Silver Leaf Infection on Victoria Plum Tree

  • I noticed recently that my neighbours plum tree looks to have "Silver Leaf" infection (a fungal infection that will eventually kill the tree) - the leaves have a silvery appearance and if you cut across a branch it will have dark staining in the internal wood structure - on dead branches fungal bodies will appear.
the advice I've given is to cut out the affected branches ASAP and burn them before it has chance to infect their (and other plot holders) other trees.

That's one disease my plums haven't had, though we have been blessed with others like plum moth, whitefly (at the moment) and canker but luckily we watch you so we know what to look out for. Cheers for the info Woody!

I just planted a new Morello victoria plum tree and have noticed a few dark brittle leaves to one side, what could this be and what should I do? Advice really appreciated

      Hi
Do you mean a Victoria plum that's been grafted with morello cherry too? A bit like a 'family apple' tree?
      Where are you based please?

Many thanks for your swift response.
I got the names of my new trees mixed up, Doh!!!
The plum tree is a prunes domestica, approx 5.5 ft tall.
About 15% of the leaves have crisp brown curled " decay" on them. Just bought the tree on Monday, delivered from the wholesalers to the garden centre at the weekend.

Ah okay; my Victoria plum is now dropping leaves like crazy as it shuts down for winter. There have been some issues with leaf scorching this year which 'crisps' leaves. I would think all is okay but maybe take some pics as it is now in case you need to make a claim next spring ( hopefully that won't be the case though)

@@cumbrianhomestead Many thanks, I wasn't sure if there was something I should be doing.
I will let the garden centre know in case there maybe a fungus.
      Appreciate your response.
