This interview left me high and dry. Where were the follow-up questions? WHAT IS THE $150-$200K spent on? How is the money used to put the song on the chart? Is payola still alive and well?
Exactly! Very disappointing!
@@Loui_V7 hip hop ain't declining. It's just different sounds making the money now. Same thing happened in the 90s. People thought rap was childish and ignorant.
Okay so let me say that both people are right. The reason they disagree is because they are arguing 2 different points. #1 - The Billboard Hot 100 is different from being Top 10 at Radio. The Hot 100 calculates Radio Spins, Retail Sales and Streams. What Chingy is saying is correct for RADIO only!! The only way that a song reaches Top 10 is by paying radio stations to get you there. The song still has to be quality but 250k to 300k can get you there. What Prez is saying is true as well. There has been a quality decline in Hip Hop music. Everyone is trying to copy one another an no one cares about being unique so ALL the music is disposible. The 2nd reason that Rap music is declining is bec of the lack of MEN in Hip Hop being pushed. I know this will be unpopular to here but the Major record labels are ONLY pushing female acts right now bec the MALE rappers that Pop off usually have to have street credibility. That same Street credibility makes them a volitile investment. Think about how many MALE rappers are going thru legal trouble or end up dying. The Major labels are hedging bets when it comes to men and despite what you think, MALE Rap matters to Men and Women.
What Prez is saying is true still. There still is a lack of good music. Even if you paying to chart certain selection of songs, doesn't mean that the music is good.
I don’t know why this is hard to believe, Forbes does this too. This has always been the nature of the business especially now. People are paying for awards, slots, top spots, lies in magazines, false info/narratives on google and RUclips the list goes on. This is also why Beyoncé has yet to win album of the year, (in my opinion she’s had several) and she probably refuses to pay for one because she genuinely thinks she has one based on merit and she shouldn’t have to pay for it. You can definitely tell they’re messing with her with this whole album of the year thing. It’s a pay to play industry and world.

He's right TO AN EXTENT. Because in this generation, its not just about pushing a record from a record label. Viral songs are hits now. If your song goes viral on tiktok or social media, itll be a hit. Modern Billboard charting is determined by streams. Rolex by ayo and teo was a viral song. Gucci gang went viral. Supalonely went viral. Roxanne was viral. These were hits, but these people arent REAL artists who love this music game, that's why we have all these one hit wonders now. Their song goes viral, it's a hit, and they stop grinding.
Chingy is 1000% percent correct!! Your music can go #1 with a push of a button because the people tha run billboard can automatically put you there. The music industry is built off of connections and money!! Everything cost money from blogs posts, to playlisting, to running ads to promote your songs/videos and etc! If your signed to a label and they have the budgets to get you to the top 10 it doesn't matter if the listeners think your song is hot or not, it costs money to be on the charts and if your label can afford it to keep your songs at the top of the charts they will pay it and you can win!!
It's way deeper than that. Between getting radio play, appearances on MTV, BET, award shows, high profile interviews on popular platforms, etc. these labels are probably spending about half a mill per so-called "artist" as an investment. That's why they want the girls with next to no rapping skills with the BBL/fake boobs and gang affiliation signed to the label now.
