i ended up with 2 consoles, luckily

I feel like I got so lucky. I was using 2 devices one loaded in at over an hour wait the other went in at 6 minutes. I was so shocked I was literally shaking as I was entering my payment info. Received confirmation email at 10:19 P.M.

While ai agree scalpers are scumbags in general. Your idea of a physical release unfortunately would not solve the issue as family members would just go to the shop similar to online. I do agree it would be fun.
I don't ghink there is an easy way to fix this. I wonder if Sony were to look at the length of time you have had a Sony account and were to send out an email/message to your PS5 asking if you are interested in the new model you maybe say yes and your given a code.
All the yes codes are entered into a lottery type system and if you get one great if not at least it might have been fairer.
Originally I balked at the price for what is essentially a few minor upgrades without the stand and the disc drive and a streak in the middle of the console. Then I saw the bundle.

I'm going to say this the PS5 Pro is not worth it and the PlayStation fanboys will completely disagree with me on this, but you're getting ripped off by Sony and to make matters even worse you're going to get even more ripped off by the scalpers because if you compare the PS5 to the previous consoles you will realize wow the price is much better back then such as the PS1 was a good start from Sony and if I remember the price of it was 299 in the UK, in America I think it was 349 and had good exclusives, the PS2 same price range as the PS1 with equal or better exclusives, the PS3 had a rough start and if I remember they reduced the price and had some really good exclusives as well, the PS4 not a bad console and it had good exclusives while cost 349.99 in the UK, in America just free 399.99 but the downside with a PS4 is you have to pay for membership (for discounts that you can get for free on PC, two or three games for free where you can get tons on PC and pay a fee to play games online which is free on PC ), the PS5 price range is overpriced, hardly any exclusives, the membership-based model is completely overpriced to the point that I do blame Xbox for this online membership for consoles now releasing a pro version that's overpriced.
Basically I'm saying people who is defending the ninth gen consoles really need to look in the mirror and think to themselves are these consoles even worth getting, plus I'll say this to people these days just have a look at gaming PC, gaming laptop, steam deck or other handheld like the steam deck, because I'm only saying this that these corporations are not your friends and PC gaming is not as expensive as many say.

How does a billion dollar company suck at programming pre order drops... how do they make the ps5 pro but their own fucking site can't handle the simple process of cashing out?....how does a person get it in their cart and because of a website issue...something that has nothing to do with us as the consumer...because of glitches on their end we get fucked over.. you go from oh its in my cart to hey we know it was in your cart and you were just in the process of cashing out...buuut we're putting you BACK IN THE QUE............how is that ok?....if it was in store the staff wouldn't allow it. I got in, and then it asked what country i was in, and canada wasn't an option to pick! And i didn't know what to do! Also, couldn't they have emailed their players directly? They have trophie lvls and game history's on the psn. They could have sent emails to players that have a long history of their gaming a link to get in a que with date and time for their legitimate audience! The ppl that actually have prof not sculpers and ps lover!
