- In this guitar lesson I'll show you how to play "Only Shallow" by My Bloody Valentine, including how you can play chords with the Whammy Bar (or tremolo arm) like Kevin Shields does. Super cool technique and a cracking song - enjoy!

A band that instantly became one of my favorites upon first hearing them. Loveless in particular is timeless.
Yea I need to do more of these. An excuse to get a cool Jag or Jazzmaster too ;-)
@@LetsPlayAll as long as your guitar has a whammy bar
getting pedals is more important.
Loveless is one of my 5 desert island albums
Nice! I haven’t listened to them too much tbh so I’m just discovering how awesome Kevin Shields is 😀🤘
it is my number 1 ever
How the hell did I miss this one??? Love it!!
Enjoy mate!
Recently subbed to you and it’s the best decision I’ve made on RUclips, I’ve been running through these videos thank you so much!
Welcome aboard Joshua, glad you're enjoying the vids!
I don't particularly listen to My Bloody Valentine, but I'll always support your channel by watching your uploads because you've helped me with your guitar lessons tremendously Matt!
Thanks Ace appreciate the support mate!
I dont get why only a few likes and comments, its so hard to find a tutorial of mbv. Great video and thanks
Thanks Miguel glad you enjoyed it! 😀🤘
Its pretty hard to recreate a train siren with a guitar so you did well trying to get the effects
Great song, great guitar!
Cheers Jason! 😀🤘
Great video ♡
Thanks!
Love the guitar tone. What overdrive or distortiion or multieffects did you use ?
Do you think you’ll ever do anymore MBV? Im looking for a lesson on “When you sleep” but no ones videos are as good as yours.
I should think so mate, this one has proved pretty popular! I’ve got a huge backlog of requests tho so Patreon is your best bet if you want it anytime soon 😀🤘
@@LetsPlayAll ahh makes sense, Ill keep an eye out.
more mbv pls
Dear Matt, may i ask you something for the future videos? Would you mind to share tempos (bpm) of the songs to practice with metronom?
Best thing is to get a metronome app with a tap tempo, you can then tap the tempo to play to whatever speed you want to practise at 🤘😀
@@LetsPlayAll Thank you but tgis is what l already do😃I just want to know the original tempo of the songs. Because the tab applications like songsterr etc doesnt give correct bpms. Anyways...
@@LetsPlayAll e lo 9©@#
My Bloody Valentine. Nice n choppy. Just like the slasher film of the same name :D
Haha that’s a great film!
Mas de mbv porfavor!!!
😀🤘
what effects are you using in the video?
just light distortion and a bit of reverb, i don't have a pedal that can do the reverse reverb or delay shenanigans that kevin used in this :-) (yet....)
Im new to guitar and have been learning a few chords, and other things, so figured id dive into a song and learn some more that way, but now im confused, are these power chords?
Hey Moe - power chords are also called 5 chords as they have a root, 5th and octave. Basically 3 on the low E (or 6th) string, 5 on the 5th string and 5 on the 4th string would be a G power chord or G5. The chords here are partial barre chords. So for G you'd play all the notes in a G chord, not just the Root and 5th. So 3 5 5 4 3 3 (from low to high string). Here's a playlist of some of my easier tunes though if you're just starting out! ruclips.net/p/PLLJomVjCOvki71vqejaY7nTIdPGc86reb
@@LetsPlayAll ah thanks, ill check out that vid tonight, looks like I’ve got some practicing to do
@@LetsPlayAll hey man, thanks for the help, i decided to learn barre chords as i really want this to be my first song, I can now play part of it and am gonna carry on learning. Thanks a lot!
@@heron9580 amazing keep going mate! Learning the guitar is literally the best thing. Every time I pick up my guitar I realise how much more there is to learn. It’s a fun thing 😀🤘
@@LetsPlayAll will do, cheers
The only bad thing is: the guitar is not jazzmaster
didn't have one back then :-)
Tone fail. And using a strat is sacrilege.
