4yr, $3.5m for a mid-6 forward with speed? I'll take it any day. Loved when The Duke played here in AZ & hoped he would land in the Island at some point.
I've noticed with Duclair, who has played for a bunch of teams, that when he switches teams he gets off to a hot start, but then slows down and becomes the player he has been most of his career. So I'm not sure what you're going to get out of him on a 4 year contract. A really good player until December 2024, then just another guy for the next 3 1/2 years?
This is clearly Lou's best offseason. The NYI biggest needs was speed on the Wing at a reasonable price(check!), a low priced DMan(check) & prospect depth to trade later, if it makes sense. Lou turned the 18th & 60 overall picks into Eiserman, Pulkkinen & Bednarik. Elite Prospects ranked Pulkkinen as 1 of 5 best Offensive DMen in Draft. Which is saying A LOT! Has there ever been a Draft w/ 8 better O-Dmen talents than Levshunov, Buium, Parekh, Yakemchuk, Dickinson, Hutson, Kiviharju & Pulkkinen?). Dobber Prospects called Pulkkinen the only Unicorn DMan in this Draft(Not A.Silayev) Lou took a huge risk that moving back in both rds wouldnt haunt us. Eiserman ranked 5th by Craig Button & 8th by 'RedLine Report' is a steal. (Eiserman could be a historic steal) The last 6 times I said the Islanders got a major steal were Barzal, Beauvillier, Dobson, B.Nelson, Aatu Raty & Sebastian Aho. Then at 61 we get K.Bednarik one of the safest picks in the draft. Eiserman & Pulkkinen are huge upside swings. As we saw w/ Raty & Ville Pokka, getting a 2nd rd pick with big upside can net you a star(ie: Nick Leddy & Bo Horvat). We also took 2 very intriuging Goalies in Gamzin(who our new Goalie Coach vouched for. Coached both Sorokin & Gamzin in CSKA & both 6'3 w similar stats).Then took 6'6 Marcus Gidlof who Corey Pronman ranked as the top Goalie in the entire draft!(One of the reasons Gidlof fell to us is because theres speculation Gidlof could grow a couple more inches. No one wants a 6'8 Goalie.(Well except the Isles who ended up with 2 of them. Lol). I cant believe we gave A.Duclair reasonable term & money.
With these signings Oliver Wahlstrom is probably going to be traded

On who? 4yrs 14mil for a Winger w/ excellent speed who scored 55 Goals in 147games in his last 2(healthy) seasons. This is the one time we didn't overpay. Duclair is as streaky as any player in the league. But Patrick Roy vouched for him & they have a great relationship from when he coached him. Patrick Roy is a great motivator. I assumed we gave Duclair atleast 6yrs 36mil. This is a bargain.

I like the signing of Duclair and Reilly, as anytime I watched San Jose, Duclair was the only guy that stood out with his hustle and speed, so I like it.
One can hope Lou pulls off some trades .. this roster need new life

He's healthy I like it and I think he'll play good here
