isnt vermintide suposed to be furing the end times of the old world? i think that this is a bit more than just skavens working togheter with other people to just incade the empire...
Never would have thought I’d see Marco react to a warhammer OST. Jesper Kyd is a GOATED game composer, and he’s working on another game by the same developers of vermintide-Darktide which is set in the warhammer 40k universe instead of the warhammer fantasy verse. From what I’ve seen of darktide OST it seems to be as good or better than vermintide OST. Hopefully when that comes out we can see an analysis of that hahaha? Keep up the good work!
The little clicks from the strings is a technique called Col Legno, where instead of using the hairs on the bow string, they tap the wood of the bow on the string to make sound. It’s a cool little thing I used in high school for some pieces.
This series is very unique to me because it goes out of its way to show you that the Ubersreik Five, the protagonists of the story, are awful AWFUL people who hate each other and only stick together because the situation demands it. Kruber and Saltzpyre have a business relationship as mercenary and employer but Sienna and Saltzpyre are natural enemies as witch and witch hunter, likewise with Bardin and Kerillian with their dwarf/elf hatred. They've all got dark secrets that they don't want the others to know about, dark thoughts that keep them awake at night. How the elf counts every kill in the hopes that she can even out the innocent lives she took with her mistake. How the mercenary wonders if selling his party out to the enemy and running away would be a better option. They are an incredibly dysfunctional group, but over time they begrudgingly work together as a cohesive unit and the chemistry/banter is second to none. No game comes close.
This soundtrack really works wonders at instilling tension and panic during gameplay. The trailer for the spiritual successor Darktide also promises more bangers from Jesper Kyd.
"Yes-yes! Man-thing, you know-see us-we! We steal-take and stab-kill furless no-tails! All things for great horned rat! For council of thirteen! Ring the bell! Kill-eat man-things! All things belong to skaven!" The character of it aside, as both a musician and actor myself, I can say I fully understand and appreciate the way you're 'getting into it'. The game itself really does it's best to set the ambiance, using dynamic music signals to let players know what's about to happen, to say nothing of the visuals. It's basically Warhammer Fantasy Left4Dead, but not so stale and overdone as 'zombies' in terms of setting, especially since the skaven themselves have personality to them.
If you enjoyed This track, another Warhammer Soundtrack to take a look at would definitely be Mechanicus. its set in the futuristic version of this setting, and the main track "Children of the Omnissiah" Mixes synth, Choral vocals, and a pipe organ. I highly recommend it, and I love your content!
"What can be said then of the culture and society of the Ratman, given their psychology of total self-interest and constant hunger? In short, the Skaven life is one of constant warfare. Just as they constantly rise against Men and Dwarfs to seek their basic needs for food and space, they also constantly fight amongst themselves to ensure the greatest access and control over these resources. In the Skaven world, not unlike our own, the strongest eats the best portion, and every other rat plots to take that place for himself."
You nailed it so hard! As someone else already wrote it is end of times by gods deciding to blow up the world basically. Highly recommend to check trailer itself. Also, may I suggest to you to listen to the Kindred from league of legends theme? I have a feeling that you will like it a lot. Thank you for videos!
I felt something similar at the start of the music. In one time the clock warn for the lack of times and something rempant like a slow disturbing and dangerous succession of bad event that just anonce the end of time... After with the choir and the trumpet like a udge and terrible detonation of pure violence and chaos with after a brief moment of peace before another storm that was intence. This song just tell a story the last story of course.
This is actually the theme for Vermintide 1. Would you make a video of the second game's theme? It's more... bombastic I'd say. LOVE your analyses so far though on everything Warhammer related, it's incredible how you hit the nail on the head of the intent of them PERFECTLY just from the sound!
I felt like you were about to transform into a skaven at one point! I love how deeply you seem to feel the music. Also, as an avid Warhammer fan I must say that I strongly approve of this video. The skaven are one of those things that look really weird and a bit humorous from an out-of-universe perspective. Mad-scientist ratmen? Ridiculous. And also some of them are ninjas. I mean, one of their warmachines is called a doomwheel. Imagine a giant hamster wheel but with energy cannons strapped on. Pretty silly, right? Well, for the poor bastards in the battle line that have to stand firm as these things charge towards them it really is no laughing matter.
Listening to this and the tense nature of it also reminds me of the dragon age inquisition soundtrack by trevor morris. While it has some more heroic parts where the emphasis is placed on hope and emerging victorious after a fierce battle, a good few of the tracks from the basegame and the expansions alike, especially when the 'fade' is concerned usually are very creepy and feel threatening... a place where spirits and demons reside and everything is twisted and warped, things not like they seem to be. 'Lord seeker' reflects this and you can feel bits seep into other songs like 'The wrath of heaven' which plays early on in the game and is a good representation for the overall mood and tone of it. But there are certainly other tracks which may catch your attention like the main theme from trespasser or the vocal track that plays on the journey to skyhold, to something more battle orientated like 'alexius'.
I really appreciate your attention to the soundtrack of the game, as a dedicated gamer from 2000, I really like it when people see art in "children's toys". I also suddenly remembered the noteworthy soundtrack for the game Vampyr: - Blood - Life is Circus - Twisted Tango - Incane Family
I feel like the one piece of context that would've made you enjoy this even more is if you knew this plays when you're the last man standing on the team. That, plus it's the leitmotif of the Vermintide games, so it mixes this sense of despair with the grand heroism of you possibly surviving and rescuing your team from the brink.
The fact that you got this voracity and visceral aggression and desire to end life from this is great, seeing how we're fighting hordes of savage rat-men that literally want to end the world.
I would love for you to react to a song called "Scorching Winds" from an indy game called "Kenshi". I wager you'd be able to identify the central theme of the game without even looking at the screen.
It's interesting how close you get to the context of the setting. The End-Times was a story arc the owners of Warhammer implemented to - quite literally - bring their fantasy universe to an end (40k was selling better). The story ramped up to 11 with how the global threats escalated beyond comprehension. The skaven - a disjointed race that outnumbered all other living things - was held back from world conquest because they were too craven and conniving to stop backstabbing each other. In the End-Times, their god himself appeared and told them to unite for the Great Ascendency, the prophesized day that the Children Of The Horned Rat would take over the surface world. Chaos, the cosmic force of humans and demons that embodied cosmic forces that could end civilization, united behind the Everchosen - a champion of all the Chaos Gods gifted by *all* of them to bring ruination to the world. A warhost unlike any had ever seen marched upon the lands of men, from the north with the very gods meddling with the outcomes of battles. Whole cities were razed at the hands of the warhost, while others were brought to festering ruin at the hands of the champions of the god of disease. The first necromancer Nagash returned from his lengthy death, leading a host of immortal undead from the south. The greenskins - a species whose existence was centered entirely on violence - gathered into their own massive army (a great waaaagh). Legends among men were corrupted by power, succumbing to dark influence. The gods of order grew mostly silent, their power a mere shadow compared to the chaos gods. The Lizardmen - an ancient race that existed since humanity were still tribal cavemen - were descended upon by a verminous horde of skaven so extreme they built siege ladders from the corpses of their trampled brethren. The rats in their madness *nuked the moon* and nearly caused doomsday there when the shards of the moon turned to meteors, with only a self-sacrificing act of magic outpaced only by the gods themselves being enough to spare the rest of the world for the moment. The elves had been in a long decline after millennia of war, internal conflict, and the shattering of their species into 3 cultures (High elf, dark elf, wood elf, etc). They were united in the last moments in a move nobody liked, where the lord of the Dark Elves became the sole ruler/leader of elvenkind. The dwarves were besieged from above by greenskins and from below by skaven, their mountain homes being subjected to wars of attrition and chemical warfare that demonstrated the flaws of isolationism. And in the dying moments of the world, when the fate of all hanged in the balance, the final straw for all of life on the planet... a simple, cold-hearted betrayal, one man putting the knife literally into one of the last champions of order - and proverbially/metaphorically into the franchise itself as the world ceased to exist. I think you can hear the magnitude of that grim reality - and the fate of the world - in this music. The moments of relief are brief, punctuated by the knowledge that you'll only have won the battle, not the war. Not even the gods themselves could stand up against the coming end of the world... But these characters? The Ubersreik Five you play as in Vermintide? They stand defiant all the same, and in their defiance they show the unity of purpose - that harmony - triumphs over even the most dire of odds.
Vermintide, as an actual event of Warhammer Fantasy, is literally one of the main chapter of a bigger event that's called Endtime. It's the unification of damnation, unholiness, and darkness of the force of Chaos. The main theme really captured how would it feel to be surrounded by a giant horde of ravenous ratmen, ready to eat you alive, or just stabs you to death, or tosses you into the pit for slavery.
It really is the End Times because the world Vermintide 2 takes place in (In the Warhammer Fantasy setting) pretty much gets destroyed a short time after the Vermin Tide - setting the cards for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar.
A bit late reply, but I always took the themes in this as the creepy parts being the ratmen, skaven who have now teamed up with the actual end times threat of chaos, basically demon worshipping people from north taking the more bombastic drops.
Just picked up this game and you know what? I have never noticed this music because I was so busy trying not to die while my allies cry to rescue them.
Definitely need to tell you that Warhammer has two settings: the future of our galaxy in the year 40000, and a dark fantasy realm (the original). This soundtrack is from the fantasy setting. One thing I love about vermintide's music is that all of it sounds like it's made BY the antagonists rather than for them. The skaven themed soundtracks sound discordant with scratchy strings and steel drums, as if the skaven are playing it on crude instruments, especially since a lot of their technology is sinister but crude and just as likely to harm skaven as it is to harm their enemies. It suits their personalities of being mad scientists but also hiding in the dark, waiting to flood the surface world and consume everyone. The Norsca focused soundtracks have a lot of war horns and tribal drumming, which fits their 'barbarian horde worshipping dark gods' personality
With all honesty, there is track in Vermintide 2 that is a spin of this piece, but warps it into a desperate heroism. It only plays when you're the last player alive in a mission. It's titled Vermintide 2 Unreleased OST - Last Hero Standing You should look it up, and possibly comment on it too.
You know what, you should add “OST Just Cause 3 - Main Theme” to your list. JC3’s OST is really heroic and has massive one man army vibes, and its an amazing freaking game. Good day
a soundtrack i can recommend is the soundtrack of "the flame in the flood", especially the the title song. It is a wonderful soundtrack of the best country i heard, and i didn't like country before i heard this ost. But it fits so beautifully.
Sticking to Warhammer games, I'd absolutely recommend some tracks from the Total War Warhammer series, in particular I'd say you'd want to hear the Main Theme from the first game 'Faith, Steel, & Gunpowder' though thats a short one, but most definitely you'll want to listen to 'Dragonflame' from the second game. I'd recommend listening to the 'dynamic' version of that track.
don't think i've heard any tracks from vermintide alone, all the time i've been hearing it have been while playing it. The gameplay is fine, but what really sells the game to me is the interactions between the 5 Heroes. They really made a good pick for each of those imo

Why not! :)
It was released yesterday on Fatsharks RUclips channel. Go listen, but be warned, you won't be doing much for about 2 hours!!
@@Korfax124 maybe we can listen to it together in the next few weeks?
I never really realized until now but it sounds like a ticking clock, which is fitting considering that it’s set during the end times.
The little clicks from the strings is a technique called Col Legno, where instead of using the hairs on the bow string, they tap the wood of the bow on the string to make sound. It’s a cool little thing I used in high school for some pieces.
Always love learning about more musical techniques like this.
They way you are describing music man. you are opening my eyes to music in games and how it can just be just as good as classical music
:)))))
"Yes-yes! Man-thing, you know-see us-we! We steal-take and stab-kill furless no-tails! All things for great horned rat! For council of thirteen! Ring the bell! Kill-eat man-things! All things belong to skaven!"
The character of it aside, as both a musician and actor myself, I can say I fully understand and appreciate the way you're 'getting into it'.
I like your videos Marco, always insightful.
It started Bloodborne and turned into DS3. Very nasty and evil. I liked it.
Local man corrupted by skaven tubas, releases the great horned rat upon humanity.
Honestly love some of the soundtracks in the warhammer universes/series, you would love some of the pieces from it I'm sure of it
Listening to end times and the queen just died, truly dark days are ahead of us.
To this day, the troll boss theme gives me CHILLS every single time and is the most iconic to me.
First time I've heard this ost! I really like the concept of the Skaven and this hits so hard on point for them!
Worth noting it's not just the Skaven in this game that you're fighting it's also the rot blood Barbarians from the north.
Oh I know! I remembered watching my friends play through the first 1! After the fact
Kindred will be out in a few weeks or month I’d say. :)
@@MarcoMeatball thank you very much!
So, I want to give you my little personal list of tracks that I consider iconic for my personal game expiration and that you still haven't covered.
Dmitry V. Silantyev - The Cosmic Balance - Wrath Of The Righteous
Dmitry V. Silantyev - Laughing till the end - Wrath Of The Righteous
Paul Romero - Main Theme - Heroes of Might and Magic V
Paul Romero - Floating Across Water - Heroes of Might and Magic IV
Jack Wall - Suicide Mission - Mass Effect 2
Jesper Kyd - Ezio's Family - Assassin's Creed 2
Hans Zimmer - Epilogue "Main Theme" - Crysis 2
Hans Zimmer - Enemy of my enemy is my friend - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
(Can't find who) - Main Menu theme - Neverwinter Nights 2
Inon Zur - Mage Pride - Dragon Age 2
Also amout Wrath Of The Righteous, Those two themes by themself bring me to hardest choice in my gaming expiriance. Yes, music. And I spend 3 days to choose between bringing absolute order and unpredictablee chaos. But for full expiriance of choice posibilities I want recomend you to listen all Mythic Paths Themes.
P.s. Yes you record videos for patreons, and I'm don't ask you to record reaction to everithing. Just check those tracks in your morning coffee time and say if you enjoy anything from list. Enjoyment from music is most important =)
I would recommend - The Skaven Come Out To Play - Jesper Kyd
Hey Marco! If you haven't played it before, check out The Dawn Will Come track from Dragon Age: Inquisition. The cutscene version of it is great!
could almost see like a dark warhammer version of disney's fantasia with this music.
Mechanicus soundtracks have already been recommended here (I will add only Dance of Cryptek).
So Dawn of War 2:
- Angels of Death
- For the Craftworld (stuck on this when choosing, too great music :D )
- Dark Calculation
- There Will Be Retribution
- There is Only War
It's quite epic.
I also suddenly remembered the noteworthy soundtrack for the game Vampyr:
- Blood
- Life is Circus
- Twisted Tango
- Incane Family
I feel like the one piece of context that would've made you enjoy this even more is if you knew this plays when you're the last man standing on the team. That, plus it's the leitmotif of the Vermintide games, so it mixes this sense of despair with the grand heroism of you possibly surviving and rescuing your team from the brink.
FOR THE GREAT HORNED RAT
For me this moment in the music ( 8:17 ) feels like the skaven returning back to their tunnels after the mayhem of their assault
The fact that you got this voracity and visceral aggression and desire to end life from this is great, seeing how we're fighting hordes of savage rat-men that literally want to end the world.
Jesper Kyd is an absolute master.
I would love for you to react to a song called "Scorching Winds" from an indy game called "Kenshi". I wager you'd be able to identify the central theme of the game without even looking at the screen.
You can-not escape-run from the Vermintide! Hrrr, yes-yes!! ❤
Nice. Lets hope for more warhammer ost around here~
It really is the End Times because the world Vermintide 2 takes place in (In the Warhammer Fantasy setting) pretty much gets destroyed a short time after the Vermin Tide - setting the cards for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar.
A bit late reply, but I always took the themes in this as the creepy parts being the ratmen, skaven who have now teamed up with the actual end times threat of chaos, basically demon worshipping people from north taking the more bombastic drops.
2:45 inner ratman activated for a while.
great game, great music,I'm looking forward to their new game Dark Tide
It's titled Vermintide 2 Unreleased OST - Last Hero Standing
You should look it up, and possibly comment on it too.
You know what, you should add “OST Just Cause 3 - Main Theme” to your list. JC3’s OST is really heroic and has massive one man army vibes, and its an amazing freaking game. Good day
Sigmar bless this ravaged ears!
a soundtrack i can recommend is the soundtrack of "the flame in the flood", especially the the title song. It is a wonderful soundtrack of the best country i heard, and i didn't like country before i heard this ost. But it fits so beautifully.
sigmar blesses you for this video
Someone needs to make a video of MarcoMeatball clips without context.
Do they…🙃
the growling would certainly add to an out of context remix.
Well if you're going Warhammer, Noosphere and Children of the Omnissiah from the 40k Mechanicus game are essentials. :)
Jesper Kyd is truly a genius
I just noticed we have the same Vocal Booth.
Love the reviews, just found you!
Hiii
@@MarcoMeatball Not familiar with you *just* yet, but I hope the dive into Voice Acting has been a successful one for you so far! Doin' my thing with some smalltime stuff for now myself (Voice acting is *the* funnest stuff), working on some updated Reels.
Excuse me while I go through a list of your videos now, lol. Hope you have a great night!
You should listen to the Soul of Cinder's theme.
who knows, it might make a throw back to a previous song you reviewed.
It’s actually coming this month
@@MarcoMeatball sweet 🔥
you gotta listen to the chaos version of the main theme, its so much more in your face aggressive
There was some music from the Gene Stealer Cult Trailer in there.
I think this game came out first though.
Oh we are doing Warhammer now ? Nice.... =)
So... I guess I'm late to the party but... Is anyone told you about the absolutly incredible Mechanicus OST ? If not, you should go check it out...
On a side note, I think you're probably my favorite video game OST rewiver currently, your passion about Warframe OST helped a lot, I'm not gonna lie... ^^
This track is from Vermintide 1 But the Vermintide 2 main theme has a similar, albeit different rendition
animosity
You should check out the opening cinematic
Mortal Kombat 3 would agree that Animality is a real word :D
You should check the main theme of the game. This is the core version but with a lot less...drama....the main theme has a lot more choir and drums and, overall, inpact.
What are you using in the background looks like a tent? Does it help with recording. Would like to know
Still play the game, still one of the best games out there!
I personally like the Vermintide2 version of this song better. It feels more epic while maintaining the crawling unsettling feeling. Nonetheless I loved hearing this version and your thoughts on it :-)
FOR THE EMPIRE
SUMMON THE ELECTOR COUNTS
Oh
wait
wrong Warhammer Fantasy game
also
Day seventy-one of recommending Stay Gold from the Arknights OST
should have a listen to the zone of the enders 2 soundtrack
its been more then a decade since i played and i still know most of the songs
You need to react to the chaos desert ones from vermentide they are brutal awesome. Expactly Norsca Invaders and Finale
you should react to the "norsca attacks" soundtrack, its quite frightening.
Can I ask for the link to the video he is reacting to? It sounds much more orchestral than what I was able to find...
Day 10 kindly asking for riven of 1000 voices
Dread it, run from it, destiny always arrives.
It’s 20 minutes long!!!!!
@@MarcoMeatball use this version ruclips.net/video/r8W6P0QCN5w/видео.html
@@MarcoMeatball The version you looked at probably also had the shell of what was, which is basically a continuation of riven theme, but that’s not necessary Although it’s still pretty great
Hold up, does the horn in the song blow 13 times!?
Don't worry about being offensive to Skaven. It's a good thing.
