I want to share my opinion after trying this on my own. For your information, I'm a complete beginner at this. I never tried macrame before and this Koi Fish is my first macrame ever. So, right on, I really appreciate the zoom on your hand. It really helps me to identify how to make the knots. At first, I thought there were no special trick at roping and knotting it. But I can clearly see the difference after some inspection. I find it really difficult to see how to make knots in tutorial videos by any other artist. Sure, they would say/write, "do a blablabla knot 10 times" but as a complete beginner, I don't even know what that means and they aren't zooming enough at the craft, making me unable to see how to actually make that knot. Your tutorial video really helps me at this. Most of the time, I need to slow it down to see how you make a knot. I think it would help me better if you wrote this rope goes here, this rope goes under, and do the knot; but the video as it is are already really great, so it's not really a must. The last thing I would love to have is a link to any (online) shop you might recommend for getting the supply and the name of the product. I bought a waxed cord from some online shop, but it doesn't look anything like the rope that you have. It doesn't have glistens or shimmer to it. I think it might be a different kind of cord that I got on my hand. At the end, the craft turned out good. It's a bit messy, but it's definitely a Koi Fish keychain :) I'm really happy on how this turnings out and I'll also try other tutorials that you have. Thank you! All in all, this tutorial is wonderful!
To start, try a small paracord. It will grip itself so you don't have things slip. Once you've got the hang of it, switch to Silk cord. You can find it at most fabric stores. It's smooth, shiny, and comes in a bunch of colors. :)
did my first macrame ever following this tutorial! i was going to respond to my previous comment on here, but decided to just write a new one. i didn't have any waxed cord, nor do i have extra money to spend on any right now, but i do have lots of cotton string, and it worked like a charm! i was worried about the string coming unraveled (since it's not wax cording, i couldn't use a lighter on the ends as in the vid) so i used a little super glue at all the places where the lighter would've been used with the proper cord. as a complete beginner i just wanted to say that your camera angles are great! someone else had mentioned here that they didn't think there was a difference with the knots; i had that same thought. by the end of the tutorial, i really felt like i'd learned not just how to make the fish, but how to see the difference of the different knots. it took me quite a while to figure out how to pull the strings right, but this video really helped be understand what i was doing! had to pull a lot of knots out to redo to get it right, but my finished fish looks great :) i plan on making either the golden fish or bat from your tutorials next! these are super fun to do :D
You can often find cheap embroidery floss and then wax it yourself by threading it through a block of beeswax. This cuts the costs substantially. If it's a lack of time the problem, I usually make my small macrame projects on the bus during my commute.
Thank you for putting up this tutorial. I have already make two of them. One with the wavy tale and one with the long one. The tutorial is really understandable, it is perfect for beginners also. (as I am) :)
I am so happy this came up as a suggestion, the way you show it I can follow and just pause to keep up. Thank you so much. You have a new subscriber, and look forward to many more creatures.

Hello Kean, I recommend you to first practice from the basic, because we start to understand the work and our hands get trained to this kind of hard stuff. At the begining I couldn't understand nothing hahaha
@@MACRAMETITA It's really hard to follow your steps while doing it myself :/ Can you make a few tutorials with sound so you can explain what you do? :) This looks really really cute btw :)
Ive never tried macrame before but wanted to try it as soon as I saw this video. Today I finally got my cord and have made one. I’m really impressed with myself and the tutorial is really good. The only issue is that my cord won’t ‘melt’ it just burns and sets on fire. I don’t know what to do because I have lots of loose ends. Even if the flame does touch the cord it still burns
This feels like watching Bobbin Lace. Thank you for posting. I know what I want to give my Mom now :) Have been searching of handcrafts that I can make to give her
Hi. Firstly thank you for your tutorial! However, I bought 0.5mm waxed cord and the fish looked wayyyy too smaller than what you made... Would you say they are 0.5mm or more?

I've made a similar koi fish before, but I never as able to make such beautiful tails and find for it. I was hoping you could show the underside of the fish after it was finished, because it was hard to see which piece of string to use to begin to make the tail, or if it was any order. Otherwise, this is an amazing video!
