Happy Father’s Day!!!!!
Happy Father's Day 😊
Happy Shadow-Daddy Day, even 👀👀😂
happy father’s day!! ᰔᩚ
Happy fathers day !!! :33
His face when you said "the daddy in your life" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was at the library looking for a book and picked up shadow in the ember THINKJNG it was Carlos’s favorite book. I suffered through hundreds of pages thinking SURELY it must get better if Carlos liked it. Yeah… ember in the ashes is a totally different book and i suffered for no reason. now i can remedy my mistake LOL
NOOOOOOO OH MY GOD
POSITIVE CONTENT AND CARLOS? WE'RE WINNING!
Y’all just radiate that typa cool auntie and uncle energy who would:
- make sure you responsibly smoke, drink, and party and make sure to give you the good stuff on your first time
- come up with the best names for you when you want to socially change your name but don't know what name you want
- embarrass the frick out of you in complete deadpan in front of your crush/date
- be the reason you have a diverse resume in consuming all sorts of media
- Make you hope you one day have a relationship like theirs (should you want a partner, of course) 😊
Happy Father’s Day, Mister Carlos Reads-with-Rachel! 🤣
Okay, back to the video! 💃🏾
I fucking love this series thanks to you Rachel!! You and Carlos have EXCELLENT taste! Can’t wait to read these AGAIN for the readathon! This series ripped my heart from my chest, threw it on the ground, stomped on it, picked it up, dusted it off, put a band aid on it, gave it a little kiss, and then threw it back on the ground. And I loved EVERY SECOND OF IT!
It's a special kind of awesome when you two review a book together, and it's a book you both love?? Hang on, let me make my coffee so I can properly enjoy this.
I WAS NOT EXPECTING RICK GRIMES.
I don't know why that had to be in all caps, but it did.
The mommy issues this series help me to process 🤌 I don't know why more people don't love these books. Sabaa Tahir put her heart into these characters and it shows. Comparing it to so many authors who rush to get the next book out with zero continuity, it is just SO GOOD.
"I want a movie, I want a theme park..." Carlos wants to suffer in person 😂
🎭
While I can’t deny that I really like the negative reviews, I also enjoy the positive ones. I love hearing about what books people like, what sort of writing and literary techniques/devices they appreciate and overall the kind of writing that people respond to positively Vs negatively. It helps me with my own writing and it’s really interesting. But I guess for the most part, people just want to bask in scornful pleasure.
mister rachel!!!!!! love him
Jumpscare, I thought it was a gold chain. Don't do that to me, Carlos.
Not the gold chain!
At first I didn't get your comment about gold chains, but now I've looked for the pattern it is real!! 😂
@@RosseRue it’s real!!!!
@@weirdobookclub I will carry this wisdom with me always 🫡
I love how your cat is just indignantly demands pets while your filming 😂😂 and then the purrs!!! ❤
Yes, however, she only does that when he is filming and I cannot believe that she ended up being such a daddy’s girl
this series is actuallt why my bf and i started dating. i used returning the 2nd book to him at work (we worked together but i wasnt on shift that night) as an excuse to ask him out lol. we never got to the last book in the series though 😔
Man idk why people never try to watch your positive reviews, these r honestly great for a cozy day imo
Carlos, the ring and chain go so well with the Han Solo t-shirt. Did you plan that?
Not at all he’s just that cool without planning 😩
@@ReadswithRachel he's like Han Solo in real life (which makes you Leia, Rachel)
@@MarcelleLeiturasPreguicosasShe's his badass princess who kicked stormtrooper butt.
What’s funny about them saying do you like books? Too is that you have a full shelf of books behind in most videos which would denote you like books so 😅 and one of the highest form of compliment comes from criticism, shows you care about literature more than not
NOT STUFF AND THANGS
ITS ONE OF MY FAVORITES I HAD TOOOOO
More reviews with Carlos! I command it! 😤
He shall return!
This sounds like a damn book I will love. There are actual high stake moments. Twists and turns, emotional turmoil, characters with DEPTH ahhhhh this is the inspiration I need. Thank yoooouuuuuu
I read an ember in the ashes many years ago and didn't continue on with the series for whatever reason and this is making me want to revisit it 😭
1. Y’all sold me. 2. The way you two listen to and look at each other when the other speaks…that’s what I want!
Will you two continue this? I’ll need to hear your guys’ thoughts on my boy Musa 😂❤
I just read this last month, I'm not a big YA reader but I actually cried 😢 I can't wait to finish the series
Ahh this vid makes me reallyyy want to re-read this series. It really is such a YA staple that holds up like so few others from that time period do. I would also kill for a tv adaptation ugh I can’t wait for Heir to come out later this year!
your combined excitement for this series has made me purchase all 4 books and now I'm super excited to read it
YEESSSS Rose Gold bands for the win!!! When my husband said he wanted a solid Rose Gold band to match my ring I fell in love all over again!!
This book is at my thrift store for a dollar. I hope it's still there lol
For what it's worth, your review on Immortal Longings made me want to pick up the book so badly. Lately I've been scared to get new books.
I hope you like it!!
Carlos being a king in the first 5 mins ☺️ i expect nothing less
I hope the algorithm is kinder to this, seeing y'all gush over your love of a book together is adorable. Sure, the roasting reviews are fun as hell but this level of love and excitement and fan-love is so great
I started reading the series right before this video came out and now ive binged the first three books, almost sobbing at work during the third one, and now i have to wait 16 WEEKS for the fourth book on Libby.
I want my heart to be destroyed RIGHT NOW 😭
I love your positive reviews, Rachel. It’s such a shame they don’t get as promoted by the algorithm, both because they are excellent reviews and because they’re excellent recommendations for great reads and a way to find new favourites.
(The negative ones are fun too (and also very valuable).)
This video quite literally made my entire year lol thank you Rachel!!! This series got me back into reading after not picking up a book for YEARS and I’m so happy yall feel the same way!! I’m super excited for her new book and I can’t lie, yall might be on to something with that theme park idea 😂❤
4:08 that’s so SAD 😞
Facts!! I loved that video. It was adorable
This series is the reason why I’m always reluctant to pick up fantasy series bc it broke me at the end and left me feeling empty especially when and this is ⚠️spolier⚠️
Helen’s love interest gets killed at the end 😭 he deserved so much better and Helen deserved the world
Happy Father’s Day, Carlos!!!!! ❤Thank you for all the laughs and insight, you da best
🥹🥹🥹❤️
I actually noped out of this series after the first book because I wasn't in a headspace where I could read about a character like Helene being tied to a boss she hates, but that was mostly a timing thing since I was stuck in a job I hated with a boss I hated, and I did not want to encounter that in my fantasy escapism. It did seem interesting and well-written.
Okay one little thing that bothered me about Elias was the whole thing of being free. What that looked like for him. I saw it for a while him being the emperor and changing the empire making everyone free and stopping the violence. But I liked how it played out in the end.
Literally went to the library yesterday to order all 4 books. Read the first three a little while ago and have to finish.
Carlos: I NEED THIS TO BE A MOVIE!!
The internet: Now that you mention it....
It's still in the early production stages, but supposedly Paramount bought the rights to it with Mark Johnson signing on to be a producer. Fingers crossed it keeps moving forward!
But I hope ya'll get a chance to do a video about the prequal trilogy graphic novel series coming out soon!
Okay, both your enthusiasm wins and I'm adding this to my TBR. It's okay that this spoiled it for me because I'll likely forget things by the time I get to read this. It all works out haha. Even so, y'all's excitement has me considering just buying the first book without reading it (to start), and that's something I rarely do. I prefer to read things from a library before deciding to buy a book, but... you've just made it sound like a book and a series that won't disappoint. =)
The thumbnail 🤣🤣🤣 Happy Father's Day, Carlos. Can't wait to get into this & see exactly what life choices you're questioning with that look.
Just a heads up, some of the last events you talked about are from the beginning of A Torch Against the Night. (I only remember because I finished that one today lol)
Not sure how much difference that makes, but just noting. Wonderful video either way!! ❤️
Finished the video and immediately bought the e-book, I'm so excited to read it
Hope you enjoy it!
I tend to not like villains that 'know everything'. It usually feels a little cheap. I'll take your word for it that it's written better and check out the first book.
i checked out the first three books in this series before going into lockdown in march 2020, and it's one of the major things that got me through that time. aside from it being a fantastic series, that's also part of the reason why it's one of my favorite series of all time. glad you guys are giving it the love it deserves
Happy Father's day, Carlos!!
The way I have been hoping for videos on this series SO much. I borrowed the books from my library, finished the 4th one, and IMMEDIATELY bought hardcovers. I am now getting an "Emifal Firdaant" tattoo in 3 weeks. This is so so so so exciting to me, I *love* these books and they really did feel like something you might like, I'm so glad I was right. So excited to hear your thoughts 💕💕💕
I’ve been on the fence about this series, I think I might read it.
Like, I have the first three on my shelf, I just needed a reason and here it is, on June 17th. The SIGNS.
Coming back over a week later to mention that we have missed the opportunity to call Keris the ✨Mommandant✨
This was fr one of those books I devoured IN A DAY
i’ve had a physical copy of the book for years and i finally read the book so i could watch this video without spoiling it for myself 😹 safe to say it’s one of my new favorites!
That's awesome!
Genuinely I have never been recommended a positive review of yours
The algorithm truly sucks
I don’t know how I missed this upload! I read the first book and only really thought Helene was worth continuing for, so put off the sequels. Y’all are making me think I should go get the sequels NOW.
Love these Rachel + Carlos review videos ❤ happy father's day to those that celebrate!!
Thanks to the algorithm I finally see other readers who gush over An Ember in the Ashes series as much as I do. I’m here 2 days late but thankfully I got to see this. 🙏😀☺️🤗 Really enjoyed your review😊
I found a perfect hardback copy of this at a used book store and had to pick it up because you guys like it.
AHH I'm reading this series now! Im on the third book. This is so exciting! This book got me out of a massive slump.
At the end when everything went crazy I kept yelling go to Spiro damnit lol honestly throughout the whole book. I trusted him instantly
I’m sold this book series sounds awesome. Also, happy Father’s Day to Carlos.
Happy belated Father's Day, Carlos! Seeing you talk to Monster at the end was so adorable, ahhhh! Also, I have to finish the Daveabad Trilogy first, BUT this series is going on my list for what I'm reading next, the way y'all talk about it has me itching to get my hands on them!
Always a joy to see Carlos on the channel LOL!
In light of the opening conversation, I'm glad I clicked on this because it sounds like I need to add a few books to my tbr!
Just finished watching this video, you guys got me wanting these books so badly I had to text my husband to see if we have the spare money 😅 I added them to my tbr list! Can't wait to get lost in a new story! I miss feeling passionate about a book series, so I've got high hopes!
I have not read this, I absolutely will, but I'll watch your videos first, it helps my anxiety when you do such detailed recalls on good books. Thank you
this was my first video featuring Carlos since i’ve subscribed and i am living for couples reading together ❤
Came back after reading ( I did grab it for a dollar at my thrift store)
1) screw all the crappy reviews on Goodreads... I don't know why I still bother.
2) the story telling and character growth is amazing. I have had almost a two year slump. I went from reading 10 plus books a month in 2020 to barely finishing anything.
3) the plot everything the flow action. It's Soo good .
4) I am on book two and a part I read yesterday gave me chills. I was like omg omg
I was saying that I need a tv show or movie adaptation of this series at the same time Carlos did.
fucking love this series, criminally underrated still along with the Witchlands series.
LOVE WITCHLANDS YESSSSS
I LOVE WATCHING TWO PEOPLE RIP APARR BOOKS AND RIFF OFF EACH OTHER THIS DYNAMIC IS SO FUN
Ember in the Ashes was my way into YA Fantasy after years of reading lots of middle grade. Remember I stole this book from my sister 😭 she ended up just giving it to me cause I loved it so much!!
I’m so not a fantasy girl but this is one of my top fantasies of all time and I’ve read the first one multiple times
It’s definitely time for a full series reread
You guys have hyped this series up so much I'm actually scared to start, the first book has been sitting on my audiobook shelf for a while now but I just can't start it. Help 😭
I love the first book in the series because everything from the beginning comes full circle in the end. It’s truly a masterpiece of a story. The other books felt more like linear storytelling but this one!!! It’s a circle! And I love when books do that
I actually picked this book up because you two had mentioned it in a previous video and finally got to it in my tbr and finished it last week! I feel like I'm right on time! So excited to hear you two talk about it.
Finally!!!!!!!!!! I’ve heard you mention this book in other videos but now I finally get to see you both talk about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I read this series because of y'all and my fiance is reading it now too. Looooooove this series!
One of my favorite things you do in the negative reviews, is pointing out books that you've read that were more successful in accomplishing what the currently being reviewed book was going for. I love a good book rec. Seems a LOT of writers tend to have great ideas, but fumble the execution. Your reviews, with thorough break downs with examples and quotes, really help in not wasting money or time on an enticing premise that couldn't get off the ground.
I love love love this series and recommend it to everyone I can! I remember waiting for Barnes and Noble to open so I could be the first person to buy the second book the day it came out.
Honestly this book already sounds so good 12 minutes in that I don't know if I want to finish this video! I wanna read the book and come back later! Lol Thanks, guys!!
Its so fun when mom and dad love a book
I love your positive reviews too! I actually looked into Southern Bookclub's Guide to Slaying Vampires after watching your video. And I loved it! It's also so good to see you both enjoying something so passionately.
happy belated father's day, carlos! i'm gonna have this running in the back because i still have to read this but i love your passion for it 💖
Pls inspire me to continue the series because I rage quit book 2 when she coulda killed the commandant and didn’t. Because morals or something. Which whatshisface also did with the “emperor” at the end of book one. Not killing the bad guy because reasons is my least favorite trope and seeing it twice back to back sent me into a rage spiral 😅
Fair enough!
I've had Sabaa Tahir on my TBR because of you for a while but watching Carlos gush over this has made me have to move this up to next in line.
Watched this Vid when it came out and I've just finished the audio book. SSS Tier recommendation.
Thanks to you I finally read this series. I read it all in one week ❤
Apparently people enjoy watching you suffer. Because you enjoy these, it's less likely you enter funny edits in the videos too. Not gonna lie, they really are enjoyable.
I do love watching you talk about books you love, even when they break your heart talking about them.
Always good to see Carlos, btw.
5:26 Wtf????? Ima go watch the all my rage review after this because that book is amazing!!!!! FOR THE ALGORITHM!!
Well. Looks like I'm buying all those books now.
I cannot watch this, and I am really mad because I love seeing you and Carlos commenting on things and bantering together!!!!!!! BUT because you influenced me to BUY this book, I shall read it first and then watch it later.
I read this first book yeeeeeears ago but thanks for the reminder to pick it up again to refresh my understanding of it now that there are 4 more books in the series I should get to.
I am so bad at continuing series, especially if all of them aren't out when I read the first one.
This videp was an absolute delight, including the almost chameos from the cats and the kid!
This video makes me want to reread the series again even though I JUST reread it a couple of months ago 😅
I did start this in audiobook awhile back but the way you present things has made me pretty hyped!
This makes me want to go back and finish the series. I read books 1 and 2 and 2 was a slog to get through. But I have always been curious about how the series ends
My partner and I call Sanderson, "Sanderman" just between us. I don't know why. Our cheeky way of being fans I guess.
I liked Ember in the Ashes well enough, but I didn't LOVE IT. I think its the revolution story line, not something I'm crazy drawn to. But I remember it was well written and a well done plot.
Thank you!!! I didn't know anything about this series. 👺
I had this on my mental tbr but I'm wanting to read it so badly now ❤ when Carlos said "I want a theme park" I laughed so hard😂😂😂
I started this series because of you! It’s so good and I’m starting book 3 now!
One of my favorite series of all time! You guys made me want to reread it again 🥰
