      Well, it can sit in your lap. Also, my laptop that doesn't run on battery anymore, isn't considered a portable desktop since it's battery doesn't work. It's still called a laptop. I just have to keep it plugged in, haha

    • @Tron08
      @Tron08 7 лет назад +20

      I would argue that any laptop intended for gaming pretty much needs to be plugged-in to actually game (otherwise you often get like, 30-45minutes). So in that sense this is spot-on to the functionality of a 'gaming laptop'. It's also neat that this has the power supply built into the chasis instead of as an external brick.

    • @AntoniYOwned
      @AntoniYOwned 7 лет назад +8

      Still a laptop ;)
      Also, agreed with TheTron08, gaming on a laptop, in my experience, almost requires to be plugged in. They don't last long enough otherwise

    20:40 I was also a cable installer...and what he is talking about is a coax tester/tuner. These items attach to the bare copper coated wire inside the coax connector from your cable box and then the other end attaches the same way. When both ends are on the same line there is an audible tone to let you know that you found the cable that has the connector on the other end. These are notoriously cheap and break, run out of battery, stop working, lose audio, and so on.

    • @RetroAdventure
      @RetroAdventure 7 лет назад

      There are a lot of different types of these: www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=coax+tester&tbm=shop&spd=13765752482076737384But I think he was referring to this one: www.philex.co.uk/catalogue/product/?id=640&cat=1125

      We also want to see if we can make one that can send/detect a signal through the jacket so you don't have to strip or detach a wire. So basically without contacting the conductive material of the wire.

    Please take your time on more future builds. A lot of the newer stuff seems rushed. A long term project every month or so would be great. I don't know about re-visiting specific builds, but if you could just rotation all of them through a schedule. Just a thought. I know you need to release regularly, but there should always be long term builds, in my opinion.

  • @TheSkelliz
    @TheSkelliz 7 лет назад +4

    Suggestion for next build: Hey Ben! I've always wondered about this. How about you buy a Nintendo Wii (With Homebrew would be better) and a Wii U gamepad. You can modify the controls, like the left analog stick being the Wii Nunchuk and the right one synced to the d-pad controls. L and ZL can be Z and R and ZR can be B. The X Button can also be B. Y can be 1 and B can be 2. This, if done correctly, will make a Wii Gamepad (Wii Portable) and can be used as a regular controller for the Wii. Make sure to build the sensor bar into it! Like if you agree!

    A wire tracer would be a handy device. Especially if you made it so you could plug the signal generator into a wall outlet, screw it in a light socket or attach a set of jumper cables. It would probably be a good idea if it could survive being attached to a live circuit too.

      Joe Stacks actually uses a laptop (notebook, in terms of speed) grade CPU (actually an APU) if you look at it in terms of clockspeed, if I recall correctly, it uses a 1.8ghz (maybe 2) AMD Jaguar 8-core APU, with something like a HD7770 for a GPU.

    • @Tom-gv7hc
      @Tom-gv7hc 7 лет назад +3

      the fans are about equivalent since the big fan spun really slow thats about as easy as I can put it

    • @alexisrivera200xable
      @alexisrivera200xable 7 лет назад +9

      You are correct. The bigger fan was probably chosen for the Xbox One S design because having a single bigger fan with low RPMs to maintain airflow on the whole case makes much less noise than several smaller ones going at much higher RPMs constantly. Something the PS4 gets often criticized for by people who find the constant audible whir of the fans annoying.
      In Ben's design I think that airflow on the case overall is probably not good enough for gaming not because the fans are too small (As you rightly point out they are going at much higher RPM), its because the components are laid out differently and further appart than the original design and the space is rather cramped too. The PSU might not be getting good enough airflow or its likely just getting hot air from the rest of the components.

    Make a Wii U laptop or maybe a portable Nintendo Switch with the dock included

    • @KuraIthys
      @KuraIthys 7 лет назад

      MorimotoYTP I'm not sure the dock has much in it that would be worth integrating into the rest of the switch. XD
      Seems more like a convenience thing (not having to plug in a bunch of seperate cables and the like), plus maybe some extra cooling.

    • @MrHatoi
      @MrHatoi 7 лет назад +3

      Why would you need to make a portable Switch? That's one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. The system is already portable, and Nintendo has said that the dock serves no purpose other than TV connection and charging, which you can already do with the charger. Literally nothing would be gained by integrating the dock.

    • @MorimotoYTP

      MrHatoi If rumors say that the dock increases performance, though.

    • @MegaBugBugBug

      It just gives the switch more power than the batteries can provide. You could probably get a performance increase on the switch by plugging in an external battery.

    I dont know if ya'll check the comments on older videos but I've had an idea that would be more of a long term thing. I've been wanting to make a pc desk for a few years, but also be able to play console games as most of my friends have Xbox or Playstation. I know that either one of those systems don't take up much room by themselves, and are only about as large as a large pc case, but i think it would be cool to have the pc desk with an Xbox and, or a PlayStation built inside of it as well. Like a dual monitor set-up for the Pc and a 40 or 50 inch T.V. for the console(s)

      Just because the 360 is old now doesn't mean it's gotten smaller over time.

    • @KingBlonde
      @KingBlonde 7 лет назад

      Yeah, he'd have to completely reverse engineer a 360, make a mobo and buy and route every single modern equivalent component of what's in the original 360 to make a whole new system essentially. Hard work.

    • @info0
      @info0 7 лет назад +5

      I didn't mean APU on it ;)
      But PSU will overheat and fry PCB on MB. It overheats like crazy already playing music/movies (the guy in vid said it goes over 100 degrees F). With games that would go even higher as more power would be needed to fuel games.
      Cool idea, but unusable for gaming.

    • @Tom-gv7hc
      @Tom-gv7hc 7 лет назад +9

      any computer whether it be a pc, mac, xbox or ps should not be going any higher than 90* CELSIUS (apu mainly), 100* fahrenheit should be just fine for the psu itself as shown in the video

    • @info0
      @info0 7 лет назад +1

      Thomas Myers remember PSU was not even under load when it hit that temp. That's what hit me first. Fans came to my mind afterwards. 2 options console would have when overheating: thermal throttle or emergency shut down.
      APU would not fry that easily that's for sure.

      my iPhone is better than the vita and it can do a whole lot more than just game well this portable xBox idea kinda sucks as it is pointless as you need a 3D printer and CNC machinery which is expensive i know there are cheap 3D printers for under like $500 but that CNC will set you back over $10K and i know you can create your own PCB's and other parts but that is too much time consuming i personally know quite a bit on electronics but this guy is old school he knows how electronics work etc... but he is sort of basic and he lacks the knowledge of competing products and so on such as gaming laptops and so on at least PC gaming is not as complicated as this because i am no expert at this but i do know what i am doing when it comes to electronics but this type of stuff is too much for me

    Ben and Crew, one thing you could do to make a little money on the side is sell plans with the files for the 3d printed parts and the laser parts. It is much easier than making kits and you could sell them fairly inexpensively considering that the brunt of the cost of producing the machine is taken care of by the consumer. This is similar to how the woodworking channels on youtube make money.

    I think it would have been a good idea to throw a thin keyboard on top. And seems how the Xbox one S has Bluetooth it wouldn't even need to be tethered to the motherboard. It would be very handy anytime you want to message or search for something. I think the side lines ended up looking good. To make it more fancy, the lid symbol should be reworked so it glows with LED's, as that symbol looks like the old 360 version.

      Doesn't need a benchmark, he didn't just throw in some random shit and go "yeah that'll do". It's all calculated before putting it all together, and with the APU heat censor and all that, the fans would have to work a bit harder but with the heatsink and intake/exhaust, it'd add up to roughly the same temperature. AND like he said, APU's are a lot less heat intensive than you'd expect, did you even watch the video??

    Maybe I'm alone on this one, but I would have loved to see you add a way to toggle between the connected screen and an independent screen (such as your home TV when not on-the-go). I can see this being achieved two ways:
    1. The HDMI F port that goes to the Xbox's monitor being flush with the case that can be unplugged to swap out for the independent screen. However, this would look super tacky since you'll always have a bulky HDMI M sticking out. This could also cause issues during transportation (I could see this breaking easily).
    2. An HDMI switch with one HDMI F inside of the case like yours that directly connects to the monitor, a second HDMI F connector flush with the case for an independent monitor/screen to connect to, and the actual switch 1/2 flush with the case to swap between the Xbox monitor and a connected monitor.
    --
    Why would this be useful? You're on the go playing on the attached monitor. That's pretty neat. Then you come home and switch over to your much larger HD TV. You have portability without sacrificing the big screen functionality.
    --
    Just my two cents. Very cool project. I'm curious how those fans hold up during prolonged use or while playing games (assuming that would generate more heat).

  • @nickstubbings

    I like that this exists, but im guessing you made it "because you can" (not a huge point to it)
    Also, Im not knocking what you do, far from it, but i wish you would use different materials sometimes, everything ends up looking really similar!
    Other than that, i like the design and how well everything fits in the casing (seems to be full rather that oversized and half empty like some of the other portables i have seen that you made)
    Cool!
