after 20 years since i last played this game, i still remember where the secrets are... but if you ask me what i had for lunch yesterday i wouldn't know how to answer
Yeah, basically me too. I think I have Alzheimer's sometimes, but I can remember every square inch of Fallout New Vegas. Every NPC. Every room. Every secret. Every quest and outcome.
Believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ, for Jesus God shed his pure precious blood and died for all the sins of man and womankind on the cross, buried and rose again from death 3 days later and you are now a new Born Again Christian creature born spiritually into the step family of God. True Christianity is Non denominational, 1st Peter 1:23 (Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.) (For the grace of God that brings salvation hath appeared to all men), Titus 2:11, (That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.), Titus 3:7. For we are all saved and all will go to Heaven forever by the Gospel of God in God's own faith in God’s own gospel. Good works do please God. Titus 2:7, (In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works:). Titus 2:12 (Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;) All are going to Heaven by the gospel of God: Romans 3:25, Ephesians 2:8-9, Hebrews 2:9, Titus 2:11, Titus 3:7 And 1 Corinthians 15:1-4: The King James Bible. Now Love, Thank, Praise, Bless, Exalt, Honor, Glorify, Fear, Delight, Salute, Faith Hope, Charity, Sing And Pray to God Almighty Forevermore! Praise God, Amen! www.KingJamesBibleOnline.org
I think it's because with some of those games, they allowed you to increase the game resolution past what computers at the time could handle. Don't quote me on that though
And this is what happens when you make the engine source available, people can go in and update it to have new features impossible to have at the time when it was launched, and breathe new life into it.
I'd argue that the "quakiest" of all quakes depends on perspective: Quake 1 for innovation, movement, controls and gameplay Quake 2 for story and immersion Quake 3 for multiplayer brilliance and gunplay there is no Quake 4
Every Quake is a massive disappointment to someone. No two Quakes were anything alike; so if you like the weird goth look of Quake one, you probably don't like the Strog BS that has nothing to do with Quake I. If you liked Quake II single player, you probably didn't like multiplayer only quake III. And If you liked Quake III you probably didn't like the dumbed down and nerfed Quake IV.
It's been a good while since I watched the intro, and I never really understood most of the dialogue u til now. The whole thing gives me chills. The music, the sound design, cinematography, the pacing. It's all so well done.
I had the best of both - I played the Quake 2 demo in software mode and when I got the full game I had just moved up to 3DFX. That was still THE definitive leap in graphics, if you ask me. We haven't seen an improvement that abrupt before or since.
LoudNProud Voodoo equaled COLORED LIGHTING! It's pretty insane now to think that colored lighting was a reason to upgrade, but real-time rendered colored lighting was fascinating in those times. And Texture smoothing! Hilarious how these days we go back to Software rendered Quake or use GL_NEAREST, but we bought GPUs to eliminate pixels.
From a time when FP shooters were single player first and foremost. None of the bullshit. (It's not being cynical.) N64 version was cracking, also, quite brilliant programming, successfully shoe horning this into a PS1 version as well. Peace to all Quakers everywhere. Happy blasting.
The crazy thing is, even though single-player was a top priority in FPS back then, the multiplayer is STILL unbeatable compared to modern multiplayer games that are designed from the ground up to be online competitive shooters.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Wolfenstein: New Order Wolfenstein: Old Blood, Doom 2016 … it seems like we are getting one ID tech game every year at least. And than there are others like Shadow Warrior, etc so it's not like those single player first and foremost games would be dead. It seems more like they are not selling as well to get the same marketing budget as COD. ;-)
Quake 2 was the game that made me fall in love with FPS. I remember my first lan party with my mates like it was yesterday. We laughed all night long and had great fun. LIkewise when Unreal was released, Half-life deathmatch and all the different versions of CS when it was a mod :)
Wow this brings back memories, Q2 lithium was the best deathmatch mod. A-6 dominated T2K was another awesome clan we both held the top spots on the clq forever.
I still remember. 2001, win98 se, my pcchip mb, pentium III 750Mhz. 256 MB RAM, 120GB HDD 5700rpm. And THIS PIECE OF ART. I was so damn happy and I didn’t knew it.
I've been playing this again with the quake2xp updates at 4k with low input lag p series viziotv(16ms).. in my living room with bluetooth keyboard/mouse. So fun to play and the higher res/mod fx make it look like what I remember with my voodoo2.. but of course thats what my late 90's brain remembers it looking like. Great Vid!
Simple action packed Gameplay. These Kind of Games where really great at the time. Felt awesome to rush through the Levels, always keeping the action going. The polished version looks pretty great! Good Work!
because unless you have the original CD which most people have a digital version these days, you have to have the music added in with a mod, and from what I've seen, the mods track list is based off the xbox port which is different from the original. You can change the track names to play them in the proper order if you really want.
One of the very rare occasions where a 'HD' remake actually looks really good, not a super saturated, mess with replaced models of other things and billions of reflections. This is decent! Nice! :)
Wow it looks absolutely stunning ! I'll probably get this version ! I know the lines of the intro cutscene by hard ! lol its amazing every time I realize how many hours I spent on this game. True classic !
that first level just after you get out of the elevator gave me flashbacks holy shit. i remember playing that level at 320x240 in software mode on a pentium mmx 200 mhz system!!
Every time i watch that part of the Quake 2 Cinematic 2:00 i get chillz the music was soo good at making the scene work. Id love to have heard a remix of it :D
they should have kept the blood bright as it was, seeing how it was the main hit feedback you got from enemies. Now it looked like the pistol didn't shoot anything, and missed a lot of the satisfaction in playing the game.
I need to side by side compare this with the already existing Berserker Quake II to make my assessment of which looks better. Not much of a Q2 fan though more into Quake DP SMC and Zandronum BD20b custom.
brings back a lot of memories. if only modern games were as good. quake champions needs to be more like this and quake 3. instead of trying to be overwatch.
Try Duke Nukem Forever. It came out in 2011. It is about 5 to 10$ on Steam when it is on special on Steam. It also has multiplayer mode. It also has a DLC called The Doctor Who Clones Me, which is also sweet.
Just installed this mod, and holy crap, it's amazing! I usually hate mods on older games because they just don't look right, like Doom and Heretic for instance, but this mod does not overkill it, and really brings it up to snuff with modern games. The only issue I'm having is the music plays out of order, if I try to change the settings the music stops period, and when I try to use my Quake II CD, then maps wont load.. but I can live with that. Random music is better than no music!

Absolutely - a lot of what made Quake 2 was that grungy ambience it makes me cry a little inside seeing these high res mods that completely miss the spirit of the original game. Lol heard railgun in the background. Looks cool, but i recently played the normal version, was still just as fun as it was first time. Ahh good ol' quake, the reason why i suck at CS xd
great stuff. But me personally.. i prefer the old look. It reminds me of how amazed i was at my spanking brand new voodoo graphics card when seeing the difference between software rendering and openGl for the first time in my life. I still remember that i went nuts because the blood particles were rendered as round dots instead of square. And there was texture filtering. Omg.. i can't describe to young kids nowadays how massive that improvement in graphics felt. And that i was able to run a resolution of 800x600 (wich would've been unthinkable without a voodoo card. Good times :)
20 years old intro got me hyped more than the entire E3 2017.
PizzaSamurai next gen gaming is so bad
This fcking intro is so painfully nostalgic, my brain almost collapsed.
Agreed
especially MULTIPLAYER with friends :)) Those were the days :))
I still get chills from that intro.
Mother goose, mother goose...
after 20 years since i last played this game, i still remember where the secrets are... but if you ask me what i had for lunch yesterday i wouldn't know how to answer
That's hilarious, and I know exactly what you mean. I can still tell you mega health and armor respawn times, but forget why I went into the garage.
Yeah, basically me too. I think I have Alzheimer's sometimes, but I can remember every square inch of Fallout New Vegas. Every NPC. Every room. Every secret. Every quest and outcome.
That's true, bro.
I can do e1m1 in doom with closed eyes

this was THE GAME...
Correction - this is THE GAME I still play and mod it to this day :)
Still play it. One of the best of all times
... dear gentle men and gentle women, we live in those times, when the actual game looks better than the prerendered intro ...
thank you, scripted sequences
Ha, no joke!
I think it's because with some of those games, they allowed you to increase the game resolution past what computers at the time could handle. Don't quote me on that though
Never mind, it is pretty quoteworthy, isn't it?
And this is what happens when you make the engine source available, people can go in and update it to have new features impossible to have at the time when it was launched, and breathe new life into it.
Quake 2 is the quakiest of all quakes
No, Quake 2 is the Dark souls of games
quake 3 was my thing but thats probably because its the first quake i played
Quake 1 is the nest one.
I'd argue that the "quakiest" of all quakes depends on perspective:
Quake 1 for innovation, movement, controls and gameplay
Quake 2 for story and immersion
Quake 3 for multiplayer brilliance and gunplay
there is no Quake 4

Quake II is one of my all time favorite games. Ive played this game dozens of times.
It's been a good while since I watched the intro, and I never really understood most of the dialogue u til now. The whole thing gives me chills. The music, the sound design, cinematography, the pacing. It's all so well done.
Love this game. The intro got me so pumped back in the day. Then that awesome industrial metal soundtrack was chef's kiss.
this is one of these games i play on software mode in 320x240
So did I. :)
Heathens. Quake 1 was good for that, but Quake 2 was the first game to really show off what 3DFX could do.
NewExile agree. If you didn't have a voodoo card when q2 came out, you were missing out.
Quake 2 OST is awesome - the mood it creates is contagious, it is even better on multiplayer. Arena fps genre need a comeback asap.
So much memories.... love it! And its better then most of the game this days. Thanks for the video
I remember owning this right after I got my 3DFX Card lol! Good times. Sigh - I miss the 90's.
Шикарно! Старый добрый quake2 ничем не хуже современных игр спустя столько лет.
The best thing about Q2 is that enemies may go down but they'll still take a few last potshots before actually dying.
From a time when FP shooters were single player first and foremost. None of the bullshit. (It's not being cynical.) N64 version was cracking, also, quite brilliant programming, successfully shoe horning this into a PS1 version as well. Peace to all Quakers everywhere. Happy blasting.

Time to Gib some Squibs
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Wolfenstein: New Order Wolfenstein: Old Blood, Doom 2016 … it seems like we are getting one ID tech game every year at least.

gimme hexen in IDtech5 please. hexen was easily my favorite out of all of them to play single player.
To be fair Quake pretty much invented the multiplayer FPS _and_ kickstarted the online competitive scene.
Quake 2 was the game that made me fall in love with FPS. I remember my first lan party with my mates like it was yesterday. We laughed all night long and had great fun. LIkewise when Unreal was released, Half-life deathmatch and all the different versions of CS when it was a mod :)
Recently bought quake 1 and I got used to no crouching. Forgot you could crouch in quake 2 lol
Bought!? :-D
Yeah you can buy it on Steam :D
@@Crimzan4 Or GOG. Even better
Wow does this bring back some memories Quake 2 is my favorite multiplayer I recall playing that countless days hours on end.
God i am so glad i grew up in the 90's, best years ever
How many times did I bask in the thrills of this intro as a kid? GETTING CLIPPED JUST SAVED UR ASS MARINE.
I found out about Quake XP through here. Thanks for uploading. I'm having a blast right now playing this game again with a more modern upgrade :)
This intro alongside halo 2s are two of the best
Blaster hits are broken... They dissapear way too early.
That's why I love Quake games. Don't hide, just run and shoot everything that moves.
The greatest FPS in the history of this old planet.. multiplayer RA2 was pure gold.. fuck i miss those days!
You didn't play at Nostromos RA2 servers back in the day did you?
there are still quake 2 ra2 servers up and people actually play on them a lot.
выглядит приятно, при этом соблюдая стиль и атмосферу старой игры
Wow this brings back memories, Q2 lithium was the best deathmatch mod. A-6 dominated T2K was another awesome clan we both held the top spots on the clq forever.

Very skilled use of a shotgun. This is a really fast gameplay you do. Thumbs up
Simple action packed Gameplay. These Kind of Games where really great at the time. Felt awesome to rush through the Levels, always keeping the action going. The polished version looks pretty great! Good Work!
Quake wad a breakthrough
I love playing every minute of it
Brings back memories 😢
I remember being 6 and standing behind my Dad giggling like a school girl as he installed this bad boy, good times.
One of my favorites games.
man... for past 2 weeks im just JAMMING this CD in ME DELIVERY VAN . like ... fits BAY AREA so good .
Cool but... why is it playing the wrong music for the level?
Yes its supposed to be decent to cerebreon
because unless you have the original CD which most people have a digital version these days, you have to have the music added in with a mod, and from what I've seen, the mods track list is based off the xbox port which is different from the original. You can change the track names to play them in the proper order if you really want.
Woah what's you're name dude? Τηε γθυ κνοςν ας ελιος
Who cares. Still good music.
probably the same reason why quake darkplaces had a differemt soundtrack. copywright issues
One of the very rare occasions where a 'HD' remake actually looks really good, not a super saturated, mess with replaced models of other things and billions of reflections.
This is decent! Nice! :)
i'll admit... while watching this i clicked my mouse button... and by coincidence it was exactly at the same time as a shot being fired
Man I love this soundtrack. Takes me back =)
Wow it looks absolutely stunning ! I'll probably get this version ! I know the lines of the intro cutscene by hard ! lol its amazing every time I realize how many hours I spent on this game. True classic !
I remembered when i played quake 2, 4 man deathmatch on the old ps1 with my cousins, good times :(
I wonder if John Carmack sees thing like this and just has a little smile to himself , his game engines are second to none he is a genius
that first level just after you get out of the elevator gave me flashbacks holy shit. i remember playing that level at 320x240 in software mode on a pentium mmx 200 mhz system!!
I remember playing this on the second disc of Quake 4. Memories...
the best game soundtrack ever made :)
Every time i watch that part of the Quake 2 Cinematic 2:00 i get chillz the music was soo good at making the scene work. Id love to have heard a remix of it :D
"Computer updated". I remember playing this in '97. I had a shitty computer. For a time I really thought it said "computer outdated".
This was a bloody good game back in the Voodoo2 days.
Sweet, Had so many models and skins for this back in the day.
they should have kept the blood bright as it was, seeing how it was the main hit feedback you got from enemies. Now it looked like the pistol didn't shoot anything, and missed a lot of the satisfaction in playing the game.
I like how the bosses in Quake 1 actually still are puzzles, like how the game originally would be untill they decided to make it a shooter.
Best soundtrack ever
this update looks pretty awesome. I've played through this game so many times now though. maybe I need to again just to enjoy this graphics rehaul.
the new games nowadays just doesnt have that mysterious thrilling feeling like this one have.
Strange how I still remember the map even after all those years. Ah yes, played it with my Diamond Viper graphics card 20 years ago.
fuuck its time to play all that awesome games again.... gothic, quake, unreal, halflife. did i forgot one ?
Doom and Duke Nukem 3D (:
Deus Ex, DOOM,
Hexen.Heretic,Blood, Aliens Vs Predator
Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Serious Sam, Clive Barker's Undying.
System Shock 2
Got me started on online gaming...this was the one
Remember when games had awesome rock music like this?
This game is 1000 times better than most of the modern shooters
Ahhhh sweet memories of skipping school in 3rd grade to play this all day
Somehow the intro cutscenes in older games have way better atmosphere than newest titles.
I reinstalled this recently. How far we've come. 20 years ago that cutscene blew me away.
I need to side by side compare this with the already existing Berserker Quake II to make my assessment of which looks better. Not much of a Q2 fan though more into Quake DP SMC and Zandronum BD20b custom.
That music... Quake initiated me to Metal.
I like it. New coat of paint on a old game.. just like Quake Champions.
Looks amazing and takes me back.
I remember learning the Circle Strafe - good times.
brings back a lot of memories. if only modern games were as good. quake champions needs to be more like this and quake 3. instead of trying to be overwatch.
I Love Quake 2, DOOM 2, Duke Nukem 3D and Unreal. Quake 2 is my most favorite FPS game now. 😊 💟 🎮
Try Duke Nukem Forever. It came out in 2011. It is about 5 to 10$ on Steam when it is on special on Steam. It also has multiplayer mode. It also has a DLC called The Doctor Who Clones Me, which is also sweet.
Looks good, like recent Quake HD mod Darkplaces which is definitely worth playing!
It's funny how the graphics of these old games need to be constantly updated, but the music always stays the same. Music is eternal.
Random music is better than no music!
..So much better than original Quake.. also that heavy soundtrack .. yum :)
I'm sure I've still got the original disc somewhere, now to get it to work on Linux...
i remembered, during 90's and early 00's, an expansion disc is totally worth the 15-20 dollar, now we have crappy DLCs which are sometimes parts of the main game, and without it, u cant "complete" the game
not to mention. map pack, skin pack and skin colours.
the reason we keep getting them is that ppl keep buying them
A community created remake that looks better than most AAA high dollar remakes, and keeps the original feel of the game.
I love the added geometry.
Quake2XP is the best source port IMO. I'm currently replaying and I'm midway on the first expansion pack.
Sega, Square Enix, Epic and ID had the best game music in 90s.
i still love the soundtrack in quake 2 this mod is amazing i want it
Quake 2 in HD looks like new DOOM. So aesthetic.
I love this game. Good times!
I think they added some bumpmapping and some cheap motion blur post processing effects. Q2 is my favorite game of all times.
Shit yeah! The graphics mod definitely shows some improvement over the original. On a side note, that soundtrack is badass.
Dude the OST still sounds good, hope Bethesda works with Sonic Mayhem again.
When the game itself looks better than the intro.
Not as overdone as the graphics mods ive seen for Q1 in the bloom and "everythings coated in bumpmaps and greasy sheen" department. Except the weapons, why are they slick and oily looking? The HUD is cheap looking though. Come to think of it, while I respect the people who did the work to make this happen, this kinda makes Q1&2 look like well done amatuer Unity games, makes it look cheaper. Though yeah, recognized that some people just like these graphics better. Yay rambling.
Absolutely - a lot of what made Quake 2 was that grungy ambience it makes me cry a little inside seeing these high res mods that completely miss the spirit of the original game. Plus artlessly slapping high resolution textures in often just emphasises the lower resolution geometry and limited detailing and needs to be done with care to mask that as much as possible if there is no structural makeover at the same time.
don't let the door hit you in the butt
While I too appreciate the modding community, a lot of times the graphics mods ruin the atmosphere and feel of the original. "Artless" is a good descriptor. One of the worst is the mod for Duke3D that changes all the sprites into 3D models, yuck!
Then consider that because of bumps and shines, you need a graphics rendering chip 100 times as powerfull as the voodoo2/3!
For that theres always Yamagi Quake II ;)
Best source port in my opinion
This and Unreal Gold are benchmarks in excellence.
Lol heard railgun in the background.
Looks cool, but i recently played the normal version, was still just as fun as it was first time.
Ahh good ol' quake, the reason why i suck at CS xd
I never even knew that there was an intro video to Quake 2...
great stuff.
Am I the only one that played this with a Rendition Vérité V1000 based card? That version was called VQuake2
nice! I love seeing new skins on old games
This looks pretty cool, but I think the music is wrong - doesn't it use a different track for the first level, for example?
Exactly how I remember the game looking.
Thought this was gonna be some dumb circlejerk about "gaems now hol ur hand" "lootbox r bad mkay?" but it actually made me want to play Quake 2 again.
Awesome thrilling shiver inside!
Favorite Game for Years
More like 2006 than 2016 but nicely done neverthless.
