  • A ferry ran aground in New Zealand during an island crossing. No injuries were reported.
    47 people unable to disembark had to spend the night aboard in an incident the government described on Saturday as "very concerning."
    Operated by state-owned enterprise KiwiRail, the Interislander Aratere ferry ran aground in Friday's incident near the town of Picton, on the north coast of the South Island.
    The refloating of the ferry, part of a fleet that links Wellington, the capital, and Picton is scheduled for late on Saturday night.

    Does the media not know that a ship’s crew actually live onboard the ship? The only people that had an extended stay were the handful of truck drivers onboard.

    How and why ?

    • @charlesnol2187
      @charlesnol2187 10 дней назад

      How and why? The ships and infrastructure that support them are at/beyond retirement age. The ships themselves are constantly having issues (weekly).
      They canceled the works that were going to upgrade the infrastructure and the two new ferries because the project costs kept increasing from 700 million to 3.5 billion.
      But the ferries they were going to get were too big for picton and would have to be turned around and towed backward into the port for about 45 minutes just to unload.

      @@charlesnol2187 thanks, I assume it was component failure then and not crew error

    I blame Kiwi rail not knowing how to run any thing at all. They just suck the money and not deliver anything. Just change the top management. This will fix in no time. They are running around just like their ferries

      Labour government had new ferries on order. This government cancelled them and paid millions not to buy them. National are not good at long term planning.

    Did they not have a reverse gear? or bow thrusters? Looks like it was intentionally grounded, or nudged, for fear that.........?
