Excellent visual aid to help those of us that can't quite make out all of the audio descriptions. Thanks Gus, Chris, and the Animation Team.
I enjoyed this more than Air Crash Investigations.
With Air Crash Investigations it’s drawn out and filled with unnecessary dramatic pauses.
Gus was informative and straight to the point, and a Chris was asking questions that a regular viewer may ask who are not familiar with Aviation lingo.
I actually love they dynamic they have because of exactly that. Chris even helps to remind him to say the complete acronyms sometimes too. ♥️
The main reason I love ACI is both the dramatization of the crash itself (and leading up to it), but the actual crash animation and graphics. They're never gory, but they show (as close as they can) how the airplane came apart. Like the Air Florida 90 vid.
I think I *LOVE* this animation style! Totally suits Gus and Chris and the visuals are very helpful for depicting the technical info. Gotta check this out now.
Wow, this was an incredibly concise rundown on a plane crash, I actually felt like I understood everything (Well, I mean if Chris can anyone can.) You can tell how much Gus digs this stuff and the animation was technical and informative too.
2:22 "Instrurment Landing System"
Thank god someone else saw that
Good job, I'm in aviation and often see videos and other media where they just get alot wrong but clearly gus has done enough research to have a pretty good understanding of his topic. I'm not familiar with the specific type of autopilot in use but aside from that I'd say this is all pretty close to spot on. 1800fpm is a bit fast but certainly something that can be managed to allow you to get back to a normal profile, the master caution is kinda something that tells you "this might become a problem if you don't sort it out" but often when it comes on things can be brought back to normal. It's unfortunate that they weren't as aware of their pitch attitude and speed as they could have been, perhaps they fixated a bit on the unusual descent.
👍👍
I feel like this episode ended before the full conclusion of the story.
It didn’t end well… Asiana 214 is the flight being discussed.
There isn’t a lot more to it really, they remained low and slow until they landed short of the runway with the trail striking the sea wall.
It did! It's just a clip of a larger episode of their podcast
there is something called getting slam dunked, but there is no such thing as a slam dunk landing... if there was such a thing it would be unsafe and we wouldn't do it. Getting slam dunked just means you have to get down fast, I have done it many times and its not a big deal. I have flown in and out of SFO many times in a 747.
^ this guy knows
Yo Kelsey(?) This podcast got me interested In aviation which then led me to finding your channel!
This podcast is based in TX. Any chance we'll get a 74 Gear/ BBD collaboration someday? There's so much learning potential for all the listeners!
Worth mentioning that Gus has been putting many hours in a Cessna to get his PPL since this episode and has learned a lot.
ended way too soon :(
Awesome, but the ending was kinda missing xD
I love the animated bits. I've listened to the show since the beginning, and this type of visual aid is exactly what I've been missing.
love the style of this! graphics really help explain the more technical things
This is the perfect form to watch these to really understand what is going on if you have trouble with the visualization or plane jargon
This is awesome!! I listen to Black Box down all the time so to see it animated is like 😍😍😍😍
the explanation was easy to follow even if you don't know a lot about flying, the information was succinct and clearly well-researched, and the animation was a great visual to understand what was going on! Well done.
I thought you were gonna talk about the 5 signs of a plane crash, you know
1: no wings
2: all burned up
3: passengers outside of plane
4: ???
5: ????
I didn't realize I was so interested in aviation until listening to Black Box Down. Excellent job with the podcast gentlemen.
, do more aviation vids lol Refreshing to hear this
I’m actually a student trying to become a aircraft mechanic
I hope you are listning to Black Box Down
That was really well animated, great job RT!
So educational! A very refreshing change! Does Gus have a pilot's license? He was very eloquent in his explanation.
He's taking classes since a couple months back, but when they started the podcast he wasn't, and made very clear that he's just an enthusiast about this kind of stuff and not a professional.
@@miauchanto Correct, I have been an enthusiast for years and just recently started the process of getting a private pilot license
@@gustavosorola9098 Hope to hear more episodes of how your training is going, the first was great!
@@gustavosorola9098 hey, it's the dude
That was fantastic! Good visuals really helps us understand when we can see every little detail
I'm an Ame and this is some of the most detailed aircraft content I have ever seen aside from a select fiew specified aviation channels you guys rock!
For a complex topic Gus really explained this well to a layman
Wow! Incredibly informative and visually interesting, shoutout to the Gus and Chris for this great podcast and big kudos to the animators and producers of this video. Really well done.
Awesome podcast and great work on the animations 👍
Love BBD and want to see more of these animated clips.
That actually taught me a lot! I would like to see more!
Very well done! Could really tell you worked with the animation team to get all of the specs right. Would love to see a full series of previous podcasts in this style
yeah, the details are all really good and accurate stylizations (AutoPIlot Controls, Pedestal Controls, even the ILS antennae), with the exception of the runway markings @ 0:37, which has fallen victim the trope of just putting dashed lines all over the place. They could have gotten away with just a set of piano keys (longish thin stripes that run parallel to the runway) at the threshold and a centerline, instead they got this weird road looking thing cutting perpendicular across the threshold. Not too bad since that's my only complaint besides the kinda abrupt ending
All those years ago I remember Gus telling Bernie about black box recordings haha
This was awesome! super interesting! I hope to see more!
As a visual learner, this rlly helped. Nice vid
Yes, finally! A black box down animation!
The visual helps a lot!
This was great, such a great idea
As a military pilot, this is awesome to see the amount of detail in an animation covering getting too low and slow on final. I've listened to black box down for sometime now and really enjoy seeing the scenarios brought to visuals. Definitely a great learning tool for flight instructors to use as teaching aids.
This is amazing, I love the podcast but I would highly enjoy seeing a full length animated version of the show
Watched because Gus, but everything else was great too! very enjoyable new show, looking forward to more
I love bbd but sometimes I lose the thread of the explanation...this is an excellent visual aid thank you
I don't care about aerial mishaps, accidents or crashes in any way. But watching these animations are so informative and well explained that I just cannot help but binge them!
Oh geeze, I can only imagined what happened! A half mile out, 128 feet above their target level and descending at about 1800 feet per minute! Must have crash landed inside of 15 seconds...
I love this so much!!!!
As an aviation nerd and a Roosterteeth fan, this content is specifically appealing to me
Ooo i hope we get more of these videos
The best podcast!
This is very interesting
BBD has been the best RT content in years
Awesome!!
ending seems kind of obvious but seems like the video sort of cuts off the story a little too soon
I really need to catch more Black Box Down
wow, wt-heck. Didn't know Gus knows planes?! Totally subbing to blackbox!!!
any chance of the grey 'achieve' shirts coming back to the store?
This makes everything so much easier to understand 😭
SOO good, please keep making these, there are SO few examples of well funded aviation media. Basically that show "The Aviators" and that's it...
a US viewer: interesting!
THE REST OF THE WORLD WHO USES METRIC SYSTEM: .. i didn't understand a word.
Does aviation us metric in other countries? I believe English is the standardized language for aviation so I would be surprised if they have a standardized measurement for flying too
@@Woodshadow no one said anything about language, but measurements units are a different story altogether.
1 knot (kt) is equal to about 1.85 kilometers (km)
@@danielpopp1526 Absolutely NOT. 1 Nautical Mile is equal to 1.852 km. You cannot convert km to knots. You cannot convert nautical miles to knots. You cannot convert inches to knots. You cannot convert meters to knots.
Knots are not a distance unit. Knots are a SPEED unit. Specifically, they are Nautical Miles per Hour.
"Knots" is NOT a shortening of Nautical Miles.
@@schwig44 lol buddy drop the attitude. Sincerely, an airline pilot.
I love you gus
BBD has become my go-to podcast to listen while I'm modding and I'm not gonna lie.. i stopped working to go find and listen to this entire episode.Im a visual person so this was great.
Other places with slam dunk approaches: Bagram Airbase, Creech AFB, and sometimes Djibouti Ambouli airport. Fun times...ish.
They don't even include a link in the doobly doo
Audience feedback: I love Black Box Down, and I have never skipped an episode
How can you see the light if you are looking at the sky?
I really like the Hanna-Barbara /older style of animation!
That was great, love seeing Chris with the flight manual.
Maybe i'll give 2D animation a try at some point but trying 3D for now with rwby style fight animations! (posted a test of that on my channel... shamleess self-promotion lol)
This animed is so cool
We never got to the end of it in this video but since this is from Black Box Down but I assume the plane didnt make it?
Plane I think was a loss and it was two fatalitys as well. Two chinese girls that became ejected from the airplane due to the crash homever they could have survived if they had used thier seatbelts
So is a Gus like in a Catch if you can scenario? Where he never went to pilots school but hes riden on planes so much that he's learned on site?
Wheres part 2!?!?
Now I'm going to watch bbd
The only problem I have with this video is that the graphic for the angle of attack says it increased from 2 to 7 degrees, yet the graphic itself was showing 25-30 degrees of pitch viewed from the side.
Fascinating. Why don't they just turn autopilot off when landing?
ALSO, why don't we get the end of the story on the Black Box Down channel?
1:04 does this remind you of anything
Pronounced “PAAP EEE”. A saying for pilots is, “all red, you’re dead”
I don’t understand this, as someone who flies small general aviation airplanes, why not just disconnect the autopilot and push the nose down and add power as needed?
Chop and drop!
what? i sit threw all of that and i dont get to hear/see the ending?
Look up Asiana flight 214 crash at SFO for the full story.
Just listen to Black Box Down
@@Groza_Dallocort It would be helpful if they would include a link to the actual episode this is from though.
@@NicolaiAAA yeah I have to agree on that point
what? what about the rest of this story? there's no video on it in the linked channel....
the link will send you to their audio podcast. this is just a visual aid for the incident being talked about on this episode.
@@NubianPrincess14 can you link the exact episode? because I couldn't see it
@@fillman86 asiana airlines 214
@@scj6693 that episode doesn't exist on the black box down youtube channel (I only just got around to checking this out)
@@fillman86 I don’t think the episode is on their youtube channel since it’s a few months old but you could probably find it on apple podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts
My question is - as the pilot, how do you not notice that your nose is pitched too high? I assume there are indicators telling you this information or you just feel like something isn't quite right....I dunno. Weird.
OK, everyone here all saying this is amazing, really amazing. Yeah it’s amazing, but what is this? It cut off before the crash in to the seawall. So is this like a teaser to go watch the full show or a snippet? I’m so confused.
2:21 “INSTRURMENT”?
Anyone from the 74 gear here? :D
Casey is good people
Was this about the Crash that happened like in the early 2010’s
Yeah, Asiana Airlines Flight 214 that crashed at San Francisco Int. Airport.
Hello to those who care!
hi
Far more serious RT animation
So this is a story explaining how a crash happened, which is cut off and ends before finishing explaining how the crash happened? 10/10 logic there guys.
Just listen to the podcast
@@Groza_Dallocort which one?
@@fillman86 Black Box Down episode Crashing Into A Seawall released at May 27 2021
@@Groza_Dallocort maybe it's region locked, because I can't find that on the linked black box down youtube channel
YES P.A.P.I
Honestly I have no interest in the subject but only watching this through because Gus is the one explaining it
Good video but the "freedom units" for measures got me really confused...
Commercial aviation around the world uses knots and feet, the exception being Russia I think. I fly from Europe so I'm well used to the metric system, but I'd find it confusing in aviation. It's all about frame of reference.
🛩🛩🛩
Can you please unprivate the season4 camp camp please i really love it but if dont want to its ok 😊 even tho youre not going to see thus comment.. I really love camp camp..
Animation style and explanation is great, but we got blue ballsed at the end. I know they want people to listen to the whole episode, but it's not very satisfying.
Literally ALL that pilots fault tho no? He had lots of time to correct what the auto pilot
They forgot to turn off the auto-pilot?!
okay
I clicked on this expecting something video game related and fun. Since when is rt about rubber necking deadly plane crashes? seriously wtf? This is really dark and does not fit at all with the rest of the channel.
This is a visual guide for Gus and Chris' podcast Black Box Down. If you are interested in anything aviation related, I def recommend
