    One of the very earliest EP's. Absolute dynamite, kept playing it over and over staring at the cover.......great days.

    In 76 we were cruising on a diet of YES ELP Deep Purple Jethro Tull Procol Harum Tangerine Dream Pink Floyd Queen Eagles Greatful Dead and then this hit us in the face and we woke up again to R & R and Ramones and Punk Pistols..... Never to be forgotten, yeah hup!

      Qué razón tienes. Viva el Pabellón de la Casilla de Bilbao - Palacio de los Deportes; en donde vi a Hot Rods, Stranglers y Bishops. Aúpa el "ruak". Viva Bilbao.

    I was a student in 1976 and during the summer was broke and wondering around soho. Walked past the Marquee and saw an ad for bar staff. Started that night when AC/DC were on-playing for £25. Ended up working 6 nights/week on the bar opposite the stage and was there when this was recorded. Earlier that day during a sound check break, the photos were taken outside and that's me oblivious-stepping out the door in the photo top left. They always sounded great and were a breath of fresh air that summer before punk broke and we still had prog rock. Great memories. Now run a label-MLP specialising in live recordings. Amazing how things turn out. Mike Dixon

      Great story indeed! I never saw them live (was 14 in far-off Lincs when this came out) but I played the ep endlessly, and indeed my first proto-band used to cover their covers of 96 Tears & Gloria/Satisfaction

    This was the start of my Punk period...Then I bought the first Ramones, then the whole shebang: Ramones, Stranglers, Clash, Damned, Pistols, Buzzcocks, Adverts, GenX, and a whole lot more.
    What a great period of time!

    Looking back this record was as important for punk as Anarchy and Blitzkrieg Bop. Unbeatable.

    I was fifteen when I saw these boys live at Hastings Pier Pavilion in the summer of '75. They were unknown to me (and most people) at that time. I went on spec as a relief from a stultifying family holiday. I had not seen or heard such energy before and wouldn't again until the Ramones had landed. This EP was on heavy rotation on the Art School jukebox in '76 - '77 and was as much a part of my life's soundtrack as any of the early punk 45s. As an accompaniment to a nose full of sulphate and a can of Colt 45 Malt Liquor the The Hotrods were the very thing. Ah happy days.

    I was in my bedroom in '76 - I had the radio ready at 10pm for Nicky Horne's show on Capital Radio. I was bored with a lot of music at the time and then he put this on - It was the unforgettable opening chords of "Gloria" that grabbed my immediate attention. I thought "this is more like it ROCK IS BACK !!" I saw them at the Marquee in '77 - Barry came strutting out and said "It's great to be back here ain't it !"

    This ep and the 'TD' lp are in my opinion the highest point the band ever reached. I think they never achieved that accurate sound anymore. Then joined Graeme Douglas, great guitarist, and that was another band. Great songs came along, some of them impressive, but another band. Too much lead guitar in too many occasions for my taste. I never saw them live -I was five when this was recorded- but if I compare 'Live At The Marquee' with 'The sound of speed ep', the latter is clearly inferior. A matter of taste, I guess.

    One question has always concerned me about this EP, at the beginning of Gloria, Barry Masters says to get all the chairs out of the place.......what chairs? I went to the Marquee around this time and NEVER saw a chair in the place.

    • @adders45
      @adders45 7 лет назад +1

      there were chairs before this particular gig for all the old boring lazy hippies after this no more
