WoW Project NEMESI5, thank you for that, I appreciate it big time ;-)) Many of these session topics are inspired by comments on the page, so THANK YOU for engaging my friend, it's AWESOME!!! Cheers to you, be safe ;-) -hw
Not too long ago I saw the Cevin Key part of the I Dream of Wires doc. They in the day were running almost everything through a PCM41 (can be seen during The Choke, Ain't it Dead Yet?). SP was also using Korg delays as more or less a sampler, for their percussion, pretty cool stuff. Thanks for the video Ken.
I was also wondering what the major differences between the PCM 41 and 42 were. I think I saw an interview with Cevin Key calling the 41 "the greatest delay ever made". I wonder what advantages it has over the 42, which from the looks of this seems like a killer unit.
@@dancadera Like Ken explains (as I understand) the source sound will be identical for longer. Got a Boss RE-20 on my Moog Subsequent and like doing the opposite (more or less) with tape saturation and speed.
Thank you Mike Hydropneumatic, I appreciate you sharing my friend ;-) Absolutely, I bet cEvin still uses his SDD-1000 as a sampler! They have a very unique sound for sure! I better dig mine out...it's missing a few knobs but that usually just makes it sound better lmao! Cheers, -hw
@@dancadera Thanks for sharing!!! They are both amazing delay lines for sure, and each unit has a distinct sound. The 41 had to go to half bandwidth to get past 200ms so it was a pretty filtered sound, which is exactly why we're so drawn to it! The converters / filters Lexicon designed back then were pretty awesome sounding...like why an Akai S1000 sampler still sounds KILLER ;-)) The 42 goes to 1200ms at full 16KHz bandwidth, so the return sounds like BOOM ;-) They can be a little dangerous around a monitor system...I blew a few ns10 tweeters back in the day messing with the 42 haha! Cheers Dan, -hw
@@mikehydropneumatic2583 that sounds like an awesome setup!!! Thanks for sharing ;-) I bet you can loose hours with that particular combo!!! Cheers, -hw
I still have my SDD-3000, SDD-2000, PCM-41, DeltaLab Effectron ADM1024, MXR M175, Yamaha D-1500, guess you could say I like delays. Ken hits another one outa the park, loving these vids.
Just discovered your channel and have been enjoying your content a great deal. You're very charismatic, seem like a cool dude to have a beer with. Not sure if you've done this but didn't find among your videos -- would love a tour of your studio setup, controllers, desk, etc etx.
the fader on the mixing desk you are moving to bring in the delay: is that controlling the send amount to the delay fx bus or is it just a "post-fx"volume fader leaving the send lvl untouched and engaged the whole time?
Big fan of these old DDLs. I'm actually expecting a delivery later today of two Digitech delays. An RDS 3.6 and RDS 2001. The 2001 has the sample option of which will let me do the old trick Tom Ellard used to do. I would LOVE a PCM-41, but damn those current prices!
thank you for this!🙏 I love delays of all kind. The only digital delay that I have is my "zoom ms-70cdr" it's got a lot of interesting delays types🎧💫😵👌 but I have to admit my favorite is my "Korg monotron delay" for a thing that looks like a little toy, it's got an interesting sound!👍✌
PCM-42 modulated widening @7:58min kills. There's a mod out there that adds a reverse switch, seems like that would be useful for monkeying around with FX-type lines.
Hi Ken, Great videos. 1 simple question, what is the wrist band wired to the monitor controller for? LOL, of all the things I ask, I ask about wire... I'm such a studio nerd! Thanks for sharing all your work!
Thank you Jacob Fisher, haha, I love being a studio nerd ;-) I'm in a dry climate and it prevents static discharge! In addition to protecting my gear, the touch controls on my Artist Mix respond approximately 1000% better!!! So I wear this band on my wrist that snaps to the tether, which I chose to clamp to the monitor system...preventing discharge, all the way back to my DAW, works awesome! Cheers Jacob, and thank you for sharing ;-) -hw
One of my newest favorite Delay plug-ins I've picked up recently was the WA Productions "Mutant Delay". www.pluginboutique.com/product/2-Effects/10-Delay/5593-Mutant-Delay One of its BEST features is the "ducking" settings.
Thanks for asking Der Kernspalter, I bet Robert and Solo from 'Last Influence of Brain' will take that as a compliment ;-) Some cool guys from Czech Republic, I'm mastering their new album later this month...maybe HALLOWEEN haha!!! The track I'm remixing in this one is 'Twone'. Cheers to you my friend, thanks for sharing ;-) -hw
So if the PSP version of the 42 has that limiter, then it would just be a matter of setting up a template with whatever knobs your controller has and you could get the same effect? Lord knows those hardware delays are not for the feint of bank account.
KILLER!!! In fact, that single long vocal delay in this track is my H3500 ;-) Great question Benjamin, thanks for asking ;-) I've used the H9 as well with great results. It definitely doesn't sound like the old hardware unit but the programs sound very good ;-) Love the old Eventide harmonizers, they just need some doctoring from time to time lmao! Thanks for your comment Benjamin, cheers, -hw
Love this channel. Its everything I love about music rolled into one.

I absolutely love your remix of "Rodent" (it's probably my favorite version), so stumbling across your channel was pretty cool; good stuff
Great content once again, Ken!

Limiter on delay feedback!!! thanks, Ken, for this missing link (for me), let infinite delay reign.
This is great Ken. Love the channel. Just saw the Dragon Experience got a re-release and I’m grabbing that ASAP.
Gotta say it again....best channel ever!!!!!
Thank you WORSAW666, I so appreciate you sharing my friend ;-)) LOVE playing delays...they're an instrument in themselves!!! Cheers, be safe ;-) -hw

I'm having fun with the PSPaudioware versions.
Thanks! Nice Work!
Thank you detached, I appreciate that ;-)) The single channel delay line is still king, and they play like an instrument!!!
Cheers my friend ;-) -hw
I love what this machine does. Thanks for showing the good stuff :)
Is there a recommendable vst emulation of that delay unit avaiable?
Cheers

I could swear this sounds like a newer FLA track but then i would not know wich one. Care to solve the riddle which band and what track this is?
Its „Twone“ from ˋLast Influence of Brianˋ.
Thanks for asking Der Kernspalter, I bet Robert and Solo from 'Last Influence of Brain' will take that as a compliment ;-)
