Happy Friday folks! Not sure why RUclips hasn’t finalized the 4K rendering yet… but hopefully here soon! Thanks for watching and enjoy the long weekend!
Boy, those export jobs have virtually zero ‘short hood’, so a head-on collision would be disastrous for the crew! Speaking of hoods…both the NS export locomotive and one in the Selma yard were long-hood forward. Not exactly an engineman’s dream. I don’t know how you did it sir, but my compliments on catching that train in so many locations. Wow! A ‘cargo’ like those unusual locomotives deserves and got multiple great catches! Thank you very much!
Looks like those engines in the beginning of the video on 098 were Saudi Arabian SD70ACes, just from looking at the boxes on the long hood and intake, stellar catch!
Actually, they're for the UAE (the OP said they were built for Ethiad Rail, which is owned by the UAE's government). The others were apparently built for Bangladesh.

What an awesome and well done video, those locos are really cool looking, never seen anything like this on any channel! Great catch on those locos and yeah that paint scheme def pops! Truly enjoyed -Ken
Nice catch of these Setrag units. The Trans-Gabon railway already uses EMD SD40-2s, class 66s, and some orange GT46ACes. They also use some old American GE units, new American-built gensets, new Chinese diesels, and some old German diesels for power.
They're standard guage locos, so not possibly for Africa... Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, etc are building SG lines but infrastructure, locos and rolling stock all Chinese.
The South African locomotives in the video will they be getting a truck change when they get to South Africa from our international gauge to the cape gauge or are the South African now constructing a standard gauge network outside of their bullet train network around Johannesburg?
It looks like those export units are possibly bound for Australia, because of the cab design and extended front cab roof. They might work in the Pilbara Region, hauling Iron Ore.
They wouldn’t be Aussie locos as most of our locos being imported are EMD GT46 ACe’s in various models. The Pilbara use the same locos as used by American railroads but with bigger radiators and slightly different cab designs.
Not for Australia, they're for Setrag iirc in Gabon, Africa. These units are hilariously small compared to what is used in the Pilbara and the only EMDs we get are GT46C-ACe, not GT46AC
Not at all! Conrail is easily my favorite fallen flag… I was merely referring to the current state of Class I paint schemes. Not much compared to CR Blue, Warbonnet, SP Scarlett and Gray, etc..
South Africa will probably keep their 3ft 6in gauge Do you really think they will regauge all of their 3ft 6in gauge? Did you really thought they have the money to regauge literally almost all of steam locomotives that still operate?, you have to completely make a new frame for the locomotive which is cost money
That’s awesome man! Actually stay tuned… I’ve got a video compilation coming soon from my time in Raleigh this past spring! I’ll have listed all my favorite locations to visit, should be out within a week-ish or so!
AC units costs more because of the complex wiring and transistor systems. AC locomotives give better traction and adhesion, especially going uphill, and ac traction motors don't overheat as quickly as DC drive units. DC units are easier to repair.
They’re definitely much lower than our locomotives here. My buddy works up at the port and said it was pretty difficult walking down the sides of these locomotives
@@rail.tennessee these new gt46,is the new design by emd for export units, also chile and brazil have units like these ,and the lowered bodies is to export overseas little gauge measrements
Those engines must be for a new railroad,as the standard Guage in South Africa is 3'-6",not 4'-81/2"! Since when was the line built/put into service? And clearances in SA,are built to narrow Guage standards! Thank you! 😇!
Chances are those locomotives will be shipped in a Ro-Ro ship to South Africa and then transfered to another local short-sea service to their final destination in Gabon.
@@CMDModels1 I have a close friend who loaded these exact locomotives onto the ship in Morehead City.. that what the manifold said as he handled them. That’s as much information as I was privy to knowing, and same for him.
Having lived for a while in RSA I was also thinking it was strange the locomotives were being hauled on standard gauge, 4’ 8.5” track when South Africa’s track gauge is 3’ 6”. Another thing I find strange is the fact that the export locomotives are being hauled at all. When EMD were building the class 66 for the UK they were all put on freight cars-And the US uses the same track gauge as we do. Although the US loading gauge is very much bigger!
My comment very interesting piece. However as far as I see GE & EMD are not in the market for the sale and development of electric locomotives as more rail systems are moving all electric power. This move being part of the debate of climate change . Would be interested how rail fans see where the future of rail power will go in the US over the next 20 years.
Have you selected “advanced settings” in RUclips to change the playback quality to 2160? All of my recent videos are filmed at 4K60P… should be your settings that need adjusted. Thanks
Cheap shot regarding "bland" locomotive paint schemes in the states. BNSF, UP and others, past and present, hardly stoop to the characterization of bland. How many of those heritage schemes do you consider bland?
I’m not referring to paint schemes of the past.. I’m referring to the current day lineup. CSX YN3, BNSF H3, UP armour yellow… etc, they’re all pretty boring compared to things of the past. Again, all of that to say, that’s just my opinion. Everyone’s welcome to their own, I just thought the blast of color on those foreign units was a turn for the better compared to what we see here today.
Happy Friday folks! Not sure why RUclips hasn’t finalized the 4K rendering yet… but hopefully here soon!

Not sure what it is with Americans and needing a massive nose but these units are just as safe in a collision as your big nose widecab units...
Amazing catches! Exports have to be my favorite type of catch!
They’re definitely sweet to see on the rails - Thanks!
NS running long hood forward. Always nice to see that now and then. :-)
The guys in the cab were complaining about it the whole time. Its an absolute pain to run like that.
For a wide cab without dual controls, probably.
Why? Engineer can't see at all Not so very safe that way. You think? Someone in the switching yard just got lazy. Cool train, though.
Bnsf isn't too bland, hard to not see. Those new emd's have a cab almost like an old Alco engine. And they look powerful.
The new locos make an epic capture !! Very nicely done !! James.

Nice Muncie. That's also where they built Bob Ross. I love the 7idea productions imitation lmao

Nice! I'm currently in Four Oaks NC under a bridge after spending the morning at the Selma Train Station. Keep on!!
Very nice 👍👍👍
The knowledgeable narration is a plus.
Bro, you didn’t tell me about this! I of course have never come close to seeing export units, so those two catches are awesome man!
Definitely unique to see on the rails, thanks my man!

What gauge track is the trans gibon line I'm pretty sure in South Africa there track is narrow gauge 3ft 6inches

awesome catch! liked and subbed!
The second clip where there were 4 engines on the flatbed was getting exported to bangladesh
Awesome Railfan Video 👍👍👍👍👍🚂
Super. 💙 T.E.N.
Really nice video. That poor NS loco needs a wash after all that hard work.
Man I like seeing hauling of locomotive on train car by locomotive
Great video!! The loco's being shipped to Africa explains the design,of no hood.

Definitely different looking
This must be an East Tennessee thing since Norfolk Southern and CSX are usually over in those areas.
THANK YOU FOR VIDEO

Those are for Saudi Arabia just Google EMDX 1002
They are not for SA, but Setrag Gabon
Nice video, but these yellow engines are not for South Africa, but Gabon as they have standard gauge
Is it me or are those new yellow locomotives really long ? They appear to be of more length.
You'd think NS would have washed their locomotive for this special trip?
nice !

Kansas City also had a nice livery in my opinion too.
Very cool and interesting
Are there a/c units on top of the export unit cabs?
It certainly looks to be the case
How long will these locomotive stay so klin in South Africa.
I just know that South Africa is using standard 1435 gauge rail, because from the source that I've got they still using 1067 gauge rail.

Those engines must have some low clearances to deal with in South Africa.

What does “GT” mean in EMD’s export models like those seen?
in export initials emd put the g as export model, and t for turbocharger

I wish I had those answers… sadly, all I know is that waybill for these locomotives was for SA.. what happens from there is anyone’s guess!
Setrag is a standard gauge system in Gabon. Which is thousands of miles away from South Africa. I doubt that order went via south Africa.
