Carol Channing was the real deal. Class act from the very beginning. One of the best performers of all time. She is still, “lifting our lives.” We love you, always and forever.
You can feel her passion for performing and Hello Dolly. Hearing her do Before the parade passes by and reciting lines is amazing!! If she could have done the revival, you bet she would have done it!
02:30 "You're whitewashing." Carol is remarkably forthright and 100% honest. She took a compliment about being a good mother, and turned it around to reflect the truth. Listen again. She's so open, letting her guard down in the usual celeb interview.
Soooo sweeet. She “passed” and became famous.🙏🏽 Bless her heart 💜! It took all those years for her to feel comfortable enough to sing the old ‘negro’ songs that her dad sang in their home. 🥺
Yes she was African American. She was told when she was 17 years old. She broke many barriers but has received no credit neither did she seek them. She performed. She stood her ground in a brutal world quietly opening doors with a big voice - doors that wouldn’t be discovered broken down for decades to come. She was herself. She sent signals even in this interview. Cheers ~
She reminds me of my middle school drama teacher. Her personality and just how she tells stories of her life...and they both love to perform (I have a passion for performing too)! Love it and love her so much! You're so lucky to have gotten the chance to meet her! If only I could...
Yeah, she's mixed race, 1/4 black I think (1/2 Jewish 1/4 German). That song that her father (whose mother was black) taught her is a black spiritual/slave song ("pharaoh's army got drowneded") I wonder how many people caught that.
it was always genuine with Carol. Just a realism and a TRUE human ,,also, with her stage characters. She knew how to make it real and loveable. We love you Carol. Blessings and heart to you dear. - "Jen"
I love how excited she got about finding Dolly's spine. You can see how after over 5000 performances she was proud of her professional understanding. Love it.
I was wondering how she was doing. It's so incredible to see her in this interview. She's still so vivacious, so vital. Truly one of the all-time greats. Doesn't some film producer out there want to take advantage of her obviously still-immense talent & (re-)make "Hello, Dolly", which was HER ROLE ONLY (Streisand should NEVER have been cast in the film) while she's still with us? Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! Carol Channing will ALWAYS be one of America's most priceless treasures.
Thank you So very much for posting! Such an uplifting interview with Miss Channing ! The arts in the schools are So important!! Nurturing the humanities in schools sparks understanding of self and others. We miss you Ms. Channing !!! Yep.. Heaven got a good one !!!!!
Someone once said to me that such people as Ms. Channing and others of great talent, are not mere mortals. They possess a thing that is unique to the soul of gifted people. I've always liked Carol Channing. I believe she os one of those special people and I'm glad fun she has shared with all.
Yes but Carol is a positive module while Betty is a negative example. Betty White began as a positive model and finished as a nasty, filthy, crude , rude example of of everything not to be!
What an upbeat woman she truly was. Her love of life was definitely not a "put on" performance. I so admire her for her eternal sunshine and lust for life. Bravo, Carol!
DDumbrille, no one ever really gave a s**t about her singing, it's the grit, character and inspiration that she put into her work that made her famous. She made Jerry Herman's music come to life.
Carol Channing was an excellent musician. Her range was amazing. She could reach the highest soprano to the lowest bass. Just because he delivered her songs with humor-and often tragedy-people tend to discount her musical talents.
REMARKABLE! Brings tears to ny eyes. She so SINCERE. I think that's what has kept her going. Must be. Never mind that she can't sing. In truth she never could. As with Merman, it was never ABOUT "singing." It's always been about CHARACTER and LOVE of LIFE.
Even in sleep, your bizarre comment haunted. Miss Channing created her life, and worked damned hard at her craft. Her gift of her talent, and the joy that she gives to so many is something that --- let me put it this way - how much joy have you brought to your fellow human beings?
It was a thrill being that close to her when, after appearing at a new clothing store fabulous Wilkes Bashford opened across the street from his old one, she ran out of it to her car to avoid autograph seekers outside. However, another singing star, Leslie Uggams, was a bit more relaxago ed as she walked towards the entrance of Bashford's new clothing store. If my memory serves me rightly, after all, this was long in San Francisco the night Mary Martin's dear friend, Janet Gaynor, was killed in an cab, Uggams sang Angela Lansbury's "If he walked into his life." You can literally call Wilkes the Noel Coward of clothing store owners. A fabulous human being.
There's no slowing down for this Broadway legend. The arts have all but been removed except from the most affluent schools, and only those in NY/CT and perhaps MA. Carol Channing is a diva in every right except in her behaviour -- and that makes her even more precious and endearing to our lives. They just don't make'm like this anymore! :(
A kishhhh on da hand may be quite continental, but diamonds are a girlshhhh beshhhht friend!! I"ve always admired that unique voice.. Show them how it's done Carol. :)
Thanks, Ryan Stiles.
Haha! That the reason I had to come her and listen to what she sounds like!
passionescapist - me too! 😃
Interesting choice, because she doesn’t use her schtick here much at all.
@@passionescapist Search for her during her younger years.

Had her grandfather's race come into play, she would not have had such liberties. Rest in Peace Beautiful 😍
"She lifted people's lives." RIP, Ms. Channing
No Alzheimer for Carol Channing. YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
She's a treasure! 96 year's old in 2017! Get it Lady - so much energy and life.

R.I.P Carol Channing. age 97 1921-2019

R.I.P Carol Channing. She was such a classic jetsetter, the kind of royalty who's friendly and loved to share stories. Whatta gal..!
Even in her older years carol channing was so freaking adorable ❤
I had to explain to my much younger husband that "freaking" or the more common "freakin" has nothing to do with freaks; it's Old School for "very."
She reminds me of my middle school drama teacher. Her personality and just how she tells stories of her life...and they both love to perform (I have a passion for performing too)! Love it and love her so much! You're so lucky to have gotten the chance to meet her! If only I could...
Thanks Miranda! Channing is everything about showbiz. It was a pleasure to have met her.

Black don't crack.

I love how excited she got about finding Dolly's spine. You can see how after over 5000 performances she was proud of her professional understanding. Love it.

What a wonderful interview!
Thanks!
I love Carol... she starts in one place and ends in another... you never know where the convo will go :)
Wow what an honour to have that from her
Carol and Betty White are models for women of all ages to emulate- I think it boils down to attitude- they are both so positive and focussed.
The older I get, the more I realize that "attitude is everything"...
Yes but Carol is a positive module while Betty is a negative example. Betty White began as a positive model and finished as a nasty, filthy, crude , rude example of of everything not to be!
I saw her twice in different productions of HELLO DOLLY! Great memories of a true star.
Carol and Harry's story is so very special. So glad they found each other after so long.
I am so glad to have gotten the two of them together on video!
What an upbeat woman she truly was. Her love of life was definitely not a "put on" performance. I so admire her for her eternal sunshine and lust for life. Bravo, Carol!
I truly love this woman. It brings tears to my eyes to hear her speak and sing. What an American treasure!

Beautiful Spirit...you will be remembered ❌⭕️♥️
DDumbrille, no one ever really gave a s**t about her singing, it's the grit, character and inspiration that she put into her work that made her famous. She made Jerry Herman's music come to life.
Ok , you explained very clearly, something I had been wondering about, why this woman did so well in show business. : )
Carol Channing was an excellent musician. Her range was amazing. She could reach the highest soprano to the lowest bass. Just because he delivered her songs with humor-and often tragedy-people tend to discount her musical talents.
Tom Gregory, how supremely blessed you were to have spent time with Carol!

She really reminds me of my 3rd grade literature and social studies teacher Ms. Murray.
The lady is amazing! She doesn't miss a beat.
Her African American roots are so clearly alive when she sings those songs that she learned from her father. Beautiful!
