To start off the year, I decided to do a logo history on a classic television company, Four Star, which will be nostalgic to some who have been part of the logo community since the early/mid-2010s. Wishing you all the best for 2023!
Four Star Television was an American television production company. Founded in 1952 as Four Star Productions by prominent Hollywood actors Dick Powell, David Niven, Charles Boyer, and Joel McCrea, who later left and was replaced by Ida Lupino as the fourth star-although Lupino did not own stock in the company. Powell became President of Four Star within a few years of its formation and, in 1955, Four Star Films, Inc. was formed as an affiliate.
In late 1958, Four Star Productions and Four Star Films were merged into a new holding company called Four Star Television. After Powell's death in 1963, Four Star was led by Thomas McDermott, followed by Aaron Spelling. It was then purchased by David Charnay, and subsequently was sold to Ron Perelman, who sold it to 20th Century Fox Television in 1996. In 1997, Four Star went defunct after a purchase to New World Television.
My next logo history will be on Worldvision, then Walt Disney Television.

I read where the Four Star logo (the first one) wasn't used until 1959.

That said, there's a very rare variant found on a handful of 1959 episodes of "Wanted: Dead or Alive" in which the Four Star zooming logo appears over the last few seconds of the show's closing theme rather than a separate shot with its own fanfare.

Wait a second, in the description, Aaron Spelling was involved in Four Star?

    • @actionsub

Aaron got his start as a producer with Four Star, first as a staff writer and script supervisor for Zane Grey Theater, then moved into producing and creating shows for the studio until striking out on his own in 1966.

@@actionsub Ah, so this is what his early career use to be like before he became a household name in the television business (made stuff like "Beverly Hills, 90210", "Melrose Place", "7th Heaven", etc.).
