Don’t buys a lot of shoes for the baby, they will kick them off. One pieces outfits are the easiest. Congrats!
And newborn babies will outgrow their shoes so fast!
Also shoes can cause foot issues. Newborns feet and baby’s feet are not fully developed the bones fuse as the grow outside the womb

I agree! My friend got 90% of her clothes for her baby from friends and family and registry. It’s amazing how much people give. But it’s also nice for the parents to buy a few clothing’s. Just for fun 😊

It’s worth investing in stuff that you’ll use every day!
My favorites-
- Hatch Rest sound machine
- A good baby monitor.
- Portable sound machine that attaches to the car seat.
- Bouncy chair (that’s what all our babies slept in for the first 5 months).
We didn’t even have a bassinet.
- Swaddle blankets w/ velcro so he can’t get out easily.
- Mam pacifiers & bottles.

We had twin boys who will be 21 this year. For must haves I would say definitely have infant gas drops on hand. One of our boys was really tiny at birth due to a complication with the umbilical cord and he had horrible gas, and these really helped him. The baby swing is a really helpful item, if you need to do laundry etc, or just need a little break, a safe way to calm them and help them or you get a little nap in.
Don’t forget to save things for the baby registry- so many families love to look at those and buy from them
Lydia, let me just say that I wanted a little girl too. My son is now 28! Boys really rock! He was so laid back and easy going that I would have wanted a second one to be a boy as well! God definitely knows best! Its sad to hear that the inequity still exists between boy and girl clothes! I was so discouraged that I started sketching designs for boy clothes, with the idea of opening a shop for boys only, but I dropped the ball. 😏
Make sure you think about what size he might be in each season. Happy buying, so excited for you both. xxx
Being blessed with giving birth to two incredible sons, I still wanted a girl, but my 2nd son didn’t come until I was 42, so decided to leave the rest in God’s hands. I was then blessed with 2 beautiful granddaughters and 1 amazing grandson who have given me so much joy!! God is good!! Can’t wait to see all the cute baby boy clothes you picked out for your new bundle of joy!!

My favorite for newborns are the gowns. So easy to change diapers with those! All the you have so far clothes are so cute!
I totally agree! The infant nightgowns are the best for night time! One piece outfit for day time.
Travis and Katie’s car seat that also has a stroller attached to it is genius! That would be my go to for sure.
I love all of them. But the outfit she said for church is sweet. Good for the wedding. I love the white one for coming home. I love how she can’t stop smiling. You’re going to be great parents.

Your baby will grow out of the little newborn clothes quickly so don’t buy too much of the one size. Can’t wait to hear what name you picked….🙂
A baby bouncer comes in really handy when you need to get a couple thing's done. Bouncers can also be great for soothing a fussy baby. But do get several onesies, burping towels, bibs and baby swaddle blankets. They'll go through those often. My fave outfit was the church outfit, you could pair it with the suspenders and bow tie, so CUTE! 💙🥰❤️
Little boys are just so adorable the way they can be dressed! Burp clothes are very useful as well as a sleeping sack!
I have gifted new mom's with a portable changing pad that is all-in-one. It holds diapers, wipes, etc. They found it to be bigger and better than the changing pad that is usually included with the diaper bag. They found that they can just grab the handle and head to the changing station without having to haul the entire diaper bag with them and still have everything they need close at hand. I've been told it was the best present they received and made things so much easier.

Try the second hand stores for baby clothes! Babies don’t wear out their clothes, and the prices are great!

Nose Frieda is a must. Sounds gross but it seriously is soooooo much better than the bulb syringe. We skipped the diaper genie….just threw diapers out right away.

I had a boy first and contrary to popular belief about girls’ clothing being superior, and had so much fun dressing him as a baby and toddler. Every baby is special, boy or girl, but boys often can be attached to their mamas and it’s a sweet relationship. You’ll love it!
A cool mist humidifier is a must have!

Carters baby clothes! Great value for the money and all my kids wore them. They are just adorable and wash and wear well.
G'Ma advice when zipping clothes onto your little one---Keep one finger between the zipper and baby's skin always and always check to be sure you laid down the zipper pull and snapped the snap-over tab. Many times a baby's skin has been zipped into the zipper. Being that Lydia has long hair keep an eye out for hair around his fingers and all other appendages.

Awe these are handsome little boys outfits boys are a lot fun but can be wild too ❤💙... Especially they poop and pee on you first few weeks instead so much in diapers...
So exciting buying new baby clothes!! I had two boys than a girl.. your little guy will be gorgeous.. can't wait to see baby Bates..💙 be careful with the cat jumping in the bed with the baby.. they like to snuggle close to babies faces...
For sleepers your gonna want ones that zip over button, in the middle of the night your not gonna wanna fight with all those buttons!!!! 💙💙💙
If you can borrow the swing, bouncy seat, walkers, etc from friends or family, its better, because they don’t stay in them long. Also look at 2nd hand stores for those items if uou want yo have your osn, babies don’t stay in them long, and you just need to find storage for them afterwards.
You definitely want to protect baby boy from meowy. Also baby boy church clothes are adorable.
Burp clothes, blankets, gripe water, diaper cream, diapers , and wipes are a must.
Congratulations!! I have two little boys🥰 Definitely get a boppy pillow if you plan on nursing!! For all the middle of the night diaper changes, sleepers that zip are so much easier than buttons ☺️

I remember when our 3 Sons were born. There was hardly any clothes for baby boys. Our youngest son was born in Germany in Bad Kissigen in 1988. The Military PX only had maybe 8 outfits for Boys and Racks for Girls. Everyone who had Baby Boys would be at the PX everyday that shipments would come in to try and be the first to get clothes for their Sons.
I would get some clothes in Town at a few German Children’s shops.
H&M has adorable baby boy clothes at a great price! I would not spend a lot of money on a baby swing, they grow out of them so quickly
Depends how many kids they're wanting to have. Better to invest in the quality items at the beginning instead of having to rebuy and use across less kids.
First, the wipe warmer they don’t care by like month 3-6 so do you really want to spend the money on something you really won’t need in 3 months? A regular trash can is fine for dirty diapers don’t buy into the diaper genie hype. Get a 4 in 1 car seat! A 4 in 1 or 3 in 1 car seat that rotates would be even better! Cool mist humidifier, nasal spray, and a nasal sucker like a nosefrida are a must! A 4 in 1 pack in play and a tummy time mat. A portable fan for the car and stroller cause ya’ll know Springs and Summers in the south can be hot!
Get diapers every time you go to the store. If you don’t have a Costco or Sam’s club membership get one buy diapers, wipes, and if needed formula there. Your wallet will thank you for it later!

Please consider using cloth diapers. So much better for planet earth. You can hire a service if you don't want to deal with the diapers. Congratulations.
You'll need baby fingernail clippers. They are so welcome. They are gentle on baby little fingers an toe nails. These are a must have.😅
I had everything thing for my babies and I realized I didn’t need much ❤️the babies need a place to sleep , a place to rock and you for food ❤️
Grammy of three here and we did use the wipe warmer, especially in the middle of the night. It made for an easier transition back to sleep. But you have enough Bates around to help you with what to buy and not buy. Just don’t save money on things you use a lot like strollers and car seats. Comfort matters.
I know you want to buy a ton of cloths but don’t! They grow so fast that he may never even wear stuff! Learn from a mom that went crazy. Lol. Congratulations

Remember to make sure you think of how old he will be in the different seasons, so you buy for the weather. If he’s born in summer he will need 6 month stuff in winter
first talk to your sisters in laws. they have all had a bunch of kids they will know what you will need. A little piece of advice regarding the swings/bounce chairs. some babies hate the front and back swinging motion others hate the side to side swinging motion. other babies hate swinging all together while others love the bouncers.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! As a boy mom, I've found it takes a little more effort to find cute boys clothing.
The swings are a life saver. Make sure it's a battery operated. These are life savers due to the baby wants you or Daddy to hold them an that's where the swing comes in an saves you so you xan get things done.
As a nanny for 14 years my suggestions are a Moby wrap and ergo carrier both great baby wearing but different stages, nose Freida and Saline nose spray, boppy pillow, limit the fuzzy blankets as no use and swaddle blankets more useful, nipple shields a must for nursing as new mom, no shoes, clothing think basics w a few special clothes. You'll have tons of cute onesies but for fall winter basic white long sleeve onesies are amazing you put the short sleeve cute onesies over top white one and gives you so many more outfit options in coolers temps
Onesies are the best thing, need plenty of burp clothes, and the next 5 months with go by faster than you think.
Don’t do what I did we bought so many things ourselves my friends and family had a hard time finding gifts.
Diaper rash cream, baby Tylenol, gas relief drops and gripe water were my go to items.
I love Lydia's excitement while picking cute boy things! I had 3 sons, no daughters, so I relate to her disappointment at seeing way more girl clothes in the stores. When my youngest son finally gave me my first grandchild it was a girl! Finally! I could shop in the extravagant pink side of the store! hahahahaha😆
All the clothes are super cute but do try to remember seasons as probably won’t be wearing shorts in the winter when he’s born xxx

Yes! Your little guy will be sleeping so much in the car seat and it's so convenient to just take the whole seat and pop it on the stroller to go in a store or a park or visiting friends etc...

The baby swing is a must have in my opinion. I have 2 kids and always have had cats and they never bothered the baby or got into the babies stuff

I love the clothes Kellie Jo picked out. So pretty. I love the one with the bow tie also. I only had 1 child (son) and he will be 26 Monday. But I remember it was so fun shopping for clothes. His closet was packed before he even arrived. He was dressed up every day like he was going somewhere. Enjoy this time and have fun shopping.

Thanks for taking us along! It's so much fund watching y'all enjoy this time, while joyfully preparing for the future. Y'all found some adorable stuff! Don't forget they grow fast, my three boys went through the sizes so fast they didn't get to wear all the things LOL. On swings, I had one little with reflux and one with colic, the swing was a HUGE help for both :) keeping them upright and moving respectively. Also, the downside of those new age video monitors is if they connect to wifi (for a phone app or such) then they can be hacked. It's a shame that anyone would do that.

I don’t have a kid. However I’m a babysitter. So suggestions from me: a sound machine, baby monitor for sure, a baby wrap. My kid doesn’t sleep with out christian music playing, personally I like white noice. A baby monitor so a while after pp you can get stuff done while watching baby. A baby wrap is super helpful. No you won’t spoil him. He will have a better relationship with you and know you are his safe place when he needs one. That’s all I can think of rn lol. Hopes it helps anyone who needs advice.
Another thing. Don’t adjust your lifestyle to fit baby. (Unless there are health concerns) if you travel take baby with you. But don’t force your personality on baby. Just have them use to your lifestyle.
Love the suspenders and bow tie! So adorable! Always have an extra outfit with you in case of diaper blow out or throw up!!!

Try to get as much stuff from other people ☺️ The baby grows so fast and so it won’t clutter your home, you can just bring it back to whoever you borrowed it from 😊 I bet with such a large Bates Fam there’s probably a ton of baby stuff.
I’m Dutch and so my musthaves are probably a bit different than someone from The States. But I loved to have a Dock a Tot. I just could put the baby everywhere. On the bed, on the table. I loved it. And yes our cat loved it too but I tried to keep it away from him.
Also get a baby Björn baby bouncer. It’s the best! We used it a lot here. As a bottle I used the one from Dr Brown. Which is great.
Things I never used: a diaper bag. I bought a tote from Studio Noos (Dutch brand) and I used it a lot. Never used my diaper bag….🫣
I barely used a baby bath tub. I just took our kids with us under the shower.
Get a baby bed that you can take easily with you. As for a stroller. I’ve got the Bugaboo Fox. I love it. But I also like Uppababy. It can even hold multiple kids.
The gowns are great at night because they make changing the diaper a breeze. Don't forget to tuck his bits downward to avoid him peeing out the top of the diaper.
