    Sarah, I appreciate that your demonstrations are less flashy than other RUclipsrs, focused on substance over style - this is a lot more helpful and thorough than many others I've seen on this synth so far! I own the DFAM and Subharmonicon, but been on the fence about selling the SH since for me it's interesting but less versatile. Definitely feeling like this might give me a lot more uses and be an amazing partner to the DFAM!

      I've seen the sun rise on several occasions after fiddling with the DFAM all night. I fear putting this alongside would mean I'd never see my bed again !
      Does anyone know if the sequencers and buffer are persistent ? If I turn the unit off (to get an hour or two of sleep) will it still be in the same state when I turn it back on again ?

    Sarah is a trusted source. My first impression of this is that I’m elated to see zero menu diving like my Mother 32. I have to keep the manual for it handy because I can’t ever recall that first you hold reset then this button and that one while holding step 8. And that’s just how u get to the menu of the mother 32. Twister for ur brain and fingers. 😂

  • @bobphillips2341
    @bobphillips2341 Месяц назад

    Well, I sometimes mix other sequencers ; and parallel crossings. WMD Metron in the context of voltera; or tiptop/buchla. Your clean examples lend themselves for general extension. Love it. Somewhere there should be a list of (semi) equivalent options ;)

  • @KorhanErel

    Wonderful presentation, as usual!
    I wish Moog would do their version of the Buchla keyboard, now that they've gone West. A wider 0-CTRL-like thing in this desktop format would be very nice, I think. Maybe even with a couple of faders that send out CV.

    Great video! Looks like a fun take. Other thoughts - in some sense I feel like very little that is new happens in our industry. This innovates (and looks like tons of fun) by adding 70s tech to even older tech. When does the next big new happen happen in synthesis?

    It was not to long ago that they released the vetravox. When I seen leaks of the Labyrinth, I immediately bought a subharmonicon because in order to complete my collection, I would first have to own mother 32, dfam, and sub harmonicon. Now that I own all three, I can go after the vetravox and the labyrinth. I wonder what is next? Now I do not have an excuse to not want to pick up a mavis because the labyrinth comes with a wave folder. I wish moog would build more of there 3 tier stands. seems like they used them all up trying to sell the 3 piece set years ago. I am totally enthralled with the sub harmonica right now.

  • @KorhanErel
    @KorhanErel Месяц назад

    With no intention of taking the limelight off Sarah's presentation, which was one of the main reasons for me being interested in this, I returned it eventually. The foremost reason is that the sequencer is too random. It's fun at first, but gets boring pretty quickly. I'm not a control freak, but I also find the overuse of randomness in the world of modular synthesis irritating. The other three reasons: I didn't like the wavefolder's sound (and I like wavefolders very much). I didn't like the decay-only envelopes and the fact that they have tiny knobs. I didn't find the filter particularly interesting (but liked the fact that it doesn't self-resonate).
    I liked the switch that reroutes the signal. I liked the patchbay. I liked the VC crossfader between filter and wavefolder.
    If I had a large studio space and more money, I'd keep it (and buy the other Moogs, too). But I have neither. :)
    If Moog made a desktop unit with two Matriarch oscillators, stereo filter and the stereo BBD delay, I'd buy that synth immediately.

    I'm not sure how to say the name, I'll link his intro and how Exactly to Pronounce
    Robert Arthur Moog (/moʊɡ/ MOHG; May 23, 1934 - August 21, 2005) was an American engineer and electronic music pioneer. He was the founder of the synthesizer manufacturer Moog Music and the inventor of the first commercial synthesizer, the Moog synthesizer, which debuted in 1964. In 1970, Moog released a more portable model, the Minimoog, described as the most famous and influential synthesizer in history. Among Moog's honors are a Technical Grammy Award, received in 2002, and an induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. This is shared from Wikipedia, not my creation.. just want credit where it is Due.
    I have heard his name Pronounced about 4 different ways. I'll look up the "Guy" . Soon

    Nice and clean walk-through, creds! But I think what you called polyrythm actually is polymetric rythm. If you can figure out how to get the labyrinth to behave polyrythmically, I would be thankful. The manual does not mention polyrythm, only polymeter.

    • @oyvindroth
      @oyvindroth Месяц назад

      As to polyrythm vs. polymeter: Without having used the Labyrinth, the following struck me. @sarahbellereid, please correct me if I have misunderstood something. Variations over 2-on-3 are of course possible. E.g. make the sequences length 6 and let one sequence sound on 1, 3, 5 and the other on 1, 4 by fixing the bit flips (CORRUPT below 12 o'clock). But: As long as there is no possibility of putting accent to any of the beats, there is practically no audible difference between polymeter and (hacked) polyrythm on Labyrinth. Maybe, however, organizing the bits as mentioned could ease the way of seeing the rythm of your composition. However, by fixing a (the first) step on a wanted voltage (CORRUPT fully counterclockwise), the feeling of accent may be simulated, I guess.
