Ashkenazy could fly his fingers fast with agility, but he chose to express his inner thoughts with in-depth-insights and sentiments. Marvelous interpretation!
Chopin rights agitato but this is not really agitato . Great playing .Pollini who usually bores me is very usical and evocative in this etude.Chiu is excellent !
@ZeevRoizman Sure. I agree with you. I admit I cannot know everything. You are correct in one thing. I was taught how to think. If you weren't, you will be the first person I know that wasn't.
What in god's name are you blathering about? The "other side" had Gilels and Richter! The Russian piano school was considered the greatest in the world at that time.
Sokolov, Pletnev, Gavrilov, Beresovsky, Zimmermann, Halina Czerny-Stefanska, Rubinstein, Horowitz, Gilels, Richter, Stefan Askenase, Radu Lupu, Nikolayevna, Sofronitsky, Cherkassky, Dinu Lipatti to name but a very few from "the other side" - you do not know what you are talking about my friend!
@swanningaround ...did have some talent? are u kidding/? Where did you jump from? Who you think you are? "The other side" had more talents than u could imagine. Just a person with flat mind could say that. You knew what ever your governmental wanted to know and to think. but... stay this way, please. Than darker night, than brighter stars!
This is the slowest recording I have ever heard and also the best recording i have ever heard.Every tiny detail is exactly right and attractive.
You should listen to Wim Winters playing this etude at Chopin's tempo (?). It is very instructive. ruclips.net/video/ne_zm92IDAA/видео.html.
"Instructive" in the "this is how you DON'T want to play it" sense, surely.
I love this etude played so slowly

so much deeper performed slower than usual. love it
This recording is slower than most I have heard, and I really love it this way.
@hellzor555
Absolutely! Unfortunately, it's MOST just play an etude, and a few actually bring the music to life.
Absolutely divine! All versions, by Rubinstein, Ashkenazy and Lugansky are amazing. Don't you have o be Polish to play Chopin? YES!
apiiiiiiiiiistefto!

some people play music.others just perform an etude
Like part of unwritten 5th ballade
Except that Chopin composed it for a performance at 96 ! Chopin objected to the liberties Franz List took in his execution
Great Soviet pianist of the 1970s era. It does proved that the "other side" did have some talent too. This is a very early recording for him.

Ok heres a communist. Chill bro your wall is down now
This composition has no development and no drama.
i can hear development and drama & much more.
Climax/drama at 0.50".
What you would consider to be drama is subjective, so I'll drop that, but no development? Do you even listen to music?
