Simplest and Most Useful Part of my Fur Shed!

- Thought I should break this part of my fur shed down for y'all a little more in depth. I absolutely love this rack I built and it is so useful in many different aspects of fur handling.
I like that setup. I’d probably add screws on bottom of 2x4 to set beaver boards about 3 inches apart from each other vertically. They can also be stored under the rack if needed… but I do like it as is as well..
Two years ago I added screws exactly like you are talking about for beaver boards and it works great!
More surface for the heat to thaw it out
More of the frozen raccoon is exposed to the air.
If its on the floor, the floor itself absorbs whatever heat/cold something is giveing off and bounces it back to it, basicly the insulative powers of the floor are doing its thing but the coon is cold so the floor is accualy keeping it cool. However if you hang it there is nothing to insulate and bounce the cold back into it, plus the air arround it is warmer since cold air in general stays close the floor whilst the warm air rises to the top/roof which also gives the coon a constant flow of warm air, you could also argue that as the coon is thawing and streching out due to gravety its increaseing its surface area which in term help in faster heat dissipation.

I've worked for a fur buyer before and I have had my fair share of rotten animals when the stomach started turning green it better be put up fast before it slips
What are the dimensions of your fur shed?

The racoon thaws faster because concrete is still an insulating media and has an R value. When air is allowed to get to all sides of the racoon the air gets to pull all the cold out of the carcass in an even, and faster, manner. If you put a fan directly on the frozen hanging animals they will thaw even faster. I know there is probably a scientific principle for it but eh, I know it works and how to use it.

@@nextgentrapper1000 I had to look it up as I used to know it in high school. Old age gets the memory at times. It's call the Second law of thermodynamics. Basically heat and cold try to meet and match each other so the heat or cold comes out of an object until it meets the ambient, ie matching, temp. The more surface area exposed the faster that happens. It's like a heat sink for computer chips, where they are trying to dissipate the heat as fast as possible. Yeah probably more than you need to know, but...

What thickness of osb are you using for your beaver boards? You you like it better than plywood?
I use 3/4 inch OSB. I started off with plywood ones but the nails seem to go in a lot better in the OSB then they do plywood.
what are the actual measurements besides being 50" high? Thanks!!
Mine is 3 feet out from the wall and five feet long. I don’t remember the exact measurements on how far apart I put the screws but it can be made in any size you need bud!
