Fate, the game where you spend three days fishing and become a god. Oh, and the Inheritance mechanic is real cool. Take a basic weapon and pass it down a few generations and suddenly you have excalibur.
Don't do it with a weapon. Use a ring or a low level belt or something. Those are cheap to enchant and you can gamble up some extremely broken gear. High level weapons are super expensive to enchant if you do it more than once or twice. A ring you can enchant two dozen times and luck out and get a laundry list of good stats longer than your entire screen. The higher level you are the more broken stats you can get. If you pass that down a couple of times you suddenly have a ring that quadruples your health, makes you run twice as fast, hit twice as a fast, life steals 20%, adds a lot of damage to a particular weapon type, reduces damage by 30% etc.

You just awoke some memories in me that I hadn't thought about in years. I remember playing this game on I think my uncle computer years ago, something like over a decade ago when I was still a child, when my family was staying over at his house for some reason I can't remember. There was something like a game launcher preinstalled on it with a demo for this game, and bunch of others. I can't believe this is one of the games you're reviewing, it's like something out of a half forgotten dream for me.
Im just happy you played the game, I used to save scum while enchanting my weapons and armor until I got the best stats for them. I personally think its the best way to play the game cause you can get aforementioned “god slayers” by just enchanting but its expensive and can take a while. Tips for you seer: -dont invest into attack magic that much. Most of the spells are bad except for a select couple like muffle. Defense magic and charm magic are overpowered and are worth investing in. (This only changes late endgame which no one has the time or patience for) -Summon builds are cool but can be countered if your enemy has dispel summons or muffle. -Shield builds provide your best shot at melee survival. -Ranged builds are IMO better than melee because its easier to avoid large damage and can hit off screen. -Get enough vitality so you never run out of stamina. -Beware mind beasts. -Fish. There is a fishing spot in town as well as spots in dungeons where you can just fish and get random stuff. -Your pet in FATE 1 is basically useless, but there are a couple of fish that can transform your pet to at least be able to cast helpful spells. -FATE wasn’t meant to be played on the hardest difficulty first. The real endgame of FATE (which no one gets to because not a lot of people know what the endgame even is) is retiring and passing down an heirloom item so many times that it becomes stupidly broken and you then deep delve with said god slayer.
im so happy this video exists this was my favorite game as a kid and i still play it occasionally to this day. wish they would remaster it and bring it to switch!
I am in love with this series! Just recently picked up an ARPG by the name of Chronicon. I think it's still currently on sale, or at least it was when I purchased. I'm sure it's already on your list while looking for the best but if it isn't, maybe pick it up now that it's on sale! Looking forward to next video
@@seer6251 chronicon story is pretty shit, game is only fun for theorycrafting but has low variety I really like it for what it is, def worth the price and dev is very cool
I use to mod my game, a couple simple text edits and you can make any monster type in the game your pet and it isn't just cosmetic so you can run around with the final boss as your pet.
As someone who grew up with FATE, you were playing wrong. On Legend difficulty, fishing is the name of the game! Fishes fished in the dungeon can be FLAWLESS and permanently upgrade your pet! Your pet is your aggro taker! If you're running range or magic, you want your pet to be omega roided so that you can get further back and deal your damage. With magic, you gotta get that attack magic stat omega high! Or the charm magic, the cursed blades are a sick summon. Fishing can net you artifacts (the golden items), gemstones, and accessories. And the artifacts sell for shit loads of cash. It was so fun seeing this video existed. FATE has been a fun game for my whole family for our whole lives, and we always come back to it. There are also three more games, my favourite being the second one. This video is a treat, and I hope you don't give up on FATE just yet!
This game was made by Travis Baldree and was a Popcap game if you remember those. This was also the game he made before going on to make the first and second Torchlight games.
I remember playing fate on my dad's laptop, I'll never forget the times me and my brother had one character and we were so scared of going into the dungeon especially at level 4 and upwards because the monsters were either tough or overwhelming, so we just got to level 3 and try to fish rare items and sell it to the weapons dealer, then i remember messing around with the keyboard and accidentally actived the levelup cheat 😂
I honestly still find myself returning to Fate every now and then. It's the only WildTangent I've ever purchased, and it's because of how awesome it was just playing the demo over and over again as a kid on the family computer. Definitely one of my most nostalgic games, so I'm glad it's still purchasable today!
Fate the cursed king let’s you add an npc ally at lvls 10,20, and 30 you can choose from 3 randomly generated ones that are re rolled every time you visit the merc shop or use your other saved characters with all their gear, spells, and skills. My last play through was as an azure wizard casting group buffs on a duel weapons orc, elf archer who became dps MONSTERS with high level buffs Also difficulty changes the level of monsters on different floors. On legendary I think enemies start at level seven and on page they start at level 1
I remember playing Fate a long time ago, I might have to get it again. Great game. Edit a month later... I bought it from steam and I still love the Fate games.
I still remember when my dad got his first laptop and we discovered the original Fate was installed by default. Fast forward almost twenty years and I still love this series.
You got up to level like 5 for free then it charged. One of the single best games as an child. Charging in on very hard and finding it very hard is very silly
The best thing about this game is that If you decide you don't feel like being an adventurer anymore and instead take up fishing then you will soon become a God.
Modded the hell out of this game back in the day. At one time all the WoW monsters were actually imported into Fate! There was a 'Teenager' mod that made the character look more like Link and less like a dwarf. Multiplayer would have made this game more epic... Good times. Brain makes the best pet!
after playing some time, the meta is fishing before enter the dungeon, the 250 golds you get you can spend 200 in the fishing rod, then fish for like 15 mins and you can get very good items that can give you a lot of gold, you equip and you can go to the dungeon. once you have some money, like 100k you can craft for profit. i dont remember which items because i played like 10 years ago but you bought some bases and enchant them(with the NPCs of the town) and if you are using the correct ones, i remember using boots and lances, you can make a looooooott of gold.
I love your summary of this game as "a sandbox ARPG full or random crap." I played the demo for this game as a kid, and recently finished the game as an adult. And I can verify everything you said in this video is true.
For those wondering, the team who made Fate worked with people from the Diablo team from Diablo 1 and 2 to make the Torchlight series... so that's why they're similar, lol
Such a cool game with some of its mechanics. I wish they made one with better graphics better art design but keep those mechanics and dungeon system and gear system.
this is basically the first Arpg I have ever played got it on a cd as a demo way back . I loved it. the game is pretty complex and the eldrich horror boss is always randomized as well as the level in dungeon he spawns on. the game is barebones in some aspects such as most potions do not stack . I am glad this review exists thank you
I grew up on this game. I remember playing one evening after school when Pump It by the Black Eyed Peas had just dropped (my sister blasting it in the background). Loved Fate, glad to see they added it on Steam
FUN FATE BUG ALERT!!! Seer fun bug that works in the second and/or third games (I think it’s fixed in cursed king, or at least I never got it to work). You probably saw that you have a summon cap of 6. And you can buff the level of your summons with charm magic skill points. In the second game they added a summon called “Ghost Valkyrie” this summon has spells. If you level up your charm skill high enough your ghost Valkyrie will have enough mana to summon its OWN MINIONS who’s level increases with the Ghost (it gets more skill points!) Summon necro summoning summon necro. You’ll probably not enjoy it long term, but you got see it once
I remember years ago my dad finally got an office job after being a self employed logger for years. I was maybe 12 at the time and his work gave him a laptop. For whatever reason this game was loaded onto the laptop. He wasnt into games at all, but knew I was getting into them. I was grinding runescape for hours back then. He let me play this on his laptop. Looking back, it was such a nice gesture.
To beat the game on nightmare, you have to create extremely powerful gear, by enchanting low level gear over and over, and getting full sockets on each piece of gear, then adding flawless gems on each piece of gear. You need lotssss of money to do this, but you can get tons of money by fishing gold items, or by saving up unenchanted items, then enchanting them, then selling the enchanted items, which makes you tons of money. You can also reset shops by saving, exiting, and rejoining. you can be all around super powerful using this method, in any fate game (1-4).
I love your videos man, hilarious super interesting and super well edited all at the same time haha keep up the great work man your stuff is great cant wait for the next one
Yooo this was my true intro to games. I found it as a free trial on my PC, and played all day and night until the trial ended. When I was older and was given surprise birthday money for the first and last time, I bought Fate: The Cursed King and Age of Empires. My sister and I played every day after school until my parents would flip out. I found the game today in a bin of DVDs after watching the Dungeons and Dragon's movie (made me think of it) and played it for the first time in years!! It is still so good. And the first thing I did was fish and get rich
A pure summoner build gets pretty powerful pretty quickly (more Charm Skill literally equals higher leveled summons for longer), and socketing mana regen gems makes it even smoother. I tried running a single character through all 4 games (the Steam version of Fate exports a lot more smoothly than the original version did), and I've gotten to Cursed King. Running down 40 flights of stairs 3 times in Undiscovered Realms and Traitor Soul was a bearable triathlon because each run was connected to a different hub, but in Cursed King, I'm staring at 4 flights of stairs, all from the same hub, and doing just that tires me out before I even jump back into one.
I played this game as a kid, during an era where i was barely allowed to play any amount of time at all, and fucking loved it. (But was really bad at it) It came with windows vista on our new pc, and I too remembered it only as a nostalgic fever dream. Last summer i remembered that it existed, booted it up (on legendary of course), and having played a thousand hours of path of exile- I immediately discovered that you can exploit the shops for infinite money, and that the dude who enchants affixes on your equipment basically has no cap, and does the first few for peanuts. Knowing what I needed to do, I fished up a few legendaries for starting capital, spent a few hours rolling hard on some decent tier equipment for spell damage, cast speed, +attack spells, movespeed, and mana sustain modifiers in that order, and after i realized that it was optimal to spam the lvl 1 hitscam spells on rotation, i blew literally everything in the game up in like half an hour, and got promptly bored. 😂
I used to play the fate games when I was a child, I wasn't able to find much info on it until it and it's sequals on steam, so glad someone is shedding light on this weird piece of my childhood.
fate is a weird great game, fondly remembering the late game. definitely missed the fishing that can let your pet really tank, which helps a ton. things scale really strongly in this game which is fun
I bought an old tower a couple years ago on a whim - there was a few things already installed, but I recall one of them being the H.P Games app. I booted up Fate without much thought and before I knew it I'd lost an entire evening. This game is definitely ahead of it's time.
This game had a free demo pre-installed into computers back in the game. We had emachine brand computer and a launcher called wild tangent, (looked like a purple boomerang), had a bunch of other cool games but fate was cool
Fate is very cool and has lots of expansions too. The one thing i remember to be interesting is that you have a npc that can enchant your itens for a piece of gold, but if that fails, it gives you negative buff. It also is kinda infinite enchanting. I used omatic to give me milions of gold to test it and i end up with a sword that had all the screen covered with bonuses.
Shocked and appalled he made it all the way without mentioning fishing ONCE. Shame it's such a grind to get the Cheesehat.

Im just happy you played the game, I used to save scum while enchanting my weapons and armor until I got the best stats for them. I personally think its the best way to play the game cause you can get aforementioned “god slayers” by just enchanting but its expensive and can take a while. Tips for you seer:
-dont invest into attack magic that much. Most of the spells are bad except for a select couple like muffle. Defense magic and charm magic are overpowered and are worth investing in. (This only changes late endgame which no one has the time or patience for)
-Summon builds are cool but can be countered if your enemy has dispel summons or muffle.
Seer!! Stoked to see a new video up! Liking and commenting before I even watch it.
Fate is literally my first ARPG. This video brings back so much nostalgia.
I played the free demo version of this so much, back when HP computers came with the wild tangent game store
im so happy this video exists this was my favorite game as a kid and i still play it occasionally to this day. wish they would remaster it and bring it to switch!
I am in love with this series! Just recently picked up an ARPG by the name of Chronicon. I think it's still currently on sale, or at least it was when I purchased. I'm sure it's already on your list while looking for the best but if it isn't, maybe pick it up now that it's on sale! Looking forward to next video
I'm really glad you enjoy! Chronicon is definitely on my list, looking forward to playing it myself!
@@seer6251 chronicon story is pretty shit, game is only fun for theorycrafting but has low variety
I really like it for what it is, def worth the price and dev is very cool
@@GusZiliotto so the same as every modern arpg :) I really like Chronicon, better Diablo 3 than Diablo 3.
@@mirkiekishka yeee its pretty fun to get into, late game just stale but still fun for brain off map popping
I literally have no idea why I still love this game so much. Possibly the endless nature of it is what intrigued me so much
This game was on our school computers back in 2010/2011 when I was in middle school. I remember playing the shit out of it
This is the one game I played more than anything with my mom when I was so really young.
My mom made me play the game " hide the sausage" it was really fun
@@EdgarStyles1234 are we supposed to laugh or something?
Never take that for granted. I would give anything just for one of my parents to play a video game with me
@@sepg5084 lmao wtf the randomness of it was funny
@@Solidsnake856 Agreed
I love this video man; this proves that you can be entertaining with just your voice and some gameplay and not needing a face cam. Great job dude
I use to mod my game, a couple simple text edits and you can make any monster type in the game your pet and it isn't just cosmetic so you can run around with the final boss as your pet.
I have a fast weapon that does 130 average 92% attack speed and 37% lifesteal. This is the most fun I've ever had
This series is by far some of the most entertaining content on RUclips.
11:18 I'm glad you made a reference to The Brave Little Toaster in a video about one of my favorite games of all time
This game was made by Travis Baldree and was a Popcap game if you remember those.
Dang, you're right. Fate is like Torchlight 0.999999. Actually a little embarrassed for the Perfect World team tbh.
I honestly still find myself returning to Fate every now and then. It's the only WildTangent I've ever purchased, and it's because of how awesome it was just playing the demo over and over again as a kid on the family computer. Definitely one of my most nostalgic games, so I'm glad it's still purchasable today!
Seeing this was like a blast from the past. The first ARPG game I ever played as a child. This game sparked my love for ARPGs, it was my favorite.
I’ve been waiting for your next video!! Excited to watch!
Fate the cursed king let’s you add an npc ally at lvls 10,20, and 30 you can choose from 3 randomly generated ones that are re rolled every time you visit the merc shop or use your other saved characters with all their gear, spells, and skills.
My last play through was as an azure wizard casting group buffs on a duel weapons orc, elf archer who became dps MONSTERS with high level buffs
Also difficulty changes the level of monsters on different floors. On legendary I think enemies start at level seven and on page they start at level 1
Your videos are hilarious, man. Going to go through them all. I love all these games so that certainly helps
I'm really enjoying this series, hope you keep it going.
I remember playing Fate a long time ago, I might have to get it again. Great game. Edit a month later... I bought it from steam and I still love the Fate games.
What the fuck why is this the highest effort let's play/review I've ever seen.
That's incredibly kind of you to say, thank you! I aim to please I suppose, lol
I still remember when my dad got his first laptop and we discovered the original Fate was installed by default. Fast forward almost twenty years and I still love this series.
I remember playing this back in the day. It was incredibly easy, and I did eventually make a weapon insanely powerful.
You got up to level like 5 for free then it charged. One of the single best games as an child. Charging in on very hard and finding it very hard is very silly
God damn love Fate. Such a charming and nostalgic game. Thank you for talking about something I thought no one knew about
I remember playing the demo for this game as a kid. I bought it on Steam a few years back and it's actually quite fun!
I LOVED this game growing up 🤩 you gotta try the spin offs!!
The best thing about this game is that If you decide you don't feel like being an adventurer anymore and instead take up fishing then you will soon become a God.
Basically Diablo for kids. It’s an old gem regardless from my childhood.
HOLY, this video just unlocked a core memory for me, I remember playing this when i was young.
I love your summary of this game as "a sandbox ARPG full or random crap."
I played the demo for this game as a kid, and recently finished the game as an adult. And I can verify everything you said in this video is true.
For those wondering, the team who made Fate worked with people from the Diablo team from Diablo 1 and 2 to make the Torchlight series... so that's why they're similar, lol
Didn't realize until now that Torchlight ripped off Fate, even the Heritage Item System. Great video as always!
That's because it's the same devs working under a new (well new when TL was released) studio
@@ambridge6645 Actually, I can imagine many things.
This series is awesome. You are killing it!
4:20 - "But through enough scrounging..." aka: let Spotonmyass the dog tank damage for you 😅
Such a cool game with some of its mechanics.
I am glad this review exists thank you
Hey back in 2005 this was legendary
The music of this game is chef kiss. It comes from old medieval music composed by Turlough
I grew up on this game. I remember playing one evening after school when Pump It by the Black Eyed Peas had just dropped (my sister blasting it in the background). Loved Fate, glad to see they added it on Steam
Please make a sequel to all the fate games, they were part of my childhood, and all your commentary was completely accurate :D
This was my introduction to gaming when our family got our first PC back in the 2000's. It was a demo though, but i played the hell out of it.
banger as usual you never disappoint sir.
If you level up your charm skill high enough your ghost Valkyrie will have enough mana to summon its OWN MINIONS who’s level increases with the Ghost (it gets more skill points!)
Summon necro summoning summon necro. You’ll probably not enjoy it long term, but you got see it once
Haha, that is amazing. I'm totally going to look into doing this with the other Fate games, I love the sound of a huge army.
I used to play fate a shit ton on my first computer when I was like 6 years old miss it
Probably where my love of terrible balance and exploiting comes from
This and borderlands
Some of the Later entries in the Fate Series is quite good. TRAITOR soul was a banger
decades ago, i had a demo version of this on my dad's PC. i LOVED this game as a kid.
My mom used to love this game!!! No one remembered what it was called.
Thank you!
Recently got back into it and spamming fish to my pet on the lower difficulties works like a charm in the beginning game
(But was really bad at it)
It came with windows vista on our new pc, and I too remembered it only as a nostalgic fever dream.
I used to play the fate games when I was a child, I wasn't able to find much info on it until it and it's sequals on steam, so glad someone is shedding light on this weird piece of my childhood.
same, had to have the brother run the potions and spells cause we couldn't figure out how to use a full keyboard and mouse at the same time.
I played a demo of this YEARS ago
I remember fishing to transform my dog into an overpowered dire wolf, gargoyle, and a dragon
Yeah Fate was made by the same people that created Torchlight. Also there's like a bunch of sequels to Fate If I remember correctly.
fate is a weird great game, fondly remembering the late game. definitely missed the fishing that can let your pet really tank, which helps a ton. things scale really strongly in this game which is fun
There’s a nice magic tool to make that activation message go away.
I need to buy a computer so I can buy and play this, I’m so crazy about this game so I can re live the memories
I remember playing this as a kid, going past 100 encountering some big ass dragons, always using the crossbow with knockbacks.
I played FATE in my journey to get 100% achievements in as many ARPG as possible. I can legitimately say that I enjoyed it more than Diablo 3.
