  • THE HOTTEST TICKET IN DANCE. "SOLO FOR TWO IS COMING TO NYC AUGUST 7 & 8, 2015 @nycitycenter FEATURING THE WORLDS PRE-EMINENT DANCERS

Zeitgeist proved to be an outstanding example of Alastair Marriott’s work. Marriott’s choreography is varied and shows great understanding of the music he is setting. He made full use of the character and structure of Philip Glass’ Violin Concerto (a beautiful work in its own right and well-worth listening to if you’re not familiar with it), without appearing constrained by it, or merely to imitate the music. Marriott’s choreography for Osipova appears to show Rumba influences, which Osipova tackles with suitable sassiness. Watson and Osipova are as enthralling as partners as they are soloists and work seamlessly together, but the supporting trio seem (at times) a little under-rehearsed, as demonstrated every time they try to dance in unison. Marcelino Sambé (newly promoted to Soloist at the Royal Ballet this year) executed a stunning solo in the second movement: his rapid promotion is clearly well deserved (he only graduated into the Royal Ballet company in 2012).

Осипова ВЕЛИКОЛЕПНА! Чем больше я смотрю на ее работы, тем больше восхищаюсь. Никто в этом мире не любит и не умеет так танцевать, как Наташа!

Great talent Marcellino Sambè! And this piece is well suited to bring the woman to the limit.

How great that Mykhaylovsky invited Edward Watson for this night and filmed it for generations. This man is a real genius. But there are very few videos with him in internet. Royal Ballet is too enterpreneurial to share its stars for free. How many good streams here on YT were removed for posting even small fragments of RB performances...

You're saying Royal Ballet is entrepreneurial as if it was a flaw... they're one of the best companies in the world so I don't see why they shouldn't be. Thanks to that their principals can earn over 50 thousand a year - and I think you'll agree these dancers deserve that ;)

Wonderful dancers and beautiful choreography and music. Not very convinced with their costumes, hers looks like a microchip but she's such an expressive and strong dancer! Still think her best dancing partner was Polunin.

Alastair Marriott is the choreographer, the composer is Philip Glass, Royal Ballet is the Company. Title is Zeitgeist.

Actually, I liked the trio of men at the beginning so much better than Watson and Osipova because I think the choreography was much more the physical manifestation of the music, and it was utterly mesmerizing. I really do get tired of the tired choreography of plasticine limbs and trunks of male and female pairs which is supposed to be so “modern.” And their work shows nothing nearly as good and evocative as the trio’s movements, which were so good that I actually felt disappointed when Osipova leapt onstage. I didn’t want it to end, and she signaled the end, as I kept watching.
