    so what do you think? Something you'd like to try? Just for clarity I say "tilt shift" in the video, but it really is just a tiltable lens, with no means to shift the sensor plane; sorry for the confusion! It isn't marketed as a "tilt shift" lens, only a tilt lens. 📸

    • @alantuttphotography
      @alantuttphotography 2 года назад

      Thanks for the clarification. Yes, a shift feature would add so much more, especially for architectural photography. I wonder if there's such a lens for M43?

      @@alantuttphotography I don’t believe there is a true tilt shift lens yet for m43. It would be great if a third party manufacturer made one!

    If I may make a recommendation, if you want to explore more tilt/shift stuff: I highly recommend checking out Fotodiox’s TLT-Rokr adapter. It has both tilt and shift with markings for repeatable results, and works great with Canon Fd and m42 lenses. Lots of fun, especially if you already have some vintage lenses that you’d want to adapt anyway.

    that's the principe of tilting the plane. i used to do this on my 4x5 medium format back in the days... Originally tilting the plane is used for having more fake 'DOF' than you usually have when the focus is parallel to the sensor. When you go the opposite, then you have extra out of focus like you did on your video. That's a very niche kind of look indeed!

    These lenses can be fun but yes so easy to over do it. I was watching Live at the Apollo behind the scenes documentary and noticed that some of the angles on the Jack Dee interview in the stalls were shot on a tilt lens.
    You can get a Fotga Tilta EF to MFT tilt adapter similar to the way this work, a m42 to EF adapter to and a second hand m42 nifty fifty (or any other length that takes your fancy) for under £100. You can also get a straight M42 to MFT adapter which just tilts in one direction but then you rotate it to where you want.

    Awesome review. I like that you walk through your trial and error process and- in the end- walk away with a lot of good insight. The idea of using it to embellish a sense of intimacy is particularly good. I think a lot of people would never come to that conclusion and end up with a slew of "samey" shots- which makes it feel like a gimmick more than an artistic tool.
    Anyway. Nice work!

    It would be interesting to see some more scientific rather than arty type shots. Something like laying a document on a table top with the camera on a tripod and trying to match the plane of focus to the document but with everything else out of focus.
    A shift lens would be much more interesting IMO. Very useful for architectural work.

    I see the "tilt" but how do you shift [ ie: keeping the optical path perpendicular to the sensor plane ]? Seems more like a tilt-only lens...hope it's not SOLD as a real TS: that would be false advertising.

    A nice review for a "fun lens" I have been using the lensbaby 22 sol mft (45 in other formats) a bit similar as it bends to angles the main down side is the fixed f stop. It is small and can keep in the bag for when I see a shot.

      Yes and no. You can definitely add in blur to an image and emphasise a subject, but probably can’t reproduce the skew and swirl with the bokeh around the edges. Either way, it’s a fun effect to play with whether in post or in camera 😊

      I’m really enjoying the s5! I ended up selling my S1 to put towards the gh6. It’s such a great camera but absolutely huge so I just never used it except for work. The s5, with the right lenses (like this one in the video!) is really light and portable and very fun to play with. I’m working on a long term review video for the s5 soon 😊

    That is not a tilt-shift lens. It only tilts. It doesn't shift. And by the way, you can turn just about any manual lens for a 35mm SLR into a tilt-shift lens for micro four thirds by means of a tilt-shift adapter. It's a pity we don't have native tilt-shift lenses for micro four thirds. I hope Laowa or some other manufacturer will make some one of these days because it's really hard to find ultra wide rectilinear full frame lenses to adapt. In fact, I'm not aware of anything wider than 11mm.

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds 2 года назад +1

      Indeed. Just a tilt! I’d love for there to be some options on mft too. I think Laowa could make a great one. Thanks for watching! 😊
