I read Carrie not too long ago. I'm a huge King fan. I felt for Carrie. She did nothing to deserve all the hate she received and you do root for her. I never genuinely liked Sue for her "niceness". Guilt niceness is the worst. I did feel for Tommy (I think that was his name). :-(
Just finished re-reading Carrie today. It's been about twenty-seven years since I read it. That makes me feel super old. LOL I've read I think 14 King novels, and last year decided I wanted to go back and read them in publication order, stumbled across your channel few months back (maybe longer?) and you inspired me to get at it! You're right, Carrie is SO SAD. Man this book broke my heart. Now on to Salem's Lot!
I read Carrie for the first time just a couple of nights ago, I loved it. The mob mentality in this book was astonishing, even the little bits about the principle not really giving a shit about Carrie is really quite accurate. The scenes where Carrie is being yelled at by her mom and she’s hurting her self trying to get Carrie to stop looking at the tanning girl. The way the neighbours are like “weird” but don’t do anything. Such a powerful story about how kids who “fall through the cracks” are often right in your face. These videos are great!
Carrie was my first King and I did read it in high school. I really loved Tommy's character. I've read a few more King books since then but Carrie will always hold a special place in my heart.
My first Stephen King read. Of course I graduated in 1974 so it’s been a long time ago. After listening to you I’m going to go purchase it again. Carrie was a compelling character and she just wanted to fit in, be loved and be “normal”. As with most Stephen King novels, the book is usually better than the movie. But Sissy Spacek will always be Carrie White. You have gotten me excited to reread me some Stephen King. Happy Sunday!!!!
I love learning all these facts about Stephen King! The hair dryer part really cracked me up. I read Carrie when I was about eighteen and also found Sue's character really interesting. I was cheering for Carrie at the end, I couldn't help it. Those teenage girls were awful. I wanted Carrie to get her happy ending and for her to see that life could get better. I know she's a book character, but she deserved a happier life and to see that the world outside of that town wouldn't be so cruel to her. I'm totally gonna add The Shining to my TBR for February now. I read Salem's Lot (the only other SK book I've read besides Carrie) and I've really been meaning to read more of his books. So this is the perfect opportunity. I'm so excited to watch this series! I'm totally gonna be waiting for BuzzFeed Unsolved on Fridays and Stephen King Sundays.
Nice video!! I read Carrie this October for the first time. I finally picked it up out of all my King novels because I read these facts in On Writing, but hearing you say these facts again still gave me goosebumps. It's such a touching rags-to-riches story.
I just recently read Carrie for the first time. I LOVED it! Growing up I saw the classic movie. But reading this book was so much more in depth. You really end up sympathizing for Carrie due to the mistreatment she endured by both the hands of the kids at school and her mother. Story was short and to the point. 5/5 for me.
I love the format of this video. Having the facts thrown in along with the review/discussion is so much fun. I can't wait to see what you do next in the series.
This was awesome. I love all the work you put into this, it was incredible. I never knew why he wrote it but knowing it really enhances the reading experience.
Love this series of videos so much! I must admit that the facts section was my fave because I like learning about the backgrounds of why authors wrote certain stories. I have never read any of Stephen King's works (except On Writing), but this may be the year I try to read one or a few. (I did see two movie adaptations of Carrie, but that was a long time ago.) Thank you for the great content, Natasha! 😊
King's books are typically a hit or miss for me, but even if you don't enjoy his works King is just such a fascinating person. Last year I visited The Stanley Hotel in Colorado which I am sure that you know is his inspiration for The Shining and it was absolutely amazing! Stepping into his inspiration just takes the story to another level. After hearing your review I plan to read Carrie at some point during this year!
I read Carrie 4 years ago. It was my first Stephen King book and I fell in love with his work and went and got myself about a dozen of his books including The Stand, It, 11/22/63, 'Salem's Lot, Different Seasons, and a few more. I then read Different Seasons which I enjoyed as much as Carrie, but the thing about Carrie is that I read it in one sitting because it was that gripping. It's my go-to recommendation for anyone who wants to read King and doesn't shy away from horror.
I don't know why but this video really got my water works going. I'm pretty emotional, but still... Go Stephen King! I agree that some of his choice of words are a little jarring to read in today's age. (I had the same problem with reading Jaws by Peter Benchley. I know it is being realistic to the times, but it is still hard to read.) Stephen King isn't afraid to write whatever he wants to write, is he? He is also fond of his darlings. I am also reading his books in order. So far I am up to Salem's Lot (Just finished that one about a week ago) In the past I read It (Last year) and also Desperation (probably when I was a teenager.) I've read Carrie 2 times. 4 stars the first time and 5 stars the second time, but I am always conflicted on my ratings. Second time was with an audiobook. I feel for Carrie and I can't not like her as a character and it sounds morbid, but it is true, you semi root for her when she gets her revenge. It is so sad. The prom scene before anything went down where Carrie is happy and chatting, making friends with the nice couple she was introduced to. She saw a moment where she could have friends and be liked for her, but then things had to go so horrible. Thank you for the facts. They are so interesting. I read about some of it in his Carrie intro, but it is cool hearing the extra stuff. I appreciate so much that you said "victim of suicide" instead of "committed suicide." Mental health and suicide have such a stigma. It's committing nothing; not a crime. At least that is how I see it. Thank you. I slip and say committed from time to time, but I quickly correct myself. Committed is just the word people are used to saying and the word I grew up knowing.
I love this comment and if I wasn't so sick I'd respond with much more clarity and length. I agree so much with what you said about Carrie. I try my best to avoid saying "committed" just as a step forward into better terms.
Natasha. I love everything I about this video and I am so excited to see what you continue to do with this series. I read Carrie in high school, so more than 10 years ago so I really need to reread it.
Yes! My second Stephen King book. I was so hesistant at first, but wow, this did not disappoint. I was rooting for Carrie from the start. I love your Stephen King Sunday videos!
I have been wanting to read Carrie for a while now I finally have it. My first King book was Pet sematary. I finished ch.4 of It now I'm gonna read Carrie
Hey there ... new subbie here from Australia ... wow I am loving your Stephen King Sundays this is awesome as he is one of my favourite writers. I have read a fair few of his works but nowhere near all but I think I might do a reread from the beginning, you have made me want to read Carrie all over again. I absolutely love those 2007 covers I wish I had started picking them up at the time, living in Australia postage is shit for trying to get things like that. I buy mostly from Book Depository as it's free world wide postage but they only have more recent editions of things. All my covers are mismatched of the ones I own because I would just buy them as they came out and was never financial enough to rebuy books that I already owned when they brought out new covers. I at least own the original serialised set of The Green Mile ... I thought it was the best idea when it came out but the only problem was waiting a month for the next one, I'd be down there waiting for the shop to open to buy it each time haha .... I'm slowly going back binge watching all your other videos ... love your taste in books 😀❤️ I've edited because I forgot to say I loved the research you did and I think it really adds to the whole theme so please keep that part up 😀 .. also will you be discussing various versions of the movie adaptations of a lot of his works, like the good, the bad etc or just mentioning them in passing?
Love the video. I re-read probably half to prep for your video because I had zero time this week. Has anyone got a rough age rating for Carrie! I’m 15 and I’ve read some of his books and bean fine but then I started doctor sleep and found it far to explicit, so a age rating would be useful if anyone has one ☺️

LOVING THE NOSFERATU POP!
I feel like one of these need to be when you go and visit Maine.

Aww thank you! This is shit I live for! I love finding out facts!
Great video. I read Carrie as a teenager and took away the same lesson: be kind to everyone because you don't know what might put them over the edge.
Exactly!

Has anyone got a rough age rating for Carrie! I’m 15 and I’ve read some of his books and bean fine but then I started doctor sleep and found it far to explicit, so a age rating would be useful if anyone has one ☺️
What do you mean when you were a teenager cutie. Great job on the video.
