Now it makes sense why Jim Caviezel said that he had to go to daily Mass to stay out of Hollywood.
Remember Justin Bieber in your prayers
Yes - hopefully he will concentrate on his new baby and family life. Also hope he gets the help he needs to work through his experiences.
He has said some things lately that suggests he is out of it and has grown up. He was taken advantage of.
I do, and all of the other unfortunate souls sucked up by the Hollywood system at an age too young to possibly understand what they are really getting into - and most of their parents are not protecting them.
For what will it profit a man if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life?
I feel a lot of (not all) material Hollywood puts out is morally off. It makes me think if this is the stuff they put out on the public, imagine how they behave in private!
epstein island. nuff said
Yes Hollywood can be weird!!
Agreed. Long ago are the days they had movies like White Christmas. They were corrupted much in the same fashion the Church was and is corrupted in some form or another. Dr. Petersen said it best. “Evil seeks to corrupt that which is most good.” - I agree with him on this.
It’s not just Hollywood. Every month we hear about multiple teachers preying on children or some kids coach and whatnot.
It’s rampant in my opinion or at least feels that way
Your innocence is almost envious. Once you go down the rabbit hole, there's no turning back. This is hardly the tip of the iceberg. And it's 99% of Hollywood. ✡️
Theve infected Asian media now, too. Asian media was wholesome only 20 years ago.
"Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;"
The other side of the coin is, "my responsibility, my responsibility, absolutely my responsibility."
I remember when I was young and silly enough to believe that we all start out as blank slates and that I had become corrupted only by the world around me.
Also education said that is what reality was. Which is far from the truth.
Thanks! Brian ,you've explained this so clearly and completely, without aggression or disrespect but with gentleness.
What grown man would willingly give himself the name P. Diddy?
Someone who thinks they're just THAT level of awesome that they can get away with literally everything; even down to having a stupid name.
a delusional one.
exactly what I was thinking bro was confessing this whole time
And people still doubt sin is real.
One of the many errors of Protestantism!
Maybe it's just because I'm fond of both bands whose members I'm about to mention, but from 8:19 to 8:30, where you listed infidelity right next to deaths of despair, I immediately had the image in my mind of Dave Grohl and Kurt Cobain. Dave, God bless and forgive him, in spite of his "wholesome rockstar" persona, and having a seemingly happy marriage with young children, basically threw it all away recently in exchange for a fling that resulted in a child out of wedlock. And that self-destruction is tragically similar to his best friend Kurt, God bless and forgive him, 30 years previously. Kurt also seemed to have everything the culture could have offered him, but he threw away his very life in a drug-fueled despair.
Perhaps some might think this is overly-sentimental, but I think whenever we see a celebrity embroiled in some scandal, we should simply say "there but for the grace of God go I", because no fallen human is really meant to deal with what our culture puts celebrities through, often simply for our own entertainment. Though those celebrities are not at all pleasing to God in their behavior, it's worth remembering they are still just as beloved by God as you or I. Righteously condemn detestable behavior, but, I guess the principle of "forgive them, they know not what they do" can apply here.
Dave didn't have a fling. He had a mistress.
@@MrSottobanco Good clarification, thank you
".....And you shall be gods...." The words of original temptation that lead to original sin. Words that echo in the ears of us all. The outcome of which is a fallen nature divided against itself. If you want to see the evidence of that look in one of two places: out the front window or in the mirror.
Very insightful. Pertinent observations. I hope this video gets many, many views. Great work, Brian 🩵
Along this same lines, I encourage everyone to look up the interview of Zachary King with Padre Pergrino. It will explain alot about our current secular, popular, world. Hopefully this comment doesn't get censored.
I have enough deprivation watching prot apologists on RUclips. I don't need Hollywood.
Amen to that.
I want to be a social media influencer! Which means essentially, I hope to be paid *a lot* of money for having produced essentially nothing of human worth for society. That sounds like...
Not all social media influencers are making useless content.
@@carolinpurayidom4570yeah they are, it’s only worth something because we think it does. Content is imaginary and you can’t really do anything with it in the physical world. It is useless, if it didn’t keep us entertained in some way.
As a Gen Z, I feel like no one is teaching us how to produce anything of value! I feel like past generations had better woodshop and home economics classes. So much of high school is now just a pipeline to university where we will all be encouraged to major in grievance studies.
There are just too many of us who weren't taught how to cook, or how to drive, or how to use a hammer and screw driver. Parents let their kids live on social media, and that is all that they know and see.
@@friedawells6860 Thanks for your reply. I could not agree more. Just today - a Saturday - I was in my local middle school where I noticed that the previous woodworking shop had been dismantled and replaced with a 'technology' and 'engineering lab' where the kids will assemble bits and program them, will they develop any mechanical aptitude or common sense? No.
Your Gen X parents, God love them, have no confidence in themselves, or you to actually make anything physical or practical. All they seem to understand is seeking status by signing up for agendas.
There is a deep mechanical intuition that one can develop a young age about how forces act in three dimension upon physical bodies by making things, by taking mechanical things apart, and *not* being able to put them back together.
The problem is, and it is a real problem, is that it is easier to abstract *up* from the level of the physical and mechanical, than to concretize *down* from the level of the abstract to the physical and mechanical.
This is a good premise. There are too many instances of people denied fame because they are Christian. The rare ones allowed like Mathhew McConnaughey dont have any dirt on them to be be blackmailed or ousted. The Adversary offers celebrity status as a reward for giving into original sin.
Mconnauhey is not to be lauded.
@@RickW-HGWT Im not. But hes outspoken about everything, hes not a punk.
@@oodo2908 not to be lauded does not equal calling someone " a punk " poor response and reasoning.
@@RickW-HGWT No, it doesnt. Nor did I call him a punk. I said he was not one.
The real fault in reasoning was yours to assume he was lauded in the first place. You made the assumption that there was admiration. Where is that admiration, because I gave no compliment.
I find that most complaints begin with poor English comprehension.
Im sorry, I have a few keyboard keys not working.
Outstanding video, many could benefit from hearing this!
Diddy the diddler strikes again
God bless you brother
"You'll be like gods"
The ammount of power and adoration a celebrity have is disproportionate to the human condition. They really must feel like gods.
A dear protestant friend of mine told me that there is no more Original Sin since the time of Jesus’s Resurrection. I was shocked. Never heard that one before. I am very glad that you made this video because much of the logic that you presented can form the basis of conversation with him hopefully.
Maybe he means after baptism we lose it? Anyway, it's somewhat true. But what we lose is not the original sin, but part of it's influence and it's eternal implications by acquiring back the same rights we would have not lost should our first parents had not sinned.
As a protestant myself I have to admit that the average Protestant has pretty terrible theology.
@benry007 that's complete nonsense. No.protestant ever said that. Catholicism is the definition of bad theology by the way. Praying to Mary, praying to "saints", forgiveness of sins by a priest, the bread and wine being the literal blood and body of Christ after the priest literally calls Him down from heaven to be sacrificed day after day. It's a sickening cult.
That's a story that never happened. Name me one source from a protestant that ever said that. It's true that our sin is forgiven when we are born again. Read your Bible. The pope isn't your authority. The word of God is.
If there's no original sin then we live in a perfect world with no gluttony, hatred, jealousy, deceit or suffering.
When my children were younger I was told I should put them in commercials. I said DEFINITELY NOT I didn’t want my children in that world.
I'm very sympathetic to the concept of original sin and certainly to the belief in God espoused by the speaker, but I think another theory explains human failing just as well or better: survival instincts evolved to overcome resource scarcity.
This is a totally layman's speculative take but basically, if you believe in evolution, humans have primarily adapted to fairly harsh environments were resource acquisition was not guaranteed. Consequently, natural and sexual selection have rewarded individuals who are most adept at acquiring both direct resources (food, shelter, mates) and more recently proxy resources (money, status, fame). Because in the past, failure in these domains might mean not just a lack of procreation, but potentially an early death.
However, more recently our adaptations have allowed us to partially "beat" nature and produce resource abundance and excess. So while our very distant ancestors might have made their names by hunting and killing enough meat for the tribe to survive for a season, the most successful humans alive today can acquire enough wealth to potentially provide for literally millions of people (directly or indirectly).
Not only that, but we can create exaggerations of resources previously unimagined. For example, a fast food meal that might offer an entire day's caloric needs in one sitting (but with 50x the dopamine hit of any food known to primeval man).
Basically, our hardware evolved to seek out and consume as many resources as possible, but only very recently did we finally start creating a resource excess where this insatiable drive for achievement and consumption actually isn't necessary. So our instincts just haven't had time to catch up with our environment. Many of us just haven't evolved the discipline to avoid the excess "resources" (i.e. indulgences) that we can now create. And those of us who struggle with this the most are then thought of as the least moral. (Because our psychology hasn't updated to a resource abundant rather than resource scarce environment.)
I think "original sin" is a pretty good symbol/metaphor for this self-destructive instinct within our very sophisticated life form, but I think the (attempted) evolutionary psychology explanation I tried to describe provides a more detailed mechanism for why people behave badly (in most cases).
"survival instincts evolved to overcome resource scarcity." I find that much more credible than the idea that a god exists.
@@TboneWTF Maybe. But I don't think these are mutually exclusive concepts. I personally believe in both.
@@johnrogstad1278 " I personally believe in both." LOL. I'm sure you do, but can you offer evidence that your god is real? Good luck.
In the UK a TV presenter, named Philip Schofield, was relieved of his job earlier this year by the ITV network. This followed a period were he declared he was homosexual on the show he hosted, cheating on his wife of over twenty years and then allegations that he had groomed his male 'partner' as a child - who, we then learned, got a job on the show Schofield hosted. Schofield is now back on TV.
Thank you Brian for your wisdom, this is how a christian should talk about this.
This is very interesting and thought-provoking. Thank you, Brian
The Old Testament affirms this dogma.
Right on, brother! 👏🏻 I come from generations of Catholics from Ireland and my dad was the eldest of ten, nine brothers and one sister (who became a nun). Their mother was Mother-of-the-Year of the state of Virginia in 1966. I have five sisters and one brother. Sadly my brother thinks most people in the world are good. He won’t listen to me when I tell him there is only One good! Maybe he’ll listen to you! 🤞🏻
" I come from generations of Catholics" And if you had been born in the middle east you would have come from generations of Muslims. Religion is taught and learned. it doesn't come from god it is taught by people.
Excellent observations. Celebrity and wealth combined with human nature can be its own cross of a sort. We need to remember that, to make allowances for others original sin as well as for our own whilst guarding against it.
The lust for Fame has long been known to be one of the great human temptations.
Fame offers us the opportunity to become an idol. Even an illusory promise of immortality.
It is a temptation commonest in decadent societies with more money than sense.
It is a driving force within false religious teachers and false prophets.
Original Sin frustrates me to no end. I mean, I've accepted it as fact, but just to know that it will always be there. Life will always be difficult. I have it through no fault of my own, but the things I do because of it ARE my fault. It's not fair! Just something to try not to think about, I guess....
@10:40 "The more sexual indulgence is available to you, the more inflamed and exotic your appetite becomes."
This is such an underappreciated point. We are told from puberty now (or younger sadly) that we need to be "exploring" our sexual appetites. That we need to be actively trying to cultivate more perverse sexual appetites within ourselves because they are part of our "identity."
We are told that this will bring us greater freedom, but really, it just brings enslavement to our sexual appetites. So many young men are enslaved to p*rn, and so many young people don't even consider it possible to live without masturbation.
I truly used to think that way, and I am so happy since God gave me freedom from it began to restore my purity of mind and heart.
I think you've offered a false dichotomy for the source of human immorality. There's a third option : Guilt, for example, evolved as an evolutionary adaptation directly related to social group behavior in early hominids. Assuming this model, we are not broken, but rather constantly in a state of evolving. We are never standing still, we are always evolving. Always changing, always moving toward something. "Broken" is definitely the wrong word. Some of the more enlightened Catholic thinkers have even picked up on this idea of "moving toward" in what is called evolutionary theology. Chardin for example did not believe in the original sin.
Some day I would like a Catholic to explain what the mechanism for original sin is? What's the actual mechanism by which it gets transferred?
I don't think you can ignore biology on this topic. It's too crucial.
Finally, original sin comes largely from St Paul and St Augustine, who largely contradicted Jesus on many topics. I can post a list if you want or you can just go search out one of Bart Ehrman's videos. Before I became a lapsed Catholic that was very problematic for me.
I had one more thought... Your videos would be much more effective and interesting if you pick a specific target and discuss it in depth. Please stop referring vaguely to " those people." Instead of saying "Many critics say..." just the name the person. Name the person, name the exact argument, and give the source!
Just face it Brian. You need celebrity bad behaviour. It makes the Catholic church look good.
I think this is why I am so drawn to asceticism. If we can deprive our selves of material luxuries, delicious foods, and entertainment, we are better equipped to resist the temptations of our sinful nature.
What happened to these celebrities? I'm almost afraid to ask.
This one is a masterpiece, Brian. Great work! I love your apologetics.
-from a fellow Albertan :)
'A lot of adiction and anxiety can be traced to that cause (unresolved guilt)'. Are you serious? Where does this assertion come from?
'According to more than a few surveys I've seen' most GenZ's want to be social media influencers ... ' What surveys? Even if you've 'seen' them, doesn't it beg the question of what you haven't seen?
Surely the Justin Beaver song is an counter example to your thesis about celebrity? Doesn't it fit into a more likely thesis that we're often idiots when we are young and get wiser as we grow in age and experience? That phenomenon is particulary relevent to those who are thrust into fame and fortune.
Finally, the evidence surely points to the fact that what the church offers does not protect us from 'original sin'. We know this because so many people on the inside, the ordained ones, committed the most egrerious sins on an industrial scale knowing that their leaders would either protect them or turn a blind eye. This was (and is) not some 'a few bad apples' phenomenon, it goes to the heart of church teaching -- loving the most vulnerable in our community -- and the church failed catastrophically.
Why would we want to have anything to do with an organisation like that? It is as morally currupt as any 'celebrity phenomenon'.
Isn't our original sin really our god-complex which in turn was actually that part of us which was designed to sync with God?
Remember this sermon when you reach 1 million subscribers….wish you well.
This is the best explanation as to why we now tend to blame outwards those failures that are ours

Godspeed!
I find the description of "fallen man" in Catholic tradition pretty accurate. However, I do not buy the origin story about a primeval disobedience by the first two humans infecting all the rest. The world of struggle, scarcity and contingency into which homosapians emerged requires our flaws as well as our virtues; otherwise we'd never have survived.
" I do not buy the origin story ..." Do you buy the Great Flood fable? or how about the universe being created in 6 days? Immaculate Conception? Resurrection? Walking on water? Serpents and donkeys talking? Do those supposed events sound real to you?
We all fall short of God. Pretending we don’t is a grave sin many of us are guilty of. May the Lord have mercy
"We all fall short of God" prove your god is actually real. Good luck.

I am not sure there is an original sin. It would mean we are someway already guilty because of our birth. Moreover I do not think the fruit of the tree in Genesis needed to do anything in particular. Because it was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but as soon as Adam ate of it he sinned against the God who told him not to eat of it. So even if the fruit in itself might have brought no spiritual impact, Adam still sinned and demonstrated his ability to choose by himself evil over good.
I think original sin is the idea or progenetor of sin. Its taking actions God condones and perverting them. You can ask your neighbor for an apple, but if youre doing it to amass apples, thats greed. If you withold apples to the point of someones starvation, murder. Obviously an oversimplification, but you catch the drift?
To clarify, original sin isn’t sin proper. So it’s not something we did like adultery or apostasy. Rather, it’s something we lack. Something that should have been there at birth, Grace, that is no longer there due to the fall of our first parents.
Hence why Peter says, “baptism now saves you”. Baptism through baptismal regeneration washes away original sin I.e makes us now disposed to receive grace, to become adopted sons and daughters of God versus mere creatures. Romans 8, Galatians 4 and 2nd Corinthians.
Is this the only means? No. God can work extraordinarily such as the thief on the cross but for 99.9% of us, the normal means are the sacraments of the church.
Didnt the pope say the human race is by nature good? Its a complicated subject but i understood that original sin was corrupting
This Pope constantly says things that aren't true
1st: if he did, he wasn’t speaking infallibly
2nd: yes his constant attempts to satisfy this world is annoying, tiresome, and tarnishing his legacy
@@ChuckyLarms From the beginning Francis has said and taught things that are not even remotely Catholic. At the same time, he attacks the Deposit of Faith and its Mass and seeks to destroy both.
Humans, as creations of God, are inherently good, but because of original sin, we are also inherently corrupted. But because God is more powerful than sin, Catholics believe that, even though humans are incapable of not sining, humans are inherently good in terms of what we are, and not in our ability to be what we are.

Would one really want to be in communion with a church headed by a blatant heretic,
if catholicism is the way to fight sin through sacraments, why do practicing catholics still sin ? Should not their penchants change thanks to baptism, the eucharist, reconciliation etc.
Because we remain mortal on earth, the sacraments help but our fallen nature is still with us. All of us sin there is no magic or spiritual practice or object to prevent sinning.
The Catholic Church is a perfect church, full of imperfect people.
