It's not just one track that made me fall for him . I got into the Weeknd during his darker days with Trilogy and Kiss Land. Although there have been a few good ones, I am not a fan of his new pop style music. Glad that this vibe is coming back now. His music is good for people who feel dead inside but not when its some pop shit winning awards at teens shows lol. Either way always a huge fan!

What I’ve always loved about the weeknd is that you can fully immerse yourself into another layer of being and imagine another reality with his music. For me, this futuristic loneliness didn’t embody my particular vision of this song, back when I heard it when it first came out like we all did, I envisaged a man, sitting alone with a drink in hand and maybe a smoke, reminiscing of the house of balloons girls and the parties and the aftermath of the devastation that partying can leave. The feeling of missing someone who you know you’ll never get back, which is why it is an echo of silence ❤️

The Weeknd is one of the few artists who's music is timeless. Happy 10 Years Anniversary to the holy grail of mixtapes.
Still remains his darkest project. Echoes of Silence is incredible.
The excellence of visuals is the result of the collaboration with Hajime Sorayama, a Japanese artist who in 1972 created an artwork called Sexy Robot, in turn inspired by a 1927 silent movie, Fritz Lang's "Metropolis"
This is such an interesting move. I was always associating Echoes of Silence with a life of a sinner and how his mistakes and frightful thoughts destroyed the inner better self, leaving him alone with the monster he accidentally made stronger than him.
But after this music video... I feel like Echoes of Silence, as much as the whole Trilogy, can be associated with anything listener will want.

I think what strikes me the most about the music video and it's parallels with the song is this (imo): the dystopian, dreary, and unpopulated world represent his loneliness and depression; the beautiful and highly sexual robots made of cold steel, represent the coldness and hollow nature of Abel's love life, Abel himself, and perhaps the social and professional world he resides in; the female robot entering a display case among others just like it, represents the abundance of the incredibly attractive but also augmented - and almost manufactured - women that Abel finds himself repeatedly entangled with.

I've waited 40 years to see how Sorayama would animate and articulate his 'Gynoids', his robot women. The fact that these two powerhouses came together to create something spectacular....I have no words. Followers of Sorayama will be mindblown by the motion and sheer artwork, a recreation and evolution of several of his posters. The Weeknd - needs no introduction or explanation.
The fact that The Weeknd managed to score this, to work with Sorayama is HUGE. Nobody else has come close.

I’m a fan of Weeknd throughout every era. Though I’ve been a fan since House of Balloons, Echoes, and Thursday. Most people would know those as the compiled album Trilogy (and if you didn’t know that Trilogy was made up of those 3 mixtapes, well now you know!). But anyway, the older stuff will always 100% have a place in my heart. He was in a darker place then when he made this, and so was I, so that’s why I hold his older stuff in such high regards, as it got me through some stuff.
His newer stuff, I like, and I love. But nothing will ever make me feel like how Trilogy did. It was just something else. It’s linked to an era of both darkness and happiness for me, but I love it and I’m glad he still shows love for his older stuff like this and Kiss Land. It really shows that he’s still grounded and hasn’t forgotten where he came from.
He was right when he said in Rolling Stone, “I’ll be different, I think I’ll be different, I hope I’m not different, And I hope you still listen”. He was different since then for sure, but of course, I still listened.
Weeknd is def one of my top artists not just for his innate enigmatic presence, and puzzling ways, or even his immense talent in the music industry, but because he really does care about his fans. That’s why it’s always gonna be XO forever.
I’m not an XO gatekeeper like some of the people who say “only true fans listened since Trilogy, that’s just downright stupid. I hope some of the newer fans listen to this and maybe get curious enough to go back and listen to his older discography. Trilogy is dark, sensual, and intimate, and it cuts deep. Kiss Land is so cinematic and visceral in a way, but both have a way of making you feel like you’re in a dreamy haze, floating on top of clouds.

I love how this year he's been dropping surprise MVs of older songs on the anniversary of them. Think about it:
He dropped the Try Me MV on the 3-year anniversary of MDM, the alternate Can't Feel My Face MV on the 6-year anniversary of BBTM, the Die For You MV on the 5-year anniversary of Starboy, and now the EOS MV on its own 10-year anniversary. I love how he listens to his fans.

3:39 is Trilogy reference. It has to be. He doesn’t spoon feed us but that’s what I picked up. Those girls/lives are just trophies cases, memories of a time you conquered and made it. They all went out of their element and played on the other side as well. They took a risk. That’s why these machines danced in the rain. It’s a beautiful way for the artist who made the film to compliment such a beautiful song that to this day makes sense. Just like Rolling Stone. He’s a true artist. Don’t underestimate Abel.

Trilogy was always on repeat back in my life when I was in darker times, alcoholism, drugs and sleeping with any woman to fill an empty void in my heart. Now that I listen to it again, makes me appreciate what I have now, a wife, a stable job and on my way to get our first house.

there's a reason the weeknd will always be one of my favourite artists... just the way the effort is made in the visuals, the songs, it's literally so immaculate.
