Well JYPE had a good start with vocals with their first girl group (their best vocal line so far) so it's not something completely new for them but over the years they started prioritising dance over vocals. Now they have come a full circle and made a group which offers both solid vocals and engaging performance. One of the most well-rounded gg in 4th gen, if not _the_ most.
It shows how confident they are in their vocals, they know their limits and use them at their advantage, they know their strong points and I think that's what differences them from other rookie groups, Idk what was different in their trainee days that made then as today but thank god xd
I think one of the factors is the generation, since being an idol now is desireable and promising. Tho they're also naturally talented and carefully selected.

Haewon had the misfortune of getting covid right before debut -- they had to push the debut showcase back a week so she could recover -- then she hurt her ankle, so of course she couldn't be at her best, but now we have plenty of footage of Haewon slaying like the leader she is!

As long as you got them visuals with average talent (can be dancing, singing, or rapping), you can pretty much get away with it. Our standard of performing has definitely lowered significantly. Just disappointing. Meanwhile, NMIXX here just casually singing every performance.
They are surprisingly good! I rarely check NMIXX because I am not really into 4th gen yet but I honestly think they'll be the only actual vocal group of this generation like everyone can really sing! I wonder how did JYP find all of them I hope people will never sleep on them!

Haewon and Lily adlib effortlessly, registering the highs. Lily can really belt, effortlessly. Jinni giving Ryujin vibes with the lows. Lily caught my eyes when researching this group. Then i found out she is a Libra, like me. I get her bubbly vibe. Kinda wish Lily was the leader, alike Bang Chan. As both can speak English perfectly and would be better international ambassadors in USA, Europe, and down under. Both Bang Chan and Lily are Libras. Most Libras will will register as EN~~ or ES~~ MBTI grading. Lily is confident and have no inhibitions off or on stage. Her VLive broadcasts will always be entertaining compared to other idols, and we've only seen one. Heck... don't we all just gush over her beautiful Aussie accent? I'm not a big fan of Kpop since Big Bang and BTS. Yeji's cat eyes and vibe of leadership and passion got me back into Kpop. And Lily [and Stray Kids] will make me STAY awhile.
