Here in Maine the saying is if you want deer to show up just start a chainsaw and a skidder

I would not be surprised if we didn't see a deer pop up. When I was a kid I saw my dad shoot a nice 10.pointer while we were cutting wood. That winch is impressive. Did any of you get a deer???

I use to live on a 400 acre dairy farm. Plenty of woods surrounding the property. In the winter, we had a Tree Farmer C4 and a John Deere 440B skidders. Logging was a great winter income to go along with the dairy operation. Used to use the 440B for pushing snow as well.

My dad had a landscaping business. We didn't do a lot of tree work but we did do some. He would always say never trust a tree until it is completely on the ground.

You guys have got some spooky steep hills. That tree looks like white oak, we are loosing our white oak here in Ohio but that tree is obviously still alive. I would have to cut it at the line fence and repair the fence.

Going to get good amount of wood in those trees, there is a logging cone that covers the end of the log when dragging the log so it doesn't dig in the ground, now to fix the fence, have a great day.

You have some steep hills to work on in your area. Is it too steep for your skid steer to drive up? Looks like it could be. But you have the winch so use it.

  • @DonWelter

That winch is quite a beast for long pulls. We've used a cable and chains...stumps and brushy clumps can definitely cause problems!!!

aluminum has no plastic yield strength, unlike steel. Its great for light duty use but can't be bent back into shape at all or it will break

Taking a video behind that winch is no less than foolish. I have seen winch lines snap in various places sending that pully 200 mph over someones head. NEVER stand in front of, behind, or beside a winch.
