    “There are two wolves inside you. One is evil. It is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on inside you-and inside every other person, too. The one that wins is the one you feed.” ~

    I pray you can recover from this. I suffered a neurological pain that floats around different places of my body after having open heart surgery. Doctors know about it but have no cure...
    Lately I've been noticing I'm having trouble holding on to my guitar pick. I drop things all the time and I have to focus when carrying items.
    Good luck with your search for a cure!

    I do have focal dystonia for 15 years now! I do music as a hobby, but without it, it maybe could have become even more. However I still play, changes my style, focused on writing songs and started to experiment with different genres and playing techniques which smothered my symptoms. The journey ain't over yet...

    I also have focal dystonia (I play the cornet). Dystonia is indeed not a body problem. It's a brain problem, caused by stressful life events. Also by fear of your symptoms and the daily focus on them. Your body is totally fine. You can practice 24 hours a day, but that wil make it worse. You must as you said address the root cause of the problem and the cause and solution lie in the brain. See the work of Ruth Chiles (The Focal Dystonia Cure) and Dan Buglio (Pain Free You). Also many publications about TMS. Focal dystonia is a form of TMS. Treating the body wil not help you, because your body is not the problem. Thank you for sharing your story and I wish you the best. There is a way out, but it’s not easy. It’s all about your mindset and creating a new relationship with your symptoms.

      Thank you again, and I wish my best for you too

    Hey man, you should check Julian Lage interview with Rick Beato he talks about how he managed to recover from his left hand dystonia and what a phenomenal player.
    I've got dystonia but it is in my right (picking) hand. The best thing I've done is practice extremely slow, that's the only thing I've seen progress with. I'm now able to play chords slowly and without any tension. I'm practicing this on single lines but I'm not there yet.
    There is hope, there are a lot of musicians that recovered from it but they all say it takes a long time and extreme discipline to not try to play like before, no noodling what so ever otherwise you're reinforcing the old dystonic pathways.
    I'm wishing you all the best, I don't know where you're living but if you can try to work with a physical therapist that knows musicians posture and has experience with dystonia that's really great. For anyone really, whether we have dystonia or not actually but hey we all tends to ignore that 😂
    Hope you have some improvements fast ! 😊

    I can relate to your troubles, as a multi instrument player, I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis since I was 40, now I’m 59 and the pain has increased up to a level that I need plenty of painkillers to play for more that 30 minutes. I used to love playing live but now I mostly compose and record music, short sessions to avoid the pain. My problem has no solution, I hope you will find a cure or a relief for yours. All my good vibrations and prayers.

    Debes comenzar a beber agua con limón, sal y bicarbonato diario, yo estaba empezando con problemas en mi brazo derecho se sentía Horrible los choques eléctricos en mi antebrazo, debes dejar de comer azúcar, y harinas, todo alimento que sea procesado, estrictamente retirar esa alimentación, y empezar una dieta Cetogenica, llena de carnes. Así vas a poder contrarrestar los problemas eléctricos neurológicos en tu cuerpo. Yo evité muchos problemas con este consejo que te doy, y lo que si te puedo decir es que las medicinas farmacéuticas solo sirven para aliviar el problema no para erradicarlo. Espero puedas aplicar mi consejo de experiencia propia y puedas comentarme en algún futuro, saludos desde Ecuador.

    Hey Andrew, I've been suffering with this condition since September 2013. I still can't play like before but I've started getting some improved results basically by conciously dropping as much tension as possible and playing with smaller movements. Even if I'm playing relaxed I try to relax even more by focusing on playing as relaxed as possible. Even if I feel im relaxed I try to drop even more tension and play even looser. It takes a HUGE amount of mental focus and the dystonic movements still happen but they are less than before and I end up managing to play for longer periods of time. However this takes a lot of concentration and focus. Sometimes the dystonia kicks off hardcore and I need to put the instrument down but overall it works better than the previous way of playing, basically the old neural pathways are burned out and ******. But this new approach looks quite promising. Have you tried it? Focusing on relaxing the shoulders and arms also helps and ive switched the guitar to the classical guitar position. That also really helps. It looks like I got dystonia from years of bad posture, slouching over the guitar and playing with tension and my body just gave up and now I have to play in a more relaxed state.

    • @Andrew-Roz
      @Andrew-Roz  Месяц назад

      Thank you for sharing your story, I really feel the same way. I didn’t noticed how bad my posture was and how much tension I was having while I played the guitar. I also feel reducing the tension as much as possible makes it better and also gives me hope, as you said, it’s hard! And it takes so much mental effort cause you’re brain is trying all the time to go back to “the normal way” 😖😖😖 it’s not easy to retrain your brain when your symptoms are being triggered all the time, bu I believe and I will keep working on getting more relaxed and aware of my body every time I play. I’m sending you all my best wishes for your recovery I believe it’s possible. Thank you again.

    This sounds oddly like me, except in my case I have been drawing for almost nine years now. The first traces I do with my pen are okay, but after four of them my hand starts tensing and my pinky completely curl in, the pain extends up to my elbow then and my arm keeps twitching

    • @Andrew-Roz
      @Andrew-Roz  Месяц назад

      Im truly sorry to hear that 😖 I share your experience and frustration, I’m not an expert but it seems your case is what they call “writer’ s cramp” I really believe there’s a way out of this, for me it’s helping to be aware of the tension while I’m playing and do it really slow, but I strongly encourage you to find help with a therapist or a neurologist, perhaps the Botox injections make the symptoms less intense,

      Hello! I completely understand-it's such a complex process. I've had to stop and restart my sessions many times because of anxiety and mental struggles related to FD. I’ve noticed that practicing consciously and slowly helps, even if it takes a lot of effort and time. It’s frustrating not to see immediate progress, but I’m staying determined and doing my best. Keep believing in yourself and working on your sessions-you’ve got this! I’ll keep working on mine too.
