When you buy something from a shop, your contract is with the shop, not the manufacturer. Go back to the shop and, by law (in the UK), they have to either replace it or repair it. In the short time you mentioned, you could probably get your money back.
Hi Harlan, the padded laptop pocket can fit laptops that are approximately 38cm x 26cm so a 15,6 inch will be a tight fit. If you want more space the Sync 30L can fit a 17 inch laptop (goo.gl/gz2tES).

I've had mine for 3 years and it's still good as new. You just of had a bad batch.
This looks like a city rucksack. No hiking pole loops, waist strap, waterproof cover - unless I missed them.
