Wise words indeed Tim. I’m 65 and retired now living back in Laurel MS. I left the family trucking business in my 20s and then move away to Ohio and ended up in Alaska for over 20+ years. My worst fear was how my dad felt about me leaving his home made, successful dream company. Years later we had “The” discussion about me leaving. He finally put me at ease by telling me he understood why I left. The trucking company was his dream, not mine. His pride in me was watching me pursue my dream and not his. He never got to see me achieve my total success but I know he knows how well I made it. Oh, and Happy Birthday to you.
My light turned on at 32 after working for the MAN for 18 years! “Lean not to your own understanding but in ALL your ways acknowledge HIM and HE will direct your paths”
Love this video I am 23 and work for a tree company I did not start out doing tree work. Before I was here I was at a warehouse for truck parts and I was absolutely miserable packing boxes all day. I knew I wanted to do tree work and as I got a vocal about it everybody in my life pretty much clowned me! I finally got a position at a small residential company and I put in my two weeks notice at work and went to this company. I lasted one week at this company and thankfully my boss at the warehouse took me back. This was some of the hardest times of my life at this job because people made fun of me all the time for not having the guts to do it and come back to the warehouse. I still held onto my dream even when everyone doubted me and put in a bunch of applications I did a bunch of weekend test runs with companies open to find one that sticks and after months I finally found a nice company that is training me and paying me pretty good !
Happy Birthday Tim. I will be 51 in 3 weeks and waited till I was in my 40s to go out on my own. Wish I would have done it sooner but it took till then for me to mature enough.
Tim Greatest words of wisdom I have heard in a long time. I am twenty years your senior. My generation grew up thinking like my parents...work for one company until you retire...wish I followed your path.
My 10yo son will definitely listen to this in 8 years! I'm the same age as you, 2017 was my exit out of my safe job! Never looked back, best decision I have ever made! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Happy birthday Tim. So true . I do little tree jobs and I've had my grandfather tell me don't do that it's too Dangerous but I would do it anyway. I think it's made me a better person.
Happy birthday Tim. Thank you for posting this video. It is so insitefull and true. I am sending a link to this video to my Grandson and I will encourage him to sit quietly and watch it, listen to it, and absorb the wisdom you share. Take care. Edit to add: I think you should edit this video into a "fireside" chat. The title "Do not be me" is perfect. Trim off the intro about the air compressor and just have the Fatherly talk. You have presented it so well I wish all young people could hear it. Post it everywhere you can to reach young people. Thanks again.
Happy Birthday Tim! Very wise words as I am one of those guys stuck in a job I am afraid to leave (though I don’t hate it I just don’t love it) just turning 51 like you 2 months ago. I started doing tree work part time with my cousin and our buddy 4 years ago and absolutely love it. I wish I had started when I was a younger man as it would probably have been my career though sometimes doing something full time changes your love of it. Enjoy your Birthday Tim🎉
Exactly how and what I did from 15 till 58, I am happy for what I achieved especially as a dyslexic and bipolar I was always employed, now at 67 on a good pension, 😊.
Thats good advice Tim, very well said. I did take some risk with my work, certainly not as much as others. I can truly say I enjoy what I do for a living. I was very lucky to find my calling. I do heavy commercial & industrial HVAC. Another sound thing id say is do not be afraid to try. I made it where I am because I wasn’t afraid to take on some jobs that scared others or they didn’t want it.
So true! While I still have my normal career which pays very well, I have also built my own business on the side that is almost as lucrative now. I am 60 now, If I had when after my passion early on I could have made it but I was afraid to take the risk and opted for the seemingly ease nice paycheck and settled for that when I should have immediately invested it in my passion. I could have had a well established business and working for myself at 30 instead of 60.
I have watched your videos for the past 4 years , and why , I don't know but I love logging and the machinery. I am an OB/Gyn doctor and now 66 years old and very successful. Ihave two sons that are 31 and 28 which are both in dead in jobs and barely making ends meet.. i am sending them this video because you know what i know. They don't understand that i went from dirt poor to my current success. you have done well at explaining this. my boys grew up hunting deer and fishing i Texas and they are kind of use to life on a platter.... Thanks , and great insight, Michael McCullough
Happy birthday mate, I to have started rather restarted my tree business last year when I turned 50. I had a successful tree outfit in my late 20s then gave it away to take over a family business I wasn’t interested in. When I hit 50 I went stuff it sold up and started again. Your a true gentleman and deserve everything you work for.
Happy birthday! Those are wise words. I remember going to college and I’ve been in the corporate world ever since. I still don’t know what I want to do when I grow up but I’m bored. Yet, I feel stuck because I have 3 kids. I wish I had the courage to go do something else.
Thank you for the video and that really hit home I have a small tree company and excavation with both a skid steer and a excavator and sometimes it gets scary and overwhelming my problem is find people to work. It’s crazy I have the work but I can’t do it by myself it’s hard I’m 38 so hopefully something will come work out or I’m gonna head to the border lol I’m serious!!!!!!! Thanks man your a good guy
Happy birthday! I have worked for my self for most of my adult life .I have had several businesses some worked some did not. I would rather work for my self ,for me it is as close to freedom as i can get!
I just did the same thing. I worked for the University of Alabama for 13 years where I was comfortable but very unhappy. I will start working for Tuscaloosa county in the next couple of weeks.
I will be 61 June 25th. Been a mechanic 40 years. Started my own business 11 years ago at 50 years old. Hard road at first. 12 employees today and doing well. Now getting into land clearing on the side which I enjoy more than anything. If you enjoy it. It's not work. Plan to let someone younger take over shop and I will run my machines and enjoy life. Should have took the chance a long time ago.
You could help a lot of high school kids and young people with your wisdom speaking at schools and what not. This world needs more people to share the truth with them and not shove lies and misinformation down there throats at every turn. Great video 👍
Happy birthday 🎉 True wise words at 58 I have wasted my life because I never found anything that I was really good at and always took the easy way out and just stayed in the job out of convenience
Happy 51st birthday. By the way my daughter turns 50 in June. I am not sure how I got a daughter that old! Great points made here. I could have played it safe and got a job at General Motors, my father-in-law could have got me in repairing machinery. But I didn't want the confinement of working in a factory. I wanted to work on cars. Because of my work ethic I was able to continue to work my self up from washing cars to becoming Fixed operations manager. I spent 45 years in the business. In that time my employer paid for over 4000 hours of schooling. Tim I have watched you on RUclips for a long time. The one thing that impresses me more that your work ethic is your willingness to help other people. What goes around comes around both good and bad. In your case you have been blessed because of your generosity. Have a great year.
Man, what an inspiring video! I hope some of your young followers will take this excellent advice and find their passion. Unfortunately, I never heard such great advice when I was young, and I took the "safe" route, always knowing in the back of my mind that I wasn't using my gifts and fulfilling my purpose. Who knows... maybe when I retire from my "safe" job in a few years, I'll find a side gig that I love. Best wishes to you and Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Mr. Tim. Glad you have shared another year with us and look forward to many more. You have been blessed but you have made things happen for yourself as well. Keep on keeping on!
I worked for Motion Industries for 39 1/2 years. When I retired at 65 in 2015 I started a small construction company in 2016. We are still working 12 people every day on 3 different job sites in 3 different counties. When I bought my first new excavator for $120K it was a leap of faith.
Their are many people who be great entrepreneurs but the big elephant in the room is health insurance. Even the marketplace for the affordable card act is a hurdle. Too many money people that don't touch sick people stuffing their pockets with cash. My wife is a pediatrician with 30 + years. She has made us a comfortable living but makes no where close to what the CEOs of hospitals, health systems, drug companies, medical supply companys etc. That needs to change for more young people to find their real self. Glad you were able to make leap. 👍
Do not spend your life building someone else’s dream. I did that until I was 45, I made a lot of employers rich all promising me they will take me to the top. I am now 48 and the last 3 years have been the best years of my life. I started my own mechanical company 3 years ago. Stop chasing the carrot someone else is holding. Grow your on garden.
Happy Birthday Tim. Wiser words have not been spoken. The key is to take that first step. Sure you want to plan. Sure you want to have the right timing and the right people but, don’t wait or plan so long that you miss opportunity when it shows up. Ready or not take that first step. I did when I was 24. I wasn’t the smartest manager of my time but it was my time! I made mistakes and learned from them. I’m retired now with few regrets. I have enjoyed watching you these past couple of years (I have a Cottontop tee). I so appreciate the example you have portrayed on your channel and the Christian values that I tried to exemplify in my business you have expressed so wonderfully in yours. Keep on keepin on man! Thank you for that message. I'm happy to say I wasn't you. I had radio in my heart from an early age. You talk about being frowned upon, all I ever heard was you'll never make any money, blah blah blah. Well I stuck with it and I did make money. I'm blessed to say I have two paid off houses and a killer recording studio. So you're exactly right. I tell people all the time, don't worry about the money, if you're good at it and passionate about it, you'll be great at it and money will come. Peace.

Bro I got into doing trees on the side about a year ago and really enjoy it. My buddy is your age and had the same talk with me about taking a leap of faith and going full time doing that. I'm 34 wife and 2 kids. I work 3rd shift driving forklift for cable company mainly just for my insurance. You inspire me because I have been striving to grow my business.
Ah a spring Chick my friend. I'm 75 running towards another with fingers crossed. Sage advice. Remember next job pays the same or more and might add a number of skill sets. Learn how to sell yourself what you have done and your upward goals. Forget about grades in school. If you did high school you did it. if you did some college - say some college.
Happy Birthday Tim. Great words of advice and i would also add that you don't have to make huge leaps. I too am not a huge gambler and thats alright. You can always start out slow doing things on the weekend, and rent equipment or buy used, and try and get a foothold established in that industry you want to be in. If it doesn't pan out you can sell off the equipment and usually recoup most of your money. I work in an office and my channel is devoted to my side projects/business which is me trying to find a secure backup to my office job for now and maybe one day becoming my primary job. But most importantly its things i enjoy like tree work and excavating. It does also afford me time to work with my dad who helps out and that may be something that you can't put a price on.
One of the most common issue with family businesses is when the parent dies and the kid is left to keep things rolling. The problem is the parent did things that made the company function and the kid never learned it, so the company fails. The highest grades in the class are the followers. Leaders are usually pushed to the side, attacked, and left to grow up without peers. Followers aren't good in the business leadership roles as they have nothing to offer. Once you step out on your own, you will learn how to make or break your business. It is too bad your parent didn't train you in an environment where you could make mistakes and learn from them. You will need to understand a few business foundation pieces before you go big. One, write out your dream, company bylaws, and purpose. Two, write down your decree. Your decree is a statement of your success and plan for the future. Three make a plan for spending, listing out your needs and wants. This will require you to know the difference between a need and a want. Wants will put you in the poor house fast! Be careful with the money and don't let your spouse near it unless they are company minded. Learn to find a thrill in solving problems. This thrill seeking will make or break you, so balance it with plenty of down time and family time. A leader sees rejection as going the correct direction, where a follower will change direction because of the rejection.

Happy Birthday Tim . And You need that Discharge resistor across the start capacitor it has several purposes
Can I just move it to the new capacitor?
@@cotontop3 it is to discharge the capacitor after the supply has been turned off, a large-value resistor is connected across the terminals. After it is switched off, the charge on the capacitor will drain off through this "bleeder resistor", causing the voltage to decay quickly to safe levels. It can be reused if you test it to see if it is still good. My 2 cents
@@cotontop3 yes sir
@@johnmason4378 I tested it and then re installed it to the new capacitor. Thank y’all 👍🏻
