Most people neglect how good midrange PCs look. A decent PC that only has a budget card(GTX 650 for example) can run games and still look absolutely gorgeous and at a similar level as the next gen consoles.
I agree with you on PC vs console. I dont want this to turn in to argument but rather a discussion. Better graphics can certainly help immerse you, its a part of why we love new generations of hardware. As far as multiplayer, I myself enjoy BF3 on PS3 because it still looks good and is playable for me vs trying to get it remotely playable on my PC. But PC hardware gets upgrades far more often, and even DirectX upgrades can help substantially. Basically, PCs upgradability is why it wins.
It doesn't look like that on the PS3! I'm playing it on the PS3 and it looks way more better than that. But the PC version is better for sure. Hope the PS4 one is 10x better.
It costs what you want to put on it. You can build a decent gaming PC sub-$500. But most enthousiast like to have powerful rigs that can output unrapparalleled grahics at higher resolution, or even triple screen and that can go over 1K. If ppl had the ability to pimp out their console, many would. PC gaming being expensive is a myth. The cost of games alone quickly make it more economic.
The story does not change from release version to release version then, but in most cases mods are used to add to, enhance, or fix the story if they are used there at all. Adding higher res textures, better lighting effects, custom dungeons/armor/weapons, ect is all a very good thing. I love PC games for this reason, but as far as developer created story, multi platforms get the same main story with occasional exclusive bonus missions/maps/footage for pre-order. Over all, same story, same game.
Most of the F2P genre is notably absent from consoles, RTSes as a whole, MMOs if you're into that, the best parts of the indie scene, and it has the best version of a given game that is released. Basically, even if it isn't exclusive, it's a given that it'll give you a far better experience.

It's funny because PC gaming is continuing to grow. Prebuilt desktop sales have nothing to do with actual gamers because the majority of us craft our own rigs and choose everything we want and need. Also, if PC gaming is dying then why is the Occulus Rift dev only supporting PC and mobile and not console? Oh right, because console hardware crawls at the slowest pace between the 3. Have fun with VR headsets well after we get the full VR experience.
1080p versus 720p, less effects on PS3 as well as smaller res textures (in environment), and more detailed shadows on PC. the PS3 one looks good, it's only that the PC one looks great! That's why I'm waiting for the PS4 version which will most likely be on par with the PC.
And yes technology does improve every but that also mean that it is hella expensive, nobody is going to go for a 1000 dollar titan or GTX690/790 over a 499 console. Getting your PC over PS4 gaming standards is roughly the price of a PS4 (like $400-500 more, for a very, very good rig, as you can already build a gaming pc sub $500 on a budget). You then have access to thousands of free games, thousands more AAA titles sold for half to a tenth the price of their console ports. The only things consoles are good for, and why I and many PC users still own them, are exclusive titles. Buy 10 games and PC is cheaper.
Considering that gamers buy components to build their PC's, which are selling more, and that next gen consoles are basically mid range PC's, we're going nowhere.

I will have to agree. Why my 5960x1080 resolution beats the crap out of the PS3, there is no way it'd look that bad on my plasma. But that's only the wash out part. The low res textures and poor effects are due to the low power of the PS3.
Yeah I'm running both PC and PS3 versions on a Benq 120hz 1080p monitor, the PS3 version looks laughable in comparison. I think they've actually gimped the PC version a bit on this video (720p for one). I use a modest 3GB HD7950 with most settings on high, I tend to get around 80fps average, obviously PS3 is capped to 30 anyway. Maybe an HDTV masks some of the imperfections but textures on this game could be way improved in general anyway.
I had a pc made for me recently for $500, and because of "Steam", "The Humble Bundle" and "Greenmangaming" always having sales (not to mention the good F2P games from steam) I already own more games on pc than i ever did at one time for my 360 and ps3 combined. I haven't paid full price for a game yet and im still coming out cheaper because i dont have to pay for online either

I was expecting a bigger difference between the two given the power of the PC and all, but I'm actually quite surprised at how similar they look. It's pretty much just a resolution difference. The textures are the same, just a bit fuzzier on the PS3.

To point out, there is a big difference in seeing things indipendantly than seeing it with a side by side. Like when I saw Sony's 120hz TVs for the first time. by themselves they didn't look so great but seeing it side by side with a 60hz comparison synced up to show the exact same thing, the difference really pops out.

Yes, the resolution up-scaling is a thing. Good call. But it is plain to see that this video has an obvious washout. You cannot argue against that unless you want to just pretend it doesn't exist. I am not talking in respect to resolution or graphic technicality. Only that the white balance is WAY off on the PS3 version. If this were truly captured directly from the PS3 then the white balance was altered after the fact. It's plain to see.
lets be fair, ps3 is old and its graphics performance cannot be compared to normal-higher end PC's. X1 & Ps4 look amazing, but a PC's ability to upgrade the system will dominate graphics. Exclusives and multiplayer base, are Consoles greatest advantage.
you can get a solid gpu for about 100-250$ and it'll play everything on ultra for at least a good 3-4 years. after that you probably can tweak the settings and play on high and still get about a good 2 more years out of it... you're right gaming isn't all about graphics but having amazing graphics can immerse even deeper into the game. I know it has for me. by that logic you'll actually end up spending less money than you would on consoles...

Well, who in their right mind would buy an 8 year old console at this point? We're talking next gen. $500 for an X1 that won't play games from last generation, meaning $60 games for a long time and paying for Live. So, say you buy 4 games over the year after the X1's release and pay for a year of Live, maybe buy one or two DLC's along the way. 500+240+40+50=$830. With this same amount of money, one could easily build a $700 PC that would destroy the X1 and have $130 left over for games, which

all games support controllers on PC. any controller. even a Wii controller. Its not just graphics, better online with better online features and abiltiy to tweak the online settings in alot of games. The Hardware on the PS4 is at the level of a midrange P.C.! However there is a fundamental difference at how they both run game code. PCs typically have to run through another level of interpretation "API". The Console however runs the same hardware, this removing a layer of overhead from the process. Getting more performance from the cheaper parts.
PC gets shitty ports. That's PC's biggest weakness. Graphics aren't important, but getting a game running at 60fps with a variety of features to alter your experience definitely plays in to elements of gameplay. Devs need to focus more on PC, and port to consoles, because their hardware limitations result in a lot of wasted potential.
You could say that, but let's be honest, most of the so called PC "exclusives" are simple indie games or free to play gems that can usually be found on Mac/ Linux as well.The only PC exclusives that are more triple A like console exclusives are strategy games like starcraft and generic MMORPG's.

The PC version includes a PS3 simulation version. It automatically sets the video quality to Very Low and then requires an SDTV. You're welcome.

I don't really see the problem here, I think its great that Square enix made it possible to enjoy this game on ps3 if your not a pc gamer.

I grew up on consoles, and the first time I played a FPS on a PC-- I never felt compelled to play another FPS on a console. Ever.
Even at 720p PC would still look better. Not only resolution matters on graphics.

The PS3 version wasn't that much worse. The biggest difference in the video was the contrast. I think that was because of there recoding equipment.

I can already tell what they did to make the PS3 version look bad. They lowered the color saturation and increased the brightness. Pathetic..I will get this game when it comes out for PS4... in like maybe 6-8 months.

Halo, Metal Gear Solid (specially the fourth, considered by many one of the best games of all time),Uncharted, The last of Us (considered by many one of the best games of this gen), Heavy rain, Gears of War, Ninja Gaiden, Batman Arkham City without having to be online, the best versions of sports games, Red dead redemption, fighting games in general...

To point out, there is a big difference in seeing things indipendantly than seeing it with a side by side. Like when I saw Sony's 120hz TVs for the first time. by themselves they didn't look so great but seeing it side by side with a 60hz comparison synced up to show the exact same thing, the difference really pops out.
i never implied i was a pc gamer, nor do i have my head so far up my butt that i cant see the difference between gameplay and graphics. i am a gamer... see?. GAMER, i play games i dont pick a game coz of its graphics or the console its on. but the title of the video has to do with graphical differences between 2 platforms so you can see the aesthetic difference between the 2. i have a pc, but i also have a 360 and a ps3 but because i mentioned pc graphics, i have an 'elitest mentality'. really?.

wow..... are you blind? The texture, resolution, sharpness and clarity is on a whole other level, not to mention the particle effects and lighting is much more advanced on the PC
Yes, the resolution up-scaling is a thing. Good call. But it is plain to see that this video has an obvious washout. You cannot argue against that unless you want to just pretend it doesn't exist. I am not talking in respect to resolution or graphic technicality. Only that the white balance is WAY off on the PS3 version. If this were truly captured directly from the PS3 then the white balance was altered after the fact. It's plain to see.
lets be fair, ps3 is old and its graphics performance cannot be compared to normal-higher end PC's. X1 & Ps4 look amazing, but a PC's ability to upgrade the system will dominate graphics. Exclusives and multiplayer base, are Consoles greatest advantage.
you can get a solid gpu for about 100-250$ and it'll play everything on ultra for at least a good 3-4 years. after that you probably can tweak the settings and play on high and still get about a good 2 more years out of it... you're right gaming isn't all about graphics but having amazing graphics can immerse even deeper into the game. I know it has for me. by that logic you'll actually end up spending less money than you would on consoles...

Well, who in their right mind would buy an 8 year old console at this point? We're talking next gen. $500 for an X1 that won't play games from last generation, meaning $60 games for a long time and paying for Live. So, say you buy 4 games over the year after the X1's release and pay for a year of Live, maybe buy one or two DLC's along the way. 500+240+40+50=$830. With this same amount of money, one could easily build a $700 PC that would destroy the X1 and have $130 left over for games, which
better performance, graphics, some people like mouse and keyboard over a pad for fps's, 3ps's, etc. That's the point of buying a PC. If you just don't get the perks then you just don't understand.
I own PS3 version of this game and played both and side by side -_- and again I dont know why people keep thinking I am comparing PC to PS3 graphics I am not. Just simple saying that this vid is compleate bullshit. This game does NOT look like it does in this video on PS3 its not muddy and washed and blurry wen you zoom in. OFC PC looks better but this is way way off from what this looks like on PS3.
This is compressed, did you take that into account or it is like that because they didn't record this at the full resolution this game runs at.

PS4 is the equivalent of a 3-4 year old PC sold at a loss. If you don't have a PC to play the games sold on both platforms, don't look for vids and SS, you will only be disapointed.

Depends on the game too you know.. The fact that it is a MMO would make it extremely taxing and graphics will have to be not as nice to get it to run solidly.

all games support controllers on PC. any controller. even a Wii controller.
Its not just graphics, better online with better online features and abiltiy to tweak the online settings in alot of games. Mods providing hours of new gameplay or add things to the game. or even the option to make your own mods. Esports for PC is much bigger and better than it ever was when console was centre stage in Esports. PC has much better features, years before console. PS3 cant xgame chat. PC can video chat

Wow the PS3 port looks absolutely horrible. Stick to PC with this one if you care about graphics. They don't really have much of an excuse for this considering the PS3 has some beautiful looking games.

The Hardware on the PS4 is at the level of a midrange P.C.! However there is a fundamental difference at how they both run game code. PCs typically have to run through another level of interpretation "API". The Console however runs the same hardware, this removing a layer of overhead from the process. Getting more performance from the cheaper parts.

PC gets shitty ports. That's PC's biggest weakness. Graphics aren't important, but getting a game running at 60fps with a variety of features to alter your experience definitely plays in to elements of gameplay.
Devs need to focus more on PC, and port to consoles, because their hardware limitations result in a lot of wasted potential.
You could say that, but let's be honest, most of the so called PC "exclusives" are simple indie games or free to play gems that can usually be found on Mac/ Linux as well.The only PC exclusives that are more triple A like console exclusives are strategy games like starcraft and generic MMORPG's.
Because most people have PCs that are weaker than consoles so consoles are seen as a more viable option for gaming and they'd like to see how things can look on high end hardware. I'm confused and rather amused at the fact that "pc graphics" now means the highest end PC hardware, the "pc graphics" that almost no one can achieve. In reality, if we speak purely in terms of numbers, even current gen console are more powerful than the PCs most people own and PC elitists turn a blind eye to that.
