I don’t know why but this is one of my favorite videos... just ordered the LP 100 today. Keep up the good work and hopefully someday will make contact on 20m/17m 👍👍👍
P.S although it is very fashionable to knock MFJ their 826B is a handy little peak-reading meter if calibrated carefully. Unfortunately one of the reviews on Eham concluded it was inaccurate because their 100w rig was peaking at 130w.....
If someone tells me that they are running x amount of Watts, I reply and tell them that I'm running so many amount of Vodkas.🤣 It confuses them everytime!😋
Glad you ok I'm seeing this 4 years later was looking for the video on the automatic tuner you showed at the end of the video you said that it attaches to the tower it probably was crap and did not work and that why no video but was just wondering on what it is and how it worked thanks Charles
Yes and someone is still selling that kind of garbage. I just put up on the fence a modified Hustler 4btv. Your question would make a good video. The garbage tuner attached to another vertical compared to the 40, 20, 15 and 10 meter vertical. Thanks for the idea. 73, Jim
I have 6 Bird thrulines, only one with the PEP module. Generally they are pretty consistent with each other which helps inspire some confidence although they might all be wrong! For my work I use an IFR 2945, interestingly the one I rejected showed a patch lead to have 2dB of gain when the output port was patched to the input port. Probably had a damaged attenuator, though I obviously missed a trick, I could have made myself rich selling patch leads with gain on Ebay.. with photographic proof!
Hello Jim , thank you for all amazing video and information , i have qui. Please , I bought mfj 874 swr Meter but is come with cal ! What is this mean ? Tu
On Tuesday, November 2nd I was taken by ambulance to the local hospital with severe shortness of breath. A blood test in the Emergency Room showed my D-Dimer score of 12,281. A D-Dimer of over 500 is considered high. My oxygen level was about 82%. A CT scan showed I had a bilateral pulmonary embolism with almost total blockage. I was close to dying. A powerful blood thinning medication was injected many times over the next 5 days. I am on oxygen. I must use a walker. Treatment is 6 months. I will be uploading a video about Pulmonary Embolism soon. 73, Jim W6LG
I'm so sorry to hear this, my mother went through what you're going through and for people who love life it's so very hard. Jim I just wish you the best and the ability to go on educating us......best thing any of us can hope to do is pass on what we've learned to the next generation who will appreciate it.
It is okay. Keep in mind that as far as peak reading goes, all devices with meter movements suffer from damping. they are not accurate or reliable. For key down readings, it is good. Just calibrate it with a good device. If you can borrow a Bird Wattmeter, that would be good. 73, Jim
The term whiskey came from people probably wanting to say the watts without "Saying the watts" so they could be a bit more power than legally allowed. That's my guess on where it came from! I only say Watts, that's the only way.
Jim, Enjoyed the videos and have subscribed. How about a video on your shack. I notice three monitors. Are there three computers or one computer with the monitors connected to your graphics card? WB3BJU
+Donald D'Egidio Hi Don, There are 2 computers that I moved from my business to the ham desk as they became too old to do PhotoShop. The third monitor is a really cool RTL.SDR connected to the IF of the K3 on the right through a computer. I have a second RTL.SDR connected to the other K3. SDR's are about $60 and a great tool for working DX. There are 3 rotator controls for the 3 little towers that I have. Two towers are 40 feet and one is 50 feet. Since I am on the top of the mountain, the antennas do not need to be as high as if they were on flat ground. Besides the Elecraft K3's, there is also a P3 panadapter, KPA500 amplifier and KAT500 tuner. 73 de W6LG
I run cattle, not watts. When I key-up I use something totally different.....Kilowatts.....LOL ok, that wasn't funny..... I actually use Telewave meters and I have a video of same :-) NB : You can always test max output by switching to RTTY.
I know nothing about this topic and still found it totally understandable and enlightening.
The LP-100A is one great bit of kit . If you are after one good watt meter then go & get one today .
I don’t know why but this is one of my favorite videos... just ordered the LP 100 today.

Glad you enjoy it! I am on 20 meters a lot and will soon add a 15 meter element to my homemade beam antenna. Thanks! 73, Jim
If all the meters give different readings, and none of them agree with the radio, how do you know if any one of them is right?

So after all is said and done how do you know for a fact that the amp is actually outputting 500w?

It's really help those who just stated
Thanks Jim WGLG cute reference to Watts. I remember the Bird watt meters in the Army. I have forgot most of what I learned so your content is great.
This was an eye-opener.

You are missing the best Vector Power Meter, the MicroHam Smurf!

Any thoughts or comments on the Autek WM-1?

I am surprised at the variance of the meters

Thank Sam. Another one that bugs me is hihi on phone. It's okay to laugh!
Funny parts in this one. On the subject of communication our US friends could start pronouncing Sol der ing correctly. What the he'll is Soddering?
Sol der ing sounds too much like “soldiering” as in what soldiers do.
