- Today Im back working on the BBF @EdelbrockTV Victor Jr 460 heads.
I decided to do this video a bit different showing how @DavidVizard and myself deshroud combustion chambers to get the Max flow... I'm doing all of this without a Flowbench.
Don't worry you will get to see them in action on Rowdy Blue a 1976 F100 that will be in the lane beside CASPER with MIXED UP BOSS in our race to the 5's in the 1/8th
Don't forget to buy Unity Merch for a chance to win a Quickfuel SQ-650 and a signed Holley book by David and myself if you buy the bundle you will get 2 chances in the drawing!! Good Luck this will run through Aug 31st 2023 and David and I will host a live chat to name the winner!

Would love to see this with before and after on a dyno.
Not this time but you will see the finished product!

I’ve read David’s books , watching and listening is better , thanks😊
I followed some procedures from David on my 289 heads. Some of my friends claim I ruined mt heads. I'm excited to put a hurting on them when the engine is done.
This is the best head porting video on RUclips. Thank you!
Like this voice over while your working. Awesome jib man.
Awesome video. It’s so cool of you and David to share the secrets ❤
Thank you for watching Baby Shark! You are the OG Unity gang..
Andy
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage yes sir I have been watching since the beginning, thanks for noticing, Andy!
Thank you so much.
I gained a lot of information. And knowledge.
Thanks for the kind words.. I'm glad you enjoyed it
Andy
Thank you Andy. Greatly appreciated I’m doing mine this winter thanks to you!!
Anytime! I'm glad you got something from it. It is definitely worth the time doing it!
Andy
Format is great, the voice worked well
Keep making videos like this. Thank you for your time. I watch all your and D.V videos. Im building a 408w to put in my grandpa's old truck he left me. Every part i buy i picture something the two of you have took time to show us.
Great vidja 🤙🏼
Nice, thank you!
Crazy stuff, but You and David truly know what to accomplish here in headporting. I'm somewhat nervous about the benefits of street and weekend racing porting because of the atomization of the fuel at lower RPM ranges, but I will give your suggestions a try. Thanks for the advice. Tell David to get well soon, and see you both again here on RUclips.
@Andy and cameraman Mr. Vizard: Very nice. Well done! Thank you.
- Could you play a little with the light so we can actually see better what you have done? Especialy the radiuses and the angle of the scavenging plateau. Thx. Thumbs up.
Thanks!
fantastic work . great video guys . thanks for all your efforts.
When it looks easy, its because your watching a master. nice job!
Best education on RUclips!!!
Thanks for sharing this info, especially the scavenging plateau!
Good morning.
Another great video. Thank you, David and Andy. Get well soon, David.
Thanks for watching and for the kind words! I will pass it along to DV
Andy
This is great stuff - thank you very much for sharing. Please keep doing the videos 👍🙂
hi andy great video , i bought that book years ago its worth every penny, still have it , thank you hi david hope all is good
Cool video Andy. Enjoyed it, porting is hard work mind and body
Thanks Tim! It really is... When I get home I plan on watching your Strip Dominator vid..
Andy
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage thanks Andy. What did you think?
Love this video series Andy! Thank you.
Thanks Clint! I'm glad you like it
Andy
Some extremely useful tips 👌
Another amazing video, thank you for sharing this amazing info Andy and DV
I'm glad you enjoyed it Todd! Thanks for watching
Andy
Nice work and great Tech Andy.
Thanks Andy and David for sharing the knowledge and skills.
Take care, Ed.
Thanks Ed! I appreciate the kind words hope all is well your way!
Andy
Great content and thanks for sharing y’all’s knowledge!
How did I miss this, Andy? Must have been snoozing.my boss 302 heads need lots of work. I only get about .400 lift before spring bind. 🥶
Another great Video. I have seen many y of your videos and almost all of DV's videos. As always it would have been nice to see the improvements with the flow numbers but you can't do it all, all the time. Keep up the good work
Beautiful video! This info is priceless
Thanks for the info.
That's some handy information right there!
I'm glad you liked it Jeff! Thanks for watching
Andy
Great video I'm glad other people brought up that you should show you working through the port as you go it helps 👍 to see someone doing it in the process hope you continue that through the other parts of this porting job
Thanks for the kind words... I thought it would be good to mix it up and try it to see how it would work out!
Andy
@UnityMotorSportsGarage I myself think it worked out great there's a lot of people that learn/understand by seeing someone else do it myself I've never been much of a person that reads books but if someone shows me how to do something/ if I can see them doing it I feel like I can repeat that process they did I think thats one reason people are afraid to try doing this there self I have quite a few of daivds books and it gets overwhelming trying to comprehend some of it vs these video plus the books being able to see it helps greatly 👍 yall keeps up the good work 👏
That book should be required reading when you speak about these porting techniques. Page 97-99 will help with the first video of area ruled chamber clearancing. See photo 9.4 page 97. You will see why the valve is lifted from about 1/8 then check bore clearance and go up about 1/8" at a time to develop the shape of the chamber wall. According to the book "36 degrees."page 97.
Andy I so appreciate your time on the big block ford stuff!!
Question on the combustion chamber
After the chamber mods do you go through and cc and match them or is this something that is not as important for the operation? If you do cc what window between cylinder would you try to be within?
Thanks Rick.
🔔😎🇺🇸
Andy, it never hurts to repeatedly point out that the partially open (or closed) valve is the greatest restriction, far more than port shape. 👍
Make the area around the valve flow better FIRST.
Great info ... really appreciate all you and David do
Thank you for watching! I appreciate the kind words
Andy
Could it be a benefit to not de-shroud the spark plug side of the exhaust valve since with a scavenge plateau the air seems to want to all come from the quench pad side? Might the exhaust gases be more likely to head out the exhaust port than right through the valve curtain to the other side of the chamber? Also, does a scavenge plateau seem to work better with or without a backcut on the exhaust valve?
Looking good.
Thanks for watching
Andy
Put your branding on one of the fender mates brother to lean over your car. That would look killer
That is a great idea, I will have to look into that!
Thanks for watching
Andy
Have you loaded a video of this Ford truck at the track? It’s been a year.... Great video content!
Rust in peace , its been 3 months awaiting the next video😂
Hey Andy great video as always glad your getting into the bbf stuff. You should do a video on picking a cam for the bbf using David’s cam program like you and David have done with the sbc and sbf
The more I work with the BBF the more I like it. I believe if you were to use the 132 variation it would be pretty close.
Andy
Ive bought and read the book. Nice to see videos showing it.
Will be interested to see what you recommend for pistons because with that material removal i assume youre going to have to do some math to get back to maximizing your power on pump gas.
Great instructions! Thank you for your video! I wonder how much of a difference does this chamber work do to the flow?
Andy I’m not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth but… any chance you and/or DV could put together good parts list for tools and supplies to get a rookie started? I have a few sets of heads I have ZERO money in and have ZERO fear in butchering them in the name of science 😂 and would love to learn how to get good at this.
When you do voice over videos they are far superior to doing them as you go. I know they're probably more work for you but they make a superior product for people that are watching
Have you and DV ever had a look at the AFR renegade series heads for the small block ford? If so, think there worth the extra coin over other heads?
Opening up around the valves and about the scavenging plateau I understand. What I do not understand is looking to the intake port and its swirl how the scavenging plateau is on the opposite of the (intake-) swirl. Now it seems that the swirl is turning around in an opposite direction so it can and will use the plateau to exit the combustion gasses.
Explain me that!
Piston is pushing the exhaust out.
That is some really good tips, ive been playing around with porting some heads and they seem to work pretty good so far, although i dont know what they flow but its not all about flow anyways as u already know. Is there anymore sbf heads coming up for sale and I need to win that carb 😁 I got my unity hat or well its still in the snail mail 🤣😂 but on the way . Ill prolly buy more to increase my chances👍
DV may have a few sets of SBF heads left I would have to look and see. Thanks for the kind words and for watching! Good Luck on the Carb drawing it's a nice unit
Andy
Andy it’s nothing to do video which is so amazing !but I would like know if your email would be available would like get some info on your progressive ignition ,thks.
What is the best position for the spark plug electrode so as not to impede flow? It seems like if you are biased toward one valve flow around the other valve is affected.
I pray in the name of Jesus that David has many years left ahead of him.
HI Andy do you think that the scavange plateau will be a good thing on a 351cleveland quench head?thanks to you and greetings to sir Visard from FRANCE.
Hi Andy, great video, very informative! Is it ok to grind the chamber out to the head gasket size, or stick to the bore size? Thanks!
Adrian
Stick to the bore size or a hair smaller. If you go out then the flow hits a step which is a big flow upsetter.
Right at the end u said somthin that I must now question. If u have threads from a spark plug protruding through, into the chamber, is that a no no for a nitrous motor or all motors? I have been working on a set of 390 FE heads & I noticed a couple of cylinders a thread or so is into the chambers. But this is far from a nitrous motor. It's just for my ol pickup but it does have a few things to help it come alive. But just a pump gas (91) street engine.
It's a no no for all but especially Nitrous combos. The threads will get hot and turn the sparkplug into a glow plug
@UnityMotorSportsGarage that's what I've been wondering. I have found small brass washers or shims for small spark plugs but I have never seen any for the big plugs like what a old FE head has?
Man I hope DV is ok.
Are those stock castings?
So how much would you charge to hog out a set of GT40X heads? 😃
They stopped doing it due to time. David said on a video his old price was $4,000 a set.
