  • This week, we've been testing the newly updated Etwow GT - and it's quite a thing. Jack explains why this scooter ticks every box that matters when looking for the perfect city commuter - and why you're so much safer on a higher quality scooter than a budget one.

      @@Nicholas.Tsagkos personally I had an electric scooter not etwow since 2019, and I've had zero problem with the police. I ride it pretty much everywhere(cycle lanes, pavements, roads and inside the city centre) the police don't even look at me. I think I even asked them once for directions (not kidding) lol and they didn't even ask me about the scooter. With that being said, it's still against the law I think as of today. 30/4/2021

    Thanks for the review. My thoughts:I own the GT 2019 version for 3 years now. Still a happy owner. Had some battery connector issues where it randomly disconnected from the battery controller after riding on cobble roads, but i was able to fix it by taping it with electrical tape. My version had no drum break but I upgraded that with an aftermarket drum brake set. Works fine now
    I haven’t had any issues climbing hills, still feels zippy, so i don’t have the same experience there.
    One downside: it is not waterproof. I use silicone around the battery compartment, but that is a risk i take. But it works for me. Never had any issues in the past years :)

    Got the etwow s+ (2019 sport model) last week and it’s a blast, not got the drum brake kickstand and power of the GT and the deck is a bit shorter but its the same scooter otherwise and was on offer at 349! So less than half the price of the GT that was itself on offer but for 895! Happy with my purchase as it’s my first e scooter. If you are doing longer trips and full on commuting get the GT maybe but for short trips and errands and short commutes the S+ will suit your needs👍🏻

    • @TehGureedo
      @TehGureedo 3 года назад +1

      It will not. There's no waterproofing out of the box. You theoretically can do it yourself by pouring sealant all over the electric components, but it's a rather difficult task (you need to disassemble the bloody thing and rebuild it again) and you really need to know what you are doing for it to actually work. Also, these tires are not particularly well suited for wet surfaces and may slip easily. Expect your face to get very well acquainted with the pavement if you ride in wet conditions.

    In my opinion scooters are dangerous over a certain speed. The center of gravity is so high that if you need to break suddenly, it is not possible and therefore it is not safe. Yes going faster is better in a traffic but when I hear 40km/h speed then I get scared. I think regulators should look into this because with this kind of speeds I expect serious injuries.
    Before someone mentions motorbikes, please consider the weight distribution and the other mechanics involved.
    If I was regulator I would say get a e-bike with the same amount of money which is overall so much more stable.

    • @chat-1978
      @chat-1978 4 года назад

      @coocola sure. I'm just not convinced that a scooter is safe especially for tall people with high center of gravity. Whenever I tried one, it felt that it can't stop compared to the worst bikes I've ever tried. Sure, better scooters break better but they also go faster. Bottom line physics don't offer comfort of mind.

    • @fauzi2014
      @fauzi2014 4 года назад

      True, if you need to go that fast, go with e bikes. Unless you’re in some scooter olympic or F1 series, do ride safely with your scooters.

    • @georgieman1910
      @georgieman1910 2 года назад

      Standing tall, stiff and upright is a no-no when it comes to riding escooters. You need to bend your knees and lift the heels up if you could, thereby giving yourself a much more flexible stance. Almost like a cat stance. When you stop you should sit into it to counter the forward momentum. The dangers of this type of vehicle isn’t really the stopping but the smaller, hard rubber wheels. Hard rubber wheels lose some traction on wet surfaces, esp metal so it’s important not to lean too much. Dips in the ground, potholes will present a problem if the smaller front wheel goes into it and gets stuck, throwing you off. Tubeless air filled tires, preferably larger the better are much safer.

    whats the ip rating?????

    • @georgieman1910
      @georgieman1910 2 года назад

      There is no IP rating but there are ways to make it almost highly water resistant. I’ve ridden mine in heavy torrential rain with no problems. I tape the underside of mine to keep water out of the rear suspension and in the front where the battery cover is. This helps prevent any splashes and resulting rust. Last thing you need is to replace a dead battery only to find out the bolts holding the battery cover are completely worn and rusted. What you really really need to protect is the delicate LCD readout on top because that circuit board can easily short out in rain and that thing is expensive to replace. For that a large clear grocery bag that covers the entire top assembly works perfectly. In fact I always keep a spare bag in my back pocket just in case the heavens decide to open up. Lastly, because these are solid rubber tires, you need to be careful and not lean too much in wet surfaces. Avoid going over slick ground or metal.

    Hello I don't want to abuse owners of this scooters ( if I do I'm sorry) but in my opinion looks very cheap if compared to Xiaomi, maybe is good but looks cheap sorry, range is same like Xiaomi, is faster but they will be illegal even if finally scooters will be finally legalized in UK, ok there is suspension on it and this is the biggest advantage over to Xiaomi but is worthy to pay double??? I don't think so there is much more better scooters for this price , this review looks for me not objective at all and seems to be sponsored

    no way is it worth £1k. it better be able to go atleast 30mph at that price, u're much better of getting a kaboo mantis or kugoo g2 pro for £700. there are similar scooters to this one at half the price. thanks for the review though.

    How tf are u comparing it with a Xiaomi if it is double the price? Mind blowing

      That jump up in price (in the context of the PLEV market isn't huge), and there's a genuine decision for people to make there - pay less for the Xiaomi and get a scooter that they might want to upgrade after a year. Or pay more for this and get a better quality scooter that lasts longer.
      We also made a video that compared the Onewheel Pint v.s. the Onewheel XR, which are $1000 apart, on a similar basis. Particularly with the market as nascent as this one, it's important to provide context around value for money, rather than just comparing things that are equal price points.

    I live in London and the Xiaomi 365 hits 25mph. Distance is 29km. No commuter escooters will be as fast as a car. You can really buy a Xiaomi if you want to I just feel this video kind of bashes the Xiaomi. These two escooters are more or less the same. Yes there are some differences but we're talking about speed. They are the same. Besides that it's a good video but I think it's a bit bias.

    If I'm gonna 1k for an escooter I'll get the Inokim or Fuze

    1k is way too much, you might as well get a faster Chinese one that's cheaper and has better torque/range.

      Don't take as truth anything you read on UK PEV restrictions until anything actually happens. They've taken so long to act on this that we'll probably be living on Mars before they put anything in place.

      This! And I don't think its safer than m364 as long as it has solid tires well known as low stability and very slipery tires at wet conditions.
