I've just seen Nelson's column video yesterday, now this. Shame he seemed a right character, sadly I'm way to young to have seen him on screen as I'm a 90s child. But nice to look back.
Glad to have grown up in an era where great tv moments stood out and last in the memory a lifetime. John Noakes was an absolute legend. Today we can’t even remember what happened on tv yesterday.
Val, John and Pete were the best. None of them since have come close. I was watching BP in the 60s and 70s and it was a golden era... even saw them setting off on the London to Brighton car race in the late 60s. John was fearless, there'll never be anyone like him again. R.I.P.
He was a Hero a action man l will never forget Blue Peter and the great John noakes a man that will be missed so much thank you Blue Peter for making my childhood so happy 😃
You were a massive part of my childhood and many others as well in the 1960's /70's and very much loved by us all .thank you for all the fun and intresting things you showed us john with your time on tv you will be very much missed by us all R.I P john 🌼🐶❤X
That Blue Peter presenter line-up defined my childhood. Johnny was a gem and it's a great sign when an obituary makes me laugh out loud at the end. RIP John and Shep.
I loved watching Blue Peter when I was younger, I have two of the books with John and Peter, Val plus the dog Petra in them. Rest in peace John, you made so many boys and girls happy watching you all. God bless.
Biddy Baxter makes a comment in her book Blue Peter the Inside Story. Describing how the stresses and strains of live TV eventually caught up with him in mid 1978: "John seemed eternally youthful then one weekend he went home looking twenty two and came back looking forty." Incredibly he was 44 when left Blue Peter, even more incredibly that was 42 years ago today.
Back when Blue Peter was actually Blue Peter. It's just become a kids' version of The One Show and Biddy Baxter (still alive) is bitterly disappointed by it.
The 5th anniversary of his passing is only days away! Can it really be? All the great presenters of my childhood are gone now. It's no small wonder that I got rid of my TV as there is nothing on it now that is worth watching. No presenters of John's calibre remain.
John Noakes was why you watched Blue Peter. He was the antidote to the straight-laced po-faced 'auntie-BBC' public persona, particularly if you watched this programme any further north than Droitwich. Unfortunately they nobbled him in the end. He was clobbered into extinction by the 'Jolly Hockey Sticks' approach of Biddy Baxter.
He WAS the best Blue Peter presenter, God Bless Him.
And Shep
RIP, John. You made my days as a child in the 70's very happy ones.
mine too; loved this show
What a presenter.
Absolute legend. Had a voice that warmed you inside.
Welling up again just watching this three years later. A little bit of childhood gone forever. Rest easy, John.

RIP John - you were one of my heroes (and Shep).
He was a very brave man because he was just as scared of heights as the next man but he was expected to do these things as a presenter.
Sheer class - the current BBC are simply trash in comparison. God bless you John - and thanks for all the great entertainment.

A legendary normal bloke. So loved and fondly missed.
Rip John
If I was going to name the five top presenters, I wouldn’t say “Ant, Dec, Barker, McDonald”, I’d say “Judd, Noakes, Purves, Singleton… Craven. So…”
What about Sessions?
He's not my favourite presenter of all time by the way,. No. My favourite presenter of all time ...is Mr Geoffrey Hayes.
Top guy. He wouldn't get a look in at the BBC these days :(
What I liked about, John, was that he was, genuine, matter-f-fact.Also,that, warm, northern, charm.Great man, from my childhood.

Blue Peter was a highlight in a rather dull, boring childhood in a northern city.
Such a lovely man was John.😊

😥
I remember when he climbed up nelsons column i thought the mans got balls of steel!
Absolutely brave as ####!
So sorry, John was a legend.
John Noakes always looked like a 19 years old.

loved him as a kid!!!
Back when Blue Peter was actually Blue Peter.
It's just become a kids' version of The One Show and Biddy Baxter (still alive) is bitterly disappointed by it.
What a shock. You got me upset.
Thank you John.
R.I.P John Noakes 1934-2017.
R.I.P God bless him TV will never see the likes of him again
A great Blue Peter presenter, and tv legend. He blended very well with Valerie Singleton and Peter Purves who also stood out as great presenters.
The holy trinity - John, Pete & Val.
Fearless!.
How sad such a great bloke he climbed Nelson's column no safety harness
He was Superman for me..... who else would climb Nelson's column without a safety rope.....? Brave boy John.... bless you ❤

The Classic Blue Peter.
John Noakes was from Shelf. Halfway between Bradford and Halifax. So was it really Halifax, BD3 or HX6?
We have sound!
An inspiration. RiP John.
The 5th anniversary of his passing is only days away! Can it really be? All the great presenters of my childhood are gone now. It's no small wonder that I got rid of my TV as there is nothing on it now that is worth watching. No presenters of John's calibre remain.

Get Down Shep!
Everyone's uncle.

Janet is still looking very attractive (oooh sexist) 😄
he was good but i got really fed up as a kid watching his stunts
it's you're not your.
They could never do it today, none of the presenters had insurance...

Nobbled by the Boy Bashing Corporation.
