Good lord - a tiger!
This is Le Tigre - an extraordinary instrument that could only have come from the uniquely creative minds of Chris and Jeremy Jenkins of Lame Horse Guitars in Texas!
Le Tigre is a hybrid instrument featuring a beguiling unplugged voice for roots music and a K&K magnetic humbucker with volume and tone controls.
If you’ve swooned at the Fender Acoustasonic then Le Tigre will take your breathe away. Without even biting through your windpipe.
Join me for a deep dive with this fascinating instrument as I try it in different contexts and tunings.
I hope you enjoy this video - until next time, stay tuned
Michael
Not sure how your channel isn't getting TONS more love. Your video, sound, and playing are all top tier... always.
My favourite acoustic guitar player 💯
@@davidthebiker2955 that means a lot to me David thank you! What I do was never intended for mass consumption and as I’m not part of a guitar dealership trying to get you to buy these instruments and putting money behind sponsored posts then my growth will always be organic and that’s the way I like it. I’m very glad you found me though and spreading the word does help a great deal too so please do share.
I dig this. For live work, this would be a great thing.
Live performance guitar should be comfortable + eye-catching.
Nothing more needed of it!
The tone of almost all guitars is good great these days.
@ Thank you for your unsolicited and unneeded wisdom. I played professionally for my living. I know what a live instrument needs to be - for me at least. And I don’t agree that all guitars sound great these days. I’d go as far as to say that’s objectively nonsensical.
@@bleeknoir Dude you're crazy. Touch some grass and get some friends.
@@bleeknoir true say! It’s a beast!
That's a cool instrument. It takes courage to be an innovator. Acoustic guitar with a sound hole pickup into an electric guitar amp is also something that merits trying. As long as you can defeat feedback, there are good tones to be had, even with cheap pick-ups. Kurt Vile does this with his Martin OO (or it could be an OOO).
The acoustic tone is fantastic. Lively, rich, well balanced... It seems that Tigre can be a beast in many different scenarios. Wow!

I played one of these at Fretboard Summit. It was an awkward conversation at the booth but the guitar just wasn’t really built for what I do. It was nice to see something other than a D28 clone that day.
@@calebbhawkins I know you’ve always been more of a crackle pink double neck Flying V man Caleb but you need to give some of these less adventurous designs a chance too!
Derek Zoolander approves of this instrument…especially when strung with Blue Steel strings.
@@JackTheRabbitMusic But why male models?
A unique guitar, killer playing, and awesome people-what more could you ask for? 🔥🔥🔥
@@iuliusguitars absolutely right!
Damn, beautiful guitar but, wow, Michael’s playing is just such a sonic treat!
@@boulderdesigner thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
The guitar looks really cool and the sound is rich, bright and variegated.
@@stickman55100 thanks for tuning in - I’m glad you enjoyed it!
All the superlatives! Gorgeous craftsmanship, excellent playing as always.
@@chrispile3878 thank you Chris!
Lots of versatilitiy there and definaterly something different thanks for bringing it to us as not seen or heard much of Lame Horse.
@@jez6345789 thanks for tuning in Jez!
Sounds and looks great. I want Hopalong Cassidy on my one.
I’d go for Roy Rogers or Lash Larue, but each to his own taste.
@@stevehowell231 an excellent choice
Your videos are fantastic man
@@SaschaHunt-q3z thank you Sascha! I do my best!
Beautiful blues playing astounding, love the spaghetti western bit to.🤩👍
@@alastair6356 thank you Alastair! Tune in in half an hour for an interview with Jeremy Jenkins himself!
Beautiful guitar and with Lame Horse build quality is of course bound to be excellent. I could do without the black velvet painting looking tiger, but LOVE the tone!
@@TheCurtissJohnson Thanks for watching Curtiss! Characterful guitars will always divide opinion with the aesthetics but there’s no arguing with the sound
Absolutely! I’ll admit I’m a traditionalist. Not in to blingy guitars. Just picked up my first Michael Bashkin guitar. That speaks to my style predilections. That said, the Le Tigre has a sound I love.
What great sounds!!
@@michaelallen1966 Glad you enjoyed it Michael!
I do have a wonderful set of ziricote which is 32 years old. Sides and backs are large enough even for a jumbo guitar. I also bought a fitting carpathian spruce top together with the ziricote set. As I am too old now for a new guitar built with that wonderful tonewood somebody else can get IT. Just write write a message and we'll see...No cracks, no splitting, No wormholes, no blemishes, edges are sealed perfectly with a bit of wax.
OK I'm getting one
@@willunderwood7326 Good idea!
Aloha Michael! Nice guitar. Mahalo
@@victorbeebe8372 Mahalo Victor!
That guitar does everything!!!!
It even brought back memories of the epic Kostal/MDW road trip.
@@paulboden7850 ha ha glad you caught that one Paul!
That is a highly original instrument. The acoustic sonics are excellent.which belies its looks.
@@enigmabletchley6936 well it has to sound good too - I wouldn’t have had it on the channel just because it had a tiger. Well I might. I like tigers. 🐯
@@MichaelWatts RUclips offered me links to other demonstrations of Lame Horse guitars and these guys really know how to create a sonic masterpiece in wood.
Sounds good, aesthetics are a matter of taste.
@@jeffhildreth9244 a very balanced approach Jeff
Sounds great
It's right on the edge of giving those sounds that make a thinline not sound that great, but it just doesn't do it. Weird. Has a great sound. 👍
Has little bit of a resonator sound ,I like it .
@@bbb12228 yes! I noticed that too!
Responsive and unique sounding. Love to see a workingman's version of this
Ziricote and Maple 🤔. I may have to find a way test that theory. I have a feeling that guitar would be a beast paired with a metal slide.
@@jamesturtle I declined the opportunity to prove how hard I suck on slide…
Joe Zawinul wrote Mercy, Mercy, Mercy.
@@WesFanMan he did indeed!
Funny freaky beast.👍🏇🔥
Are you saying it has DSP effects built in? Kind of unclear. Or just volume and tone
@@BertoBoyd I’m pretty sure that there was never any intimation of built in Fx… this is just volume and tone…
Sounds great especially as an electric guitar. The apearance is not really to my taste but the sound is. Ps nice playing!!
@@PhilTaylorGuitar thank you very much Phil!
The stage guitar that can do it all. Not sure introverted folky-types would cope with the aesthetics…
@@terrywright7893 it’s a quandary but this is pitched at the country/americana/psychedelic community and as such I think it’s spot on!
@ I was being a tad facetious: it’s most certainly not targeted at crusty folkies. 😉
Shouldn’t that be “El Tigre” if it’s from Texas?
@@danielschaeffer1294 this is a French tiger on holiday alors!
@@MichaelWatts merde...
Cajun tigre? 🐯🐯🐯
If my wife lets me get one will it make help sound like Michael?! ;-)
@@JimB802 it worked for me!
Jim, I can assure you that you will sound exactly like Michael if you have one of these! ha ha
Mercy Mercy is JOE ZAWINUL!
@@markpassell8379 it is indeed! We have been gently educated
Gotta say that pick guard is not working for me. The rest of the guitar is very cool.
@@dalgguitars would you have preferred it in metallic purple? I see your point!
@dalguitars, the tiger can be any color! I also prefer the clear pickguard.
@ You are right, clear would be best.
