Join Carla Music in the Bon Appétit Test Kitchen as she makes meatball subs! We like the combo of spicy and sweet Italian sausage, but use any uncooked sausage you like-merguez or chorizo would work.

Carla Makes Meatball Subs | From the Test Kitchen | Bon Appétit
Chris is the cameo king. He's in everyone's video either offering advice or being critical or just listening to something in the background doing work. Love him and his presence
He's listening to Timecop1983
@Timechaser - I totally agree! He's so dependable that it makes me feel really safe, weirdly. Big Chris fan :)
Chris is the Stan Lee of the Bon Appetit Video Universe
At this point I feel like it would be weird if Chris didn't have a cameo, wouldn't be the same without it
It's because his station is the one directly behind the one where they shoot the videos. Works out perfectly though aha.
My pregnant wife demanded I make this. I cheated and bought pesto but followed along with the rest. Absolutely delicious!
Smart man!!
I got worried when I read the I cheated part. 😖
good for her
@@thea.g.productions5810 lol
If wife say make me balls... you make her balls. Even if that means someone else made the pesto 😂
Carla and Chris: the cool mom and dad
Claire and Brad: the fun aunt and uncle
Molly and Andy: the chill older siblings
Kara Murray why does this fit so perfectly?
Kara Murray, that would be a Thanksgiving for the books.
@MateoCRESCIMBENI Yeah, he makes me feel really ankward.
Us: the little children that just want to learn how to cook. Also ends up eating everything the family cooks.
Why is this so correct 😂😂😂
"They'll never know how much I ate because no one else was here."
I felt that deep in my soul Carla.
I need to be more like this haha
idk why but I always feel so much comfort when I see Chris in the background
It's because he's always there lol you know it's a proper BA video with Chris around
alex he has a grounding effect
he has such a mellow temper.
It gives the whole video a sense of serenity. And a need for temepering.
@@TalkAsSoftAsChalk Aha ha ha ha ha ha ha! x'D
Chris should try to guess flavors in a tasting show, possibly blindfolded
Maybe on Epicurious
What a prediction 😭
ooUAGGHHHH
And one of the first secret ingredients he has to guess in a recipe is tempered chocolate
You come from the future or what?
I love how consistent BA has been with 1. Tempering and 2. Carla burning buns. 💕🔥🥖
Filipino ka din ba?
@@elijahcastellon5281 ba:bon appetit
or, in the case of tempering, a lack thereof.
*Precisely and mathematically works out 12 meatballs*
"theres only 10"
*reworks it"
*NOW THERES 13*
The reason why I hate maths lol
one day carla will stop burning buns.
today is not that day.
allia rosli one day Chris will stop wanting everything tempered.
today is also not that day.
its a good time to talk about broilers....
😂😂
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Last video I saw she burned burger buns and now these lol
Am I the only person taught to leave the oven door ajar when broiling so you don't burn stuff? Isn't that why the oven door is designed to stay open 2-3 inches?
LISTEN! @bon appetit, we need to talk. How you gonna just cut the reaction part of the video out?! Especially after she was just talking about how Chris can taste everything that goes into a dish without being told. I feel robbed. ROBBED! I'm gonna go sulk in a corner somewhere.
For real!!!!
Yeah what's that about?
Facts 💯💯💯
Agreed!
"don't burn the burns"
.... flash back to the smash burger buns
400 people liked this without correcting you lol you typed "burns" twice
Dab Council whoops 😂
Dab Council the real questions is should I fix it or let it be
Everybody needs a theme or signature. Carla's is burned buns.
recoil53 and horrible math
Thank you for not editing out Carla’s mistakes! It’s great to know that even amazing cooks like Carla still make mistakes
I wouldn't call an amazing cook someone who can't even manage not to burn some bread, tho
@varun prasad ok
Do you ever feel like the 13th meatball? Because tbh same.
13th meatball = 1 uncooked pasta from molly's carbonara video
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag?
@@notabot0001 in the sense that I'm trash but people always try to recycle me anyway, ya
All the time Amy, all the time.🤔
Can we start a tally for all the uncooked/uneaten food on the channel?
"you likely have these ingredients at home already" ... me: has 5 beers and coffee creamer in the fridge. ya sure.
Breakfast of champions!
if it doesnt have chris' approval, i dont want it.
...if it’s not tempered...
not enough daikon radishes
If you didn’t grow that basil, then it isn’t good enough
"I wouldn't put a carrot in this."
Ok, but what about a turnip?
I laughed way too much at this
Rutabaga?
Does Chris Morocco live in the test kitchen?
BelisariusMundus well don’t go telling everyone where he lives.... rudeee
Why do they cut the tasting reactions now a days? And they still invite someone to taste and show them taking a bite but then don't show the comment after tasting.
Bon Appetit's winning strategy: Come for Claire and Brad. Stay for everyone else.
This is so true
sorry guys i came for andy
I mean
It works sooooo
I specifically came for carla. Hooked by her smash burger and the eggs three ways video
I’m vegetarian but I’m here for Carla. I love how she explains things
Rodrigo Muniz
Let me fix your comments. “I’m here for Carla I love how she explains things”
There 🙃
@@elliotdavies6945 ?
Easy enough to get a vegetarian alternative to the meat
diana davies people be vegetarian. it's not an attack on your diet
Rodrigo Muniz so am i :D
But did you temper the meatballs, Carla ?
You asked too directly you need to temper your question
Do not follow this recipe it’s horrible and not how you do a Sunday gravy !! And meatballs are half pork or Italian sausage and Veal and the gravy has to have a cup of red wine a dry one
Gonietube NYC what is wrong with you? Haha
Stop this joke it's getting lame 🙄
The buns got tempered
Glad that Carla is giving Chris the appreciation he deserves.
"Don't burn the buns"
"Don't you dare!"
Proceeds to burning the buns.
One time I decided to make pesto from scratch but I was out of basil, so I instead used the mint leaves and cilantro in my garden instead. Turned out surprisingly decent.
With a pepper it sounds right for Thai food.
You should add some turnips Carla
Hannah Goss Harris the sass
lmao rude
She should definitely temper the turnips first
Hilarious!
Turnip for what?
This video is like the ultimate foreshadowing video for the future content.
Canned tomatoes (Bianco) - used for the sauce video on making the perfect pizza
Carla bringing up the fact that Chris is a supertaster - that video where he recreates Gordon’s beef wellington
"Say it enough times and it's real."
- Carla, Bon Appetit 2019 😂
Very relevant to today's political atmosphere as well.
@@HazeGreyAndUnderway Very true, Aldo. Reminds me of what the great Phil DeFranco says, "Why be informed when you can use your feelings as facts?" Haha
@@HazeGreyAndUnderway Not just today's. The whole "lying media" thing began with one of Nixon's aides. Anytime something damaging is reported, a Republican said it.
I'm ashamed to say i learned that saying watching real housewives 😣😣
Italian here: pesto is a sauce tipically of vegetables and oil PLUS nuts and or cheese. A sauce is anything liquid cooked, and a sugo is what remains after a long cooking procedure. So the one by Carla is a Basil sauce, while if she would have put in cheese and or nuts it would be a pesto, even if inside a food processor.
*_Subway has left the chat_*
Lmao
Subway should just leave the planet.
@@JakeLovesSteak Except for their cookies! They're delicious.
I like how they didn't edit the burnt part out, makes the show very authentic!
The sweetness of the tomatoes TEMPERED the vegetal taste of the sauce?! Carla knowwwwssssss 😉
Carla will always be my fave. I tried out one of her recipes for a soup recently and it was actually amazing. I never cook anything remotely that good normally.
Am I the only one who felt so happy for the 13th meatball when he could finally come to the party???
After what Molly did to that poor pasta piece earlier I felt such a surge of relief when the meatball joined it's buddies.
@@sendmeplantpics wonder what happened to the solo pasta piece in the box :(
Mayee Barredo no joke, I teared up
“This is a recipe based on pantry staples”
**precisely her next breath**
“Ok so let’s start on the fennel”
Are we still throwing shade about subbing carrots and other root veggies? Lol
possibly... turnips?
This channel is the Marvel of cooking, thanks for having likable personalities but the charm of an office environment. You make people want to work with you.
They burned because she didn't temper the bread first, should've listened to Chris
I'm so happy the 13th meatball could come to the party. This was the highlight of my day :D
Carla, my wife and I started making your pie crust recipes! It's changed my life ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
“Spicy sausage balls” was my nickname in high school
😂😂😂😂be proud of that
And again in prison.
I would mix 50% ground beef 50% sausages. like my Sicilian grandmother recipe. also, she would have use Leeks sometime instead of Onions.
Agreed. I personally think the flavor of meatballs is better with half ground beef half pork sausage.
Carla you are a wonderful person and a great chef. Bless you and your family.🙂
Wet hands make smooth balls!
*Noted
Emersonson sounds like something Chef John would say!
i impulse bought your book and it is the BEST! the way you write is so relatable and i'm excited to start trying the recipes

I love everything Carla makes! She’s my fav by far
Me blending my cereal: “Cinnamon Toastie Pesto.”
"i wouldn't put a carrot in this... just not... not down with that"

Wow. Bold move not even cracking off the char.
Wait Wait Wait.
I'VE SEEN THOSE CANNED TOMATOES BEFORE
How long did it take you guys to film the pizza episodes 9 months?
Makkaer1111 potentially. It did take months if I remember correctly.
Well, the series took a long time to make, then it was released to BA TV, and only later was it released here gradually.
@@itamarolmert3549 BA tv? Where is that? I need it xD
that’s like their fave brand of canned tomatoes brad mentions them a lot
Love watching bon appetit on a Saturday morning ☺️

**Salutes Meatball**
I made these for dinner tonight, they were amazing! I really appreciate the way you make cooking so approachable, thanks for everything you do!
Hogging the best pieces because I deserve it for doing the cooking---always 😆
Carla! have you ever watched "Italian grandma makes tomato sauce" and her other videos? She's one of those who feeds everyone then eats in the kitchen. She's a doll!

I burn my buns way too often! Great to see that even experienced cooks make simple mistakes. It shows great transparency in the kitchen as opposed to clever editing that replaces mistakes with perfect products. Love these videos keep it up!!!
I just love the human part of ba’s videos and the chit chat while you’re waiting for the meat balls to brown. Makes you feel part of team. Great job guys!
I cannot stop watching all these food videos. I love how you can almost taste it through the screen.
Ironically all I have eaten in the last two years is microwaved..
I love how Chris is just chilling in the background drinking from a food storage container 7:33
Rewinded to see this!
That basil sauce is a gorgeous color and just makes those sandwiches look as delicious as I'm sure they are.
"They'll never know what I ate." Is such a mood when Im cooking.
Lol the burnt buns are what I relate to. I appreciate her continuing with the burnt buns. It brings a wholesome feel to her video.
Cutting away at the bite is the equivalent of foody blue balls.
Musta been a spit take....
and so they started putting Chris's super tasting abilities to the test. thanks for that Carla.

I made this recipe with homemade rolls. It was awesome! Thanks for sharing!
6:28 who else peeped the same sauce as the one in making perfect👀
I think for the pesto paste with bread, instead of using oven, toast it with flame burner. it will make it crisp on the bun with paste melted into the rolls.
"You can get someone to do it for you, I highly recommend it" lmfaooo
Carla has such a warm comforting presence I love her
It’s good to butter the buns with a compound butter.
3 carla videos in 2 weeks we are truly blessed
I love how Carla everytime says: "don't burn the buns" and then proceeds to burn the buns.
I love Carla so much. She is so entertaining!!!
"life isn't always pretty neither is cooking" but you are Carla, you are!
LOVE Carla, Molly, and the guys. Such a fun team!
"when you want a sandwich for dinner"

FlyingFoxy no
In my country a sandwich is normal for dinner but dinner in the us is weird
Carla is the type of person you want for a best friend. She's funny, full of good advice, and a great cook.
Carla you remind me of my amazing Tia who is just a wholesome, strong, inspirational, and beautiful woman. Thank you for being you and sharing your passion of cooking with the world ❤️
9:55 Traditional Pesto only uses 4 ingredients: Basil, Olive Oil, Pine Nuts and Parmigiano Reggiano... NO GARLIC. But you can add any ingredients you like, like garlic. I personally like to mix the basil with baby spinach, and I like to mix the Parmigiano Reggiano with Pecorino Romano. Some times I substitute the Pine Nuts with any nuts I may have at hand... like almonds or pecans. But I think that at least the 4 traditional ingredients should be present in it be a pesto.
Yes! I love Carla merchandise! Already bought a few copies of her books on amazon to gift!
I absolutely love Carla
Did she call the bread a hero AND a hoagie?! WHERE ARE WE??
America - she missed grinder and sub. I think that this falls outside the Garibaldi, ironically enough.
In Australia, this would just be called a bread roll. All rolls of bread are called bread rolls.
@@briannaward2607 It's almost as if you're usage of language makes sense - a thing is called what it is.

I always feel so empowered any time Carla makes something!
I'm gonna say it again, can we please have an episode where each of BA's test kitchen members create a dish for a dinner party and then they all sit down and eat each other's food and talk about life? That's what we need!
This!
So sweet how Carla complements Chris' tasting skills. :)
Believe me Carla, the reason your great grandmother stood around eating scraps while everyone else ate is because she too ate the best morsels during cooking.
That's half of why we become cooks and feed others. It's a good, loving, generous-seeming way to get the best goodies!
I rarely eat when my guests do... because I'm so full of the good bits.
You're keeping tradition alive!
