  • The U.N. said Thursday that the death toll from landslides in south Ethiopia has reached at least 257, adding that the toll could rise to near 500. They also said more than 15,000 people must be evacuated because of the risk of further landslides there. General Abdourahamane Tiani, Niger’s military leader, said in speech Thursday that the country is on an "inexorable" march to "sovereignty."
