    After having our RadMini Step-Thru 2 power bikes for just under 6 months, the Two Tired Teachers each racked up 1,000 miles riding the most fun bikes ever.
    People stop us often to ask about the bikes. One question that is regularly asked after the inquirer discovers that we have 1,000 miles on the bikes is if the tires are the originals. They are. Each of us has had a flat on the front tire, but we patched the tube and are still using the original tires.
    Another question we are asked is if the batteries are the originals. Yes. We haven't noticed a difference in the way they charge or any diminished capacity of the batteries.
    After having the bikes for now 8 months, we enjoy them more now than we did at first. The decision to spend $1,500 each for bikes was not one we too lightly. It's a lot of money. If I had it to do again, the only thing I would change is I would have bought the bike earlier.
    Because we have the bikes, we can see more of the campgrounds and the surrounding areas. We get out and do more since we have the bikes. Riding in the Caddo National Wildlife Refuge is just one example of things we've seen because of the bikes.
    We have added few accessories to the bikes. MiLena, one of the Two Tired Teachers, has an under the seat bag that we got from Academy. Sharon, the other of the Two Tired Teachers, has a Rad rear rack and saddlebags she'd used before we got the bikes. Each of us has a mirror that attaches to the handlebar. That accessory is probably the most important one we have. We also got some gel seat covers that are washable. Those and the mirrors, we got at WalMart.
    Other than cleaning and lubing the chains on the bikes, the only other maintenance thing Sharon has done to the bikes is adjust the brakes.

    Way to go on the 1000 miles:) After a month wife and daughter have the mini and they have about 200 miles. I got a mountain ebike el cheapo model and I have 500 miles on mine. And I do not think it is a stretch to say, it has changed your life. I rode 46 miles the other day, with a bad back and bad hip. No way I could have done that without an ebike. We ride usually 10 miles a day and look for an excuse to go some where and ride. It has put me back in the game and gave us a new hobby :)

    Great video review. It’s good to see you getting out with the covid thing impacting normal life. One thought you can carry bear mace which is a little large but might help if you run into wild animals while out. You have to be careful with it and make sure the wind doesn’t blow it back if you need to use it. Some folks like urban explorers who actually go into abandoned buildings in dangerous urban cities carry bear mace. Obviously some people carry handguns as well but animals don’t know that a gun will be a threat and a wild dog might decide to attack you no matter what you have displayed. I had a pit bull run up though a abandoned house and run up to a porch with a small low fence in front of the porch and he barked at me but did not jump the fence and he cools have easily. He if he wanted would not have been deterred by seeing a handgun or bear mace. But shooting an animal would not be ideal and some might feel bad dispensing of an animal that is following its instincts. So bear mace is probably a good self defense idea for anyone out in the wild.

    Just got thru the “break in” period for our batteries. I don’t remember what Rad recommends after the three 12 hour cycles. Are you in the habit of plugging in your bikes (batteries) after each ride now that you’ve reached the 1000 miles or do you track the number of hours charging every time depending on how much battery is used each time? Any issues with humidity or rain so far? We bought covers and some heavy duty motorcycle security chains for ours for camping so hope that will be sufficient for keeping them dry and inconspicuous. Hoping we won’t always have to lift them in/out of truck as they are a bit heavy. Do you lock them up outside while at campground or stow all the time in van? We are loving the bikes as well, thanks to you ladies. Safe travels. God Bless 🇺🇸

    • @TwoTiredTeachers
      @TwoTiredTeachers  3 года назад +1

      When we're home, we usually charge after the batteries are down a tic or two. It will take maybe as much as 4 hours for them to charge. We do not track the number of miles.
      We've had no issues with humidity or rain, but they are kept in a garage, and we don't ride when it's wet.
      Ordinarily when we are camping, we keep the bikes in the van. We feel safer that way. Having said that, I will tell you that no one has ever bothered any of our stuff while we've been camping.
      Glad you are loving the bikes. After a thousand + miles, we still love ours.

      @@TwoTiredTeachers, thanks again. I’m happy to say that in >30 years camping we’ve never had any problems with anyone messing with anything on our sites either (well, except in the Keys where the raccoons broke into a cooler and siphoned most of the contents of eggs in a carton without even crushing the shells, pretty amazing). Hopefully if we keep a cover over our new bikes and chain them when not in use that stroke of good fortune will continue. Safe travels & fun riding.

      @@user-gh8sl7iu3y Glad to hear it. When we were first looking at RVs, the salesman told us that others in the campground would help us with anything we needed. He also told us that we didn't need to be afraid because a bunch of campers carry guns. I don't know that the guns part is true, but we have found campers to be more than willing to help if we get in a bind.

    Could you do a video of adjusting the brakes ? I k ow rad has one but it didn’t seem to fix the whining sound on my front wheel . I will hit the brakes , release and then it whines moving forward .

    • @TwoTiredTeachers

      I'll talk with Sharon about it. I'm not really clear on what kind of "whine" it's making. You might call Rad.

      We ordered the ones we have from eBay. I think any gel cover will make riding easier.

    Are they good for running to the grocery store?

    • @TwoTiredTeachers
      @TwoTiredTeachers  3 года назад

      Currently, we are going to the grocery only once every two weeks, so they wouldn't really work for that; however, just to pick up a few things, I think it would be doable.

      No. We took them to San Angelo to be serviced and the brake pads were fine.

    Do u think this bike would work for someone 350lbs?

    • @TwoTiredTeachers
      @TwoTiredTeachers  3 года назад +2

      The only Rad that has a payload capacity of 350 is the Rad Wagon. The Rad Runner and the Rad Runner Plus both have payload capacities of 300. Having said that, you might reach out to Rad and see what they say. I am 100% sure that people who weigh 350 + have ridden on bikes that aren't supposed to handle that weight. I'm not sure if riding when you weigh more than the recommended would do anything to the warranty.
